Any predicted changes from the Cup Final team? I think Badolato comes back in for Dobson. I also hope Bayliss starts however with Grozos as captain does Milligan feel obliged to start him?
I gotta say, Rose needs a goal too. He'll start but Gibson is pushing him.

Dont think Bayliss has done enough to start. Grozos, Burgess and Badolato in the midfield for me

Badolato is a guaranteed return, but man it's a bummer to see Dobson hit the bench, been so impressed with him lately
I think you can definitely make the argument, on merit alone, that Gibson deserves this starting spot over Rose. He's been fantastic for us in the cup, some very obvious improvements, and with all of the momentum he has behind him atm (4 appearances and 3 goals in the cup, U23's callup) I think you need to reward that

I think Rose brings good energy and pressing, but I see Gibson as a much more clever player.
Potentially games where we are playing on the counter Rose may be more suitable, but of what we've seen in the cup with a lot of passing in and around the box, Gibson seems much more useful.
I don't think either have me convinced they are a top tier A league striker yet, but hopefully at least one of them will prove they are over the course of the season.

Shaun Evans is the referee this weekend.
This will be the 41st occasion Shaun has officiate a Jets Match. In the 40 previous we have won 8, Drawn 14 and lost 18.
Against the Mariners our record under Evans is 1-2-2 (W-D-L). This is the first F3 Derby he will officiate on the Coast.

We’re missing Kota for the game who’s copped a knock. Also will be without Grozos, Taylor, James, Nasiep and Scicluna.
Adams and Shaughnessy are in, I can see Shaughnessy being on the bench. With Mizunuma out I imagine we start either Adams or Fryer in his place

Derby day!
Important to make a statement today. Watches 3 matches so far (missed Bri v Mac and Per v Wel). Nobody has come out the blocks and put in a really impressive performance.
We should consider ourselves favourites and i want us to act like it. Early goal and take the wind out of any "galvanising" rhetoric around the Mariners.

The only shining light is that its surely far far too early for the jets to completely ruin their season innit?
Like, usually we get at least a week or 2 of hope before it all come crashing down.

The issue is lack of strength under pressure in the middle third. Similar in last two cup games kept giving easy turnovers. Need to harden up a little.

Nevermind it was obviously a foul. I didn't think VAR can change a foul decision like that? Its either a red or not. They can't change the foul decision
Clearly a foul. Arguably a red

I've had a night to reflect and on balance I thought aside from a dodgy 10 minute spell we controlled the game better than the Coast. That point we'd had a goal-mouth scramble that could easily have made it 2 and I thing the adrenaline for the younger kids wore off.
We were a penalty kick away from saying "great character shown by the team to come back from 2 down". This is a young team and we've got to be up for rocks and diamonds.
Rose's energy was terrific when he came on - did exactly what we needed him to do. Susnjar had a good game, Aquilina put in a huge shift, Bayliss was productive. Badolato didn't stop. Two brain-farts from Cooper aside he was again solid.
Still not convinced by Delianov. He wasn't tested in the Australia Cup run and I admit I haven't watched the replay but I thought he was entitled to use his hands because it wasn't a back-pass.
Burgess was below-par for sure.
We're going to get done in behind alot this season with the attacking approach and a single holder.
Oh, and I thought we got a Shaun Evans masterclass yesterday.

Bang on. Out hustled and out muscled all game. One team up for it, the other only half interested.
Winning that game would have glossed over a fairly shit performance. Hopefully losing can be a big wake up call for Millsy and the squad.

Well they need to lift - MV will have noticed the lack of strength in the challenges, as will Sydney the following week. I now expect the more experienced teams to rough us up a bit. Ugar, Gus and Brillante at WSW will be licking their lips if it continues.
We might know very early on how this sides chances are looking. Hopefully it was just a flat day.

Rose has to start, He is the #1 striker. When he gets tired, Bring on Gibson who will run at a tired defence.
With the A League squads getting younger, the physicality has noticeably dropped across the board.

I did think Gibson deserved the start considering his performance in the cup, but seeing his performance last night compared to Rose I tend to agree. Rose is the kind of guy who gives the team confidence and he puts it on opposing teams defence from the jump. Especially in the derby, his mentality is essential.
It also can't be overstated how much we missed the leadership and smarts of Kota, if he is out for a substantial period, that is a huge loss for the team and one that will be greatly felt.
I also did feel like Bertolissio came on and made a decent impact, he was a bit rougher in the midfield, and did a good job forcing the issue a little, which was welcomed
