The biggest pest in racing?
Punters' nemesis Himalaya Dream ($38.50) landed a low-blow to punters when performing a miraculous form backflip to win R7 at Rosehill. After leading and fading to finish last in two previous starts (beaten 11.4L and 11.3L), the Team Hawkes-trained enigma benefited from a change of tactics and flashed over the top late on the back of a quiet ride. Interestingly, the gelding’s previous win (also at Rosehill) also came on the back of two genuine stinkbombs.
Himalaya Dream beaten 30L (last), 10L (2nd last), 13L (last), 13L (last), wins at Rosehill. Beaten 11L (last), 11L (last), wins at Rosehill.
— Costa Rolfe (@CostaRolfe) June 18, 2016
And that's stumps for the day when Himalaya Dream wins like Phar Lap

don't think i can take azkadellia at 2.60, she will have it all to do today, great horse but maybe a bit too far in the prep for her - you can forgive the run in the straddie as that track was diabolical. back here today but with bowman on danish twist, i reckon he'll overcome the inside gate and get the twist home.

NSW to ban greyhound racing from July 1, 2017.
*or could be a gee up.
Not a gee up.
Quite unbelievable really. Yes there are issues with illegalities in the industry. However it is across the board, not just greyhounds, but gallops and pacers too. While I don't condone any of the illegal actions, I do condone the painting of all with the same brush. There are a lot of honest, hard working trainers and breeders that will lose their job because of this.

old mate ralph horowitz on twitter has a decent point though, the number of races each year is probably unsustainable. same with horses to an extent. lots of mid-week rubbish running around that's probably only good for the knackers anyway.
more oversight and control of the bad-egg owners, and less races at a higher standard would be a better outcome than a blanket ban.
crap product made worse by the sheer weight of numbers and the turnover of animals.
further, will be interesting to see if Baird stands by his hot take and refuses to take the cut of turnover of interstate greyhound meets. bet he doesn't

My old boy and Potters got on that one..
I had it in a trifecta, but got burned by some other prick that shouldn't have been there..
Overall, my gambling foray was a shambles..
Horses - torn apart like soft bread.. Keno - fist-pumped.. Pokies - Up and down (had to keep Bilbo Bags away from the double up button constantly, haha).. Meat Raffles - Bugger all..
Got hammered though.. Great times..
Cheers for the tips!!

rosehill R1: with skip on this one, Sugar Bella now on the drift out to 6.50 after opening at 4.60 on SB, very backable at those numbers for a small play. up to metro grade today and has been beating the older girls for fun out in the sticks. lets go for a big fill up first up carrrrrn.
rosehill R2: Esteban 1.60...absolute poison odds for mine but can be a useful multi builder for the thrillseekers out there. not much value it unless you want to be around him. Zayam with bowman on the back maybe a decent look in at 6
rosehill r4: my mate rustic melody is at 14 and not moving. i love this horse, has won for me at 15 and 26. i could kiss it. tougher race today on firmer ground though - probably needs much more sting out, a bit of rain would have helped. however - there will be some speed in the race if flamboyant lass and marple miss go out hard, leaving her a spot to swoop home late. did it up the rails at randwick two starts back with avdulla on board - carn big rust
caulfield r7: mahuta the big danger, who knows what he'll bring here - if he wins he'll do it the hard way chasing down lord of the sky and charmed harmony - probably too short a race for mahuta, but a good hit out nonetheless coming into next season. both LOTS and CH will blast away from the start over 1200, happy to back charmed harmony and lord of the sky e/w for a small amount along with mahuta for the win.
best of luck dawgs

reading old mate protectionist won't be coming out, will be going at the arc instead.
another interesting thing i read on another foz re: kris lees and international horses, his strike rate is pretty much better than anyone else out there, and that the majority of waller's last ones he's brought out are all pretty much unmitigated disasters and that he'll be focusing on NZ yearlings. after looking back at the duds he's brought through i'd probably be inclined to agree. the bloke has some rippers but jeez he is holding some obscene underperformers
skippy
16-08-2016, 09:34 AM
Bit of a write up on jockeys you may be interested in Luke Murrell from Australian Bloodstocks, the team that got protectionist over as well as other O/S horses, knows what he is talking about and tells it straight.
"I've also caught up on my jockey rankings and these are current as at Saturday just gone and from the 1st January. For those unfamiliar I record every jockey in Australia in certain areas but naturally concentrate in NSW. You will find that most jockeys are more hindrance to a horse than a help and as a result we are looking for the jockeys who make the least amount of mistakes. With the racing media being what it is it’s a very small world and often a jockey is given praise when not deserved ( or simple doing his job) or because he is “famous” and it’s the cool or done thing. Don’t forget not all jockeys get the same opportunities because perhaps they might not play the game with owners and trainers , perhaps because they can’t strong two words together or perhaps they are just rude or unlikable . I find the best gauge is to rate jockeys on their errors largely – whilst also keeping track of the category “ the ride won the race group – which for the average joe doesn’t occur as much as you might think”. Marks are also given for good rides that don’t get the winners.
What this does is highlight who is riding well and who is not but are living off the back of stable support or repuatations
Some Interesting findings perhaps for those who perhaps are influenced by the media

Name Errors Per Ride “ Ride won the race “ Consistency SP profile finish
Brenton Avdulla 1 every 9.8 rides 1 every 17 27/30 71%
No surprise has been riding well for 18 months plus – becoming for popular with bigger stables and getting more chance- deadly at provincials and best reader of track conditions in Sydney- Riding also more confident now and prepared to try things which has seen him win a number of races he had no right to win- due to his lesser profile he does better his mounts SP profile finish more often than anyone has for the last 10 years I have run them- however expect that to change in coming months as he gets on better stock- no bias sprinters or stayers
Hugh Bowman 1 every 7.9 rides 1 every 19 25/30 51%
Considered by many as the number 1 and rightly so – but no doubt well down on his best form which saw him peak with errors per ride of 1 in every 12 last year. The trips away perhaps help him come back invigorated – but Autumn was horrible for him despite his big wins with lots of genuine “slaughters / gave that no hope “ rides. Getting better from the gates but tactically can be exposed. Still world class just not as good as he was. However no reason he wont bounce back. Still heavily over bet- no bias with sprinters or stayers
James Mcdonald 1 in 6.8 rides 1 ride in 24 24/30 42%
Whilst with Godolphin basically drives the most amount of “Ferraris” than anyone else- has good media presence but still makes heaps more mistakes than he should. Still doesn’t ride as confident as he used to in NZ when untouchable over their and almost faultless. The trip to UK should boast his confidence – although publically that didn’t seem to be a issue. His horses always over bet although stable underperforming largely
Blake Shinn 1 in every 7.2 rides 1 ride in 24 25/30 54%
Going ok and holding his own- doesn’t make as many slaughters as he used to but struggling with his really big “outthink them tactically ride” his holding his form and is still a genuine top 5 jockey in Sydney which is the best and most competitive environment in the world for tactics. Is very good track bias reader
Tom Berry 1 in every 5.6 1 ride in 19 22/30 44%
Everyone loves tommy but has really issues with his speed and judging it and often wrecks all chances on horses by leading and riding too pretty – lots of anchor drops and tactical mistakes. However he has the ability to pull out a screamer of a ride more often than some . His overrated as a jockey but that’s largely down to his business skill and personality which has taken him a long way. Can ride but not as consistent as he should be- a good jockey when sitting off them and when following a pack- very poor when in front. Is good track bias reader most times
Glyn Schofield 1 in every 7.2 1 ride in 22 24/30 61%
Big improver this last period thanks to a great partnership with James Cummings horses. Seems to have found his hunger and whilst still poor in tactics is riding very well and now getting under bet and offers upside- especially with Cummings horses- can be a victim of playing follow the leader and not making a decision- but big improver overall this period- Poor track bias reader
Tim Clark 1 in every 5.2 1 ride in 31 20/30 54%
Definitely not the same rider we sent to HK- doing his best but seems to have no confidence or tactically nous . Has the ability somewhere but not at present
Sam Clipperton 1 in every 5.3 1 ride in 33 20/30 51%
Sam is bred and butter- goes ok but overall cant really help your mount- often seems put off by the big boys !!
Kieran Mcvoy 1 in every 7.2 1 ride in 24 25/30 64%
Probbaly one of the best and most improved. Still has a weak link for sprint races and tactics but possible the best middle distance plus rider we have at present. Always gives his middle distance horses most chances and if not for a few mistakes and lack of imitative in sprints would be right up there with Bowman challenging. Well worth following"

of the apprentices, deanne panya and blaike mcdougall are riding out of their skins at the moment. there's no better jock (apprentice or otherwise) on front runners than panya at the moment. mcdougall is working super hard, gives his rides every chance as well, one to watch.

Listening to regular hammering on the dogs most of the crap they going on with is just as relevant for horses as it is for greyhounds

look it might happen down the track, but this is the same NSW government that tipped in $10 million to the pool at the Championships this year.
the word on the street is that as baird lost the backing of Fred Nile in the senate and needed the greens and animal justice to push stuff through the upper house, hence the greys ban
the cut from the championships alone is projected at $41 million to the government each year, but never say never

here's the #qform early doors randwick form for the true believers
http://dailywrestlingnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/AJ-Styles-Tetsuya-Naito-NJPW-gifs-001.gif
Randwick R1: Super Tycoon - hard to back against the Tycoon here, has been going great guns and is great value at 2.70. not much other than Conarchie or Pindan Pearl going to beat him, probably Conarchie the one to do it with my main man avdulla on duty if it's going to happen. lock in the early price for the tycoon, eddie.
Randwick R2: Lie Direct - With Deanne Panya now finding her range on front runners, with her 3 kilo claim it's hard to go past Lie Direct here. But, with no real speed in the race, but the jig might be up. Happy to have a small play here but thrillseekers beware
Randwick R3: the Randwick equivalent of the inside running at eagle farm. a no go zone. if you're crazy enough to even attempt to play here look at Thunder Road with koby jennings claiming a couple of kilos. only the very brave, very rich, or very stupid. 3 bucks on thunder road at 41 thanks love.
Randwick R4: Derryn - We're currently in a great time for horses sired by the reasonably unfancied Hinchinbrook (as compared to his 3/4 brother Snitzel). 2x G1 winner Press Statement (who outrageously has gone to stud ffs), Samara Dancer, and the new dawg Manaya coming up later. Derryn, what a name, after the worst bloke ever Derryn Hinch(inbrook). Overcame a horrific barrier last start to storm home with fastest last 200m at Caulfield 2 weeks back. Carn.
Randwick R5: Manaya - another Hinchinbrook special. half sister to Hot Danish, has trialled well of late. Scone win 3 months ago is probably the best guide, where she blasted home around a field of 15 for the true believers. I was on that day, i still shed a tear for my sweet angel Manaya. cool story, my mum and dad's next door neighbour's son in law owns a bit in her. says she's ****en flying. get on.
Randwick R6: Can't take anything here, Generalife lol. Yuck. Will probably win with the Gun on the back. Le Romain should win, but probably wont. few bucks for a small play. The hot tip from the Q-man is to put a schooner or two on old mate Decision Time. Has lost his way but finds it from time to time. 2 schooeys on this would net you a few rounds. Decision Time, ****os
Randwick R7: Where we play the "How long can we wait to let Winx get to 1.65 before we back her?" game. Yes. Easily the best horse in the race, but the best horse doesn't always win. Is this where the streak ends? Probably not but you could spec around the whole field and load up on Winx and still come out ahead. I'll just be watching. Waiting. Samuel L Jackson.
Randwick R8: Actually one for the thrill seekers, with Frill Seeking about the only one with any speed in the race. Couldn't entertain it though, and would back Pioneering here, Heavens Above also overs for mine at 8.
Randwick R9: Southern Legend the clear choice here with Tim Clark on the back and at 3.60. Has been in the q-book for a while, i think Skip put us on. get us home in the getout stakes ledge.

winx, what a superstar. did bowman even pull the persuader out?
i missed the early ones, but i see derryn got dunzoed late on in the piece. manaya not even sighted.
rory hutchings should get a bloody olympic gold medal for his ride on pianissmo at kembla - gone inside, gone outside, got checked, eventually got out round the back and scraped home. terrifying, exhilarating ride.
eagle farm, what a shit-show. a disaster across the track. can it.

we are live for the hotly awaited q-form for all the subscribers out there, waiting with bated breath for the great man's tips
here we go!
http://pa1.narvii.com/5928/6aecb8584e03d79d751adcf6ada8afe921403525_hq.gif
Rosehill R1: Tough one to start the day. Kathy O'Hara jumps off Birds Of Tokyo who scooted away in the muck a couple of weeks back but gets Jessica Payne claiming 3 kilos on the back, if she boots her out she could very well be able to do it from the front. Firebird Flyer very well in at the weights with Innes also claiming 3. Northern Journey probably the biggest danger, with the punter's friend and absolutely vicious leader on true front runners Deanne Panya claiming as well. Malleable to lead them out and i think that Panya can get a gun run off his back. The $7 for Northern Journey is good value and i'd give him a crack. Not ideal to start the day though.
Rosehill R2: Extensible. Next.
Rosehill R5: Panya again on Allez Chival is the one to watch. Only 1100 and probably has the motor to scoot away. Also Rose of Man here who had Winx style sectionals last outing, put these two together for mine. Rose of Man to run down Allez Chival for the win.
Caulfield R5: We've Got This - one would hope we would have this, you can get 15s around this bloke on SB at the moment, a very decent each way shot
Caulfield R7 - Memsie Stakes: Group 1 is back baby. More chances to lose all your money on useless nags, but at least there's a sense of occasion. Lord of The Sky scratched and off to the farm to produce more front running nutcases who will kill your multi faster than you can say Sooboog. Tavago also scratched, more carnage rubbed out of the race. Charmed Harmony to lead - not sure he's as savage as the Lord and will get gobbled up by the pack.
Darren Weir doing a Waller here which I think might be a bit off tbh, with Palentino and Mahuta probably the cannon fodder for old mate Black Heart Bart. Maybe he's got a deal going with the owners, I don't know, but I don't like it. This whole race is a bit smelly - Tally at 34s is absolutely ridiculous overs, an E/W shot there will land you some nice biscuits. Hard to ignore Black Heart Bart though, should get a gun run from Rawiller and definitely should win this over the trip.
good luck my G's

Horses are 500kg or so, have small brains, and are extensively inbred. And yet people think the jockey is responsible when the horse doesn't get the job done.

are you saying any 50 kilogram child can pilot a thoroughbred?
to say the jockey can't be at fault because the horse is stupid is a bit weird. you can watch blokes slaughter chances on decent horses every afternoon of the week if you really want.

I'm saying a professional jockey can't always make a thoroughbred do what they want them to, and I certainly didn't suggest that any 50kg child could do better.
Jockeys can stuff up no doubt but according to punters it's always the jockey at fault. That was my point.

ladies, gentleman, children of the corn, the esteemed vikingjet (can't believe you're back), we are live with the q-man's saturday special from racing HQ (aka mum's basement)
let's gooooo!
https://media.giphy.com/media/yx6gg27ksRxK0/giphy.gif
but basically with the scratching of Winx (anyone get stung on the all-ins :rof: ?), Super Tycoon and basically everyone else I wanted to have a look at - the Randwick card is basically now a flaming hot garbage pile, however, there's always a few uneaten trash nuggets in there for the true believers.
R1 - Signposted: An absolute filth pig, loves the muck. Blaike McDougall on board claiming 3 - pile in
R2 - Dubaiinstyle: Bowman on - flying. See R1.
R3 - no thanks, would say Swear if i had to. and i will. Swear.
R4 - will be having a stab at New Divide here as well as Coming In Hot. I love these Highway Handicap races, purely designed to get people to part with money with no chance of winning anything. Genius
R5 - Tsarista hard to beat here. Has the obscene closing speed and will hopefully bomb home now Super Tycoon is out. Testashadow will go hard early but I don't know if he's got the legs to hold her out.
R6 - Awoke & Global Glamour to fight this one out i reckon. Avdulla won't want to leave it too late but he's easily the best reader of conditions out there and should have the edge to get the daugther of Rip Van Winkle home. Will need pace and GG might provide it.
R7 - Prized Icon with the super low weight the main danger here if O'Hara can punt him home. She's been riding well recently and gives it a huge chance. Storm the Stars the big flop has the blinkers on today, and better start showing something for the punters who keep piling in on him (AKA me). Probably too short for him. Somehow he's managed to win a million bucks. fmd. Might run a place, probably the value here.
R8 - I like Le Romain here. lots of resumers but Le Romain showed enough the other week to be in the running here. $6 is good fixed and I'd be taking it. Sadler's Lake is due, maybe not particularly well rated to win this race though.
R9 - my boy Japonisme returns. what a beautiful looking horse he is. absolute stunner. Sarajevo out so probably not in danger of getting run down in the finish. Hidden Pearl has the early turn of foot with old mate Craftiness. Good first up and will probably run a place.
good luck my G's - go well farken

can the people's champ - under the louvre - deal with the weight penalty he's copping on xtravagant?
my take on it: xtravagant is a serious horse, but there are major question marks on him in australia, and especially first up on softer ground. i believe it's hammering down in melbourne tonight and tomorrow, surely UTL is a ringer here and at $5, my play is UTL in to Black Heart Bart.

Last time I went to the cup cleaned up on Fiorente, one of the guys from hockey was a part owner and had the trifecta.
At least they bought Xtravagent out earlier than the day before a race what a balls up that was, apparently doesn't like the heat and if it plays up in the Mounting Yard its in for a dodgy run.
Its hard to back against VJ though, prob a little on UTL and a roughie is the play, Astro Castro is back or Genralife the cat will be as likely as anything to steal my money.

Tough race for UTL given that this is a Quality Hcp (so he is poorly weighted relative to the lesser horses). Kinglike is the danger, with Santa Ana Lane and Xtravagent filling out the First Four. Kinglike gets no weight for a Group 2 winner and is flying in his trackwork - but if Dwayne tags him in the run, UTL is a superior horse even at the weights.
Those in the media knocking UTL's record down the straight six at Flemington don't realise that in the Bobbie Lewis last year he was poorly ridden by Zahra (as always - swear something fishy was going on). He got caught in behind horses when he didn't have to, and dropped the right rein in the last 100m. He recorded one of the fastest closing sectionals of the millennium.
I am nervous this week given the weight scale and Kinglike's apparent form reversal, but the Rupert Clarke awaits (will walk that in) and then on to the Manikato to take on Chautauqua. The People's Champ (aka the Nicky Carle of Racing) will be at least a dual G1 winner by the end of spring.

Dunno if I can trust her on the back of some of those shocking trials but 6 is still decent based on her clear talent. Not sure on old mate moreira on Omei Sword based on his Strayan record but you can only ride what's put under you I guess
