The best way to find out about the LAWS would be for clubs to go out and buy the Laws of the Game book and have a good read. The reason you are happy with volunteer referees is that you dont heap as much shit on them and are prepared to put up with more errors from them.Let me know if you dont want association referees and they can be used elsewhere. Each situation differs and there is difficult to deal with hypotheticals. The ideal situation would for the ID association to request a meeting between coaches and referees(as is done in federation)as a group to go through things together. The ball is in your court.Lets see what happens.
Yes - because standing there quoting a law book at a referee that has made a wrong decision is going to change his mind.
Where in my post did i state that we did not want association referees?
I am dealing strictly with the contingency that there are no refs available on the day. I have no knowledge of how/where referees are allocated, and never pretended to - i'll leave that to the powers that be. I am saying: in the event that referees ARE NOT ALLOCATED on any given day, and that we have an unofficial volunteer referee trying to run the show - one that is not quite so well versed on the laws that your mates know so well - some laws may be open to interpretation and that it can be very beneficial to set some expectations before the game starts. This may avoid in-game inconsistencies.

Maybe some of the refs going around should do the same. Because some of the refs getting around in th lower leagues are either not up to standard or have passed their use by date.
My question is do they have a standard they have to meet or is it if they pay there money and can blow a whistle they can get a gig??
^ and there is the 'some that could argue.' Lets not turn this into a debate on the quality of referees. They have good days, they have bad days. Some referees are stubborn jerks - but they referee a fair game if you allow them to. Every one is there to do a job, and will do it to the best of their ability.
Keep this thread on the football please. The inital post was just some friendly advice to teams in the league it COULD be a good idea in the event that no refs are allocated. We'll leave it at that.

We'll have the refs you dont want. Would prefer them over a club ref every day of the week.

Not trying to bag out any refs or say I dot want any. I was just wondering if there was a standard they had to meet to ref these grades. or whether it was just if u pay the extra money that gets u in tthese grades comp. ( have been told it cost more to ref these grades then all age). But ur right this forum should be left to league 1 discussion. So if any one has an answer feel free to pm me with it.
some laws may be open to interpretation
The answer is here. Interpretation, probably wasnt offside=goal. Or that no5 centrehalf has been a AH all day so that line ball decision=goal.

Nelson Bay look sharp. They are mobile, quick enough and keep the ball well. The two forwards are good players, not quick but are handy. Mid-field is the strength, quick and mobile with speedy wide overlapping players, will take a bit to halt. The weakest part of the team is the defense and it's not even weak, they're organized and pass the ball out from the back well. Don't get carried away thought, 4-0 against Belmont included two(2) penalties, a 35m bomb and a questionable offside. Belmont were beaten not embarrassed, although they really weren't dangerous.
Also a heads up about bay ground...bloody thing is soooo soft! It's like running around in sand for an hour. Between the sponginess grass I've seen and a ground so soft that when you step down the ground sinks half an inch, believe me pass hard cause the ball doesn't roll very far. Belmont were light 13 players, suspensions and other cheap excuses...too many backing up from lower grades, it'll improve.
P.S - the info on Raymond terrace on this forum is poor...the have two incredibly quick forwards that score a lot! Midfield is alright, will be dismantled by anything resembling fit and mobile and their defense isn't good. The basic rule, get it to the quick guys and hope the score more than they concede.

yeah, ill pay that. Was just frustrating, we were undercooked, couldnt get anything going, our passing was sloppy. Like i said they are just a solid unit, no standouts(maybe forwards) just work well and if we had of turned up it could've been a good game... we had a bad formation, passed hopeless and had too many out.:banghead:
So the other 30 minutes was like playing on what?
the first 30 mins, its just slow; passing and the ball and it makes it half way. The last 60 mins it feels like sand, your tired, the aches in your feet hurt from the lumpy ground and your calves are burning. also its not a small field so when you dont have the ball there is a lot of chasing, although its not as big as raymond terrace.
anyway, this week is another week. I have to say, from the first week of results, the crowd sure wont be bored from that type of scoring
shark attack

hate to dissapoint you guys but they have another forward quicker than the 2 who played last week and can finish left and right footed , they were also missing 2 gun mid fielders as well.

pretty sure its 1 week mandatory then the panel will throw on extra if needed. We had a res's sent off on weekend for intentional handball, my understanding is its a week for a red card, then the nature off the send off gets you extra weeks at the boreds discretion. I wouldnt be suprised if he gets 2/3 for violent conduct.
are you talking about the super fast forward? the bigger one,not the little asian dude whom is only slightly slower? cause im pretty sure its "roid rage".
if shark attack is right, they have picked up another speed demon, then terrace will score, cause its hard to defend that type of speed - plus terrace ground is the biggest ground in the comp

it was the smaller forward. I reckon he will get 2 weeks. 1 for the straight red and 1 for violent conduct from intentionally chucking the ball at a player after he was fouled. It might come down to the ref's report.

Experience any day! A good Experienced fullback knows when a certain ball is most likely coming, so he would give himself the room he needs to be first to the ball or position himself to give himself an advantage. Also if he is caught out a cheap foul nearer to half is very wise to give your team time to re group :)

Maybe not but they sure do help when they r banging 30 + a season in, and thats just 1 of them. Terrace r still 4 to 5 light on for there starting 1st grade for the next couple of weeks. Still awaiting the work visas for there 2 english imports to b cleared, then they will b straight in the 1st team.
Will b a good comp this yr, and the banter is a laugh.

Back to football, good to see a lot of people talking their respective teams up. Will be an interesting year. there's only really 1 standout team for me and that's Suburbs. Suns have lost 15+ players from First and Res Grades. Kotara are always there about's So I'm predicting Suburbs 1st, Kotara, Wallsend, Beresfield, Terrace and Suns scrapping for 2,3,4

Either he means they arent in the country until their visas are cleared, or they are merely awaiting international clearence from the english FA to allow them to play here.
Any player regardless of division needs clearence to show he doesnt have any issues that would forbid him from playing here.

That 3rds score is correct i think (didnt see it all).
And since there seems to be an element of 'the dark horse' to this Nelsons Bay first grade side - illl fill in a couple of gaps.
Coming up against them - be prepared for a physically demanding match. They play an old brand of football that relies on muscles and strength on the ball, and can be dangerous with the deep long ball into the area (something that will not be a problem for suburbs, with goliath at the back).
Ive read previously that theyve had success with wide, overlapping players. Could have just been Wallsend defensive efforts, but this didnt seem the case today. Most attacking chances came, as said before, from long balls to back stick to the big men up front who will look to angle their efforts back across the goal.
I think the biggest point though - is prepare to be kicked and thumped around. Speed and fitness will be your two main assets.

The ground held up real good after all 3 games, it was mostly dry and only wet in a couple or patches on the far side. Yeah we did move the pitch about 5 metres closer to the grandstand to get out of the boggy track on the far side, hopefully we will get less games washed out now.

Correct. We have also not been training on the pitch the last week. Hopefully we stay off of it all of this week to give it a chance to recover.
I did see a NB player kicking a clump of grass/dirt off the pitch that he had just uprooted in a challenge - a sizeable chunk - and for some reason it really annoyed me. FFS - its one of the better pitches youll play on this season. Replace your divets and help us look after it/keep it that way.

I saw that too wtf.
It does appear to be a great stadium to play in and handles weather well but not great to watch for mine. Straight into the western sun, far from action, both supporters ontop of each other. I'd rather kick back on that hill on the western side.

Some drainage work has seen to all of the previous wet weather problems. However, it is the western side that remains the most waterlogged in rain events. That couple with all of the infrastructure on the eastern side made it the plausible choice for the field.
I agree with all of those points though, hawk. The stadium would have been ideal had the dog track not been built around it. But as it stands, you tend to be a little far from the game itself. Trying to watch a night game there can be terrible as well.
Would be good to set up a temp grand stand, rope fence and a drinks stand on the other side. But that is probably a little too much effort.

All good we can repair the ground , but it would be most appreciated on cleaning the away sheds , broom and bins supplied , 3 grades full of tape and dirt , must say last year all teams where very respectful and we should all have some some level of respect for the opposition facilities , hats off to morriset last week for suppling ice to the away team and been very accommodating , great bunch of guys

Ha,Ha Buddha score more then they will concede, what insight u have for the game. You should talk to GVE he could do with some of that insight into the game of football.
Anyway visa r cleared for the english imports to make there debut tomoz against the burb. Might help to fill gap left by the loss of 1 striker due to red card.
Defence not soft at back but soft all over park. 11 players on a team that all should do ther bit of defending and attacking, when the whole of the terrace team understand that they will go alot further in this league.

1st grade Belmont, another game another 2 penalties and a send off against us. I'd love to play a team where we don't give away penalties and have a player sent off...kotara are handy. Quick players in the middle and up front, it was pretty even first half, then red card came 4 mins in to second half as a second yellow then we were gone.
Belmont needs to find its feet, 2 rounds and 1pt from 6 games.
At least the crowds are getting a show with all the scoring.

One other thing: An age old issue. The referring displayed at the gardens was of the poorest quality I have ever seen. It truly was disgraceful. I'm all for referees being strict or lenient on physicality as they see fit - as long as they're consistent. Today the only consistent factor was the inconsistency of decisions...in all grades. Red cards for shirt grabbing, no cards for two footed challenges with studs showing, constant inaccurate offside calls and my pet hate of pulling the game up to 'caution' players with minute long chats and arguments with the player on What he did wrong...that resulted in no card and a whole lot of wasted time. If you want to caution a player - caution the correct way with a yellow.

Dont know wat game you were watching but it should of been a westlakes wildcat game purr purr, but cats aside this game was possible the most disgusting game i have ever watched in my LIFE!! The used tampon for a ref must have been his time of the month choosing to neglect his duties as a official and make the game all about him. majority of the game was at a standstill why he felt the need to isolate each player to tell them y he blew his whistle is beyond me. Dont get me started with the linesman on the far side either, clearly was distracted by his fantasies of preforming oral felatio on the ref in the carpark after the game and managed to make some of the poorest offside decisions this side of the equator. ONLY tru highlight of the the day was the full time whistle so we could leave and put what we had seen behind us never to be spoke of again. Also funny moment was watching the visiting teams' coach die a little on the inside as he thought his team had stole a point out of this cirque-de-sol-LAME exhibition of "Football" when after 3 (shut the eyes and hope) shots went in the back of the net to level the scores minutes from full time only for wallsend to reveal his teams tru colours as wooden spoon contenders and conceed 3 quick goals. if he didnt cry himself to sleep im not here

I am affiliated with the opposing team, and I can tell you that the bloke that put two of those 'shut your eyes and hope' shots in the back of the net has made quite the habit of it over the last 9/10 years I have played with/against him.
You are right about the refereeing though - it was horrendous.

I think when it gets into the season teams tend to take this comp less seriously. Its fine as a competitive pre season game but when you play on a wednesday night teams can struggle to field their full strength first grade team. In particular people with work, niggles from the weekend games and other commitments so coaches i think tend to try new things in these games or throw some players in the deep end and see what happens.
wallsend and kotara play each other tomorrow night and sunday so i wont be surprised to see 2 different line ups from wednesday to sunday.

the problem is the whole comp is still floored. Having nbn/ newfm league in there own seperate pool. Were sposed to be sending our 4 best sides down to coffs from newcastle and were only sending 2 of our best. plus maybe our 13th/14th best. ( thats assuming the top i.ds teams would beat the bottom newfm teams which i believe)
In saying that this way is cool to give people a few games. MAybe they should take nbn and newfm teams out of it completly because ive heard its not a priority at all for them teams once the season starts. just make it a state wide comp for interdisterict level teams.

Maybe the mindset of the Suburbs team changed after seeing the lower grades win and taking the lead early in first grade, mind you the Suburbs striker didn't know much about scoring the first goal as it was smashed into his face from our fullback clearing from a Suburbs cross.
Suburbs controlled the next 1/4 of the game with the Terrace hanging on and a few offside decisions going our way. Some cracking challenges were taking place as our boys were fighting for every ball they could. A nice ball over the defence was enough to put our striker thru who had a good shoulder to shoulder challenge with Suburbs left back, he won the ball and coolly slotted the equaliser. A few chances for both sides in the first half but went into the half time break at 1-1.
Second half saw Suburbs control alot of play thru the middle and playing out wide then getting the ball back across taking advantage of the tiring Terrace boys. they took the lead midway thru the half with a ball played wide from M.Darr to his bro A.Darr who put in a great cross for Suburbs to take the lead, maybe J.Darr scored lol.
Need to keep Matty Darr shut down as he put in some cracking shots in the second half and won't be long before he starts hitting the target.
Terrace wouldn't go down without a fight and kept pressure on Suburbs and soon won a free kick outside the right of the box. Lumberjack hit a Beckham like shot pass the wall to equalise and take his second for the game.
The home team continued to push but were caught out late in the game with the Lumberjack finishing off another thru ball worked from the middle of the park and getting the points for the Terrace.
This, our attitude was atrocious.
Terrace hounded us on every ball and took the chances they had, same couldn't be said for us.
I thought suburbs had the better of general play, decent attitude, particuarly with their trademark width. Both sides created good chances. No2 from tearass is a cracking forward albeit seemed temperamental at times. lol ponytail ray, did a decent job.

the "CHICK"in reserve grade is having her first season in senior football and did a reasonable job in the circumstances. My only complaint was that she did not card enough of you especially the foul mouthed #9 for Bero who could be heard by everyone but the referee for his loud foul language dissent following a fairly obvious foul by him.She was certainly no worse than the standard of the game which was shite-Five Nil I believe.

I agree 100% she put in a good performance and I think with some more experience she will commend the respect she deserves I ment no disrespect with the "chick" comment just being descriptive. I'm glad someone else heard the language I actually spoke to her and told her don't let them talk to you like that I think she has a bright future ahead as a ref just hope she sticks with it after copping abuse week in week out

Just wanted to comment on how great it is when you vs a team and the Referee is running around talking to the opposing team by first names not calling fouls giving a retarded pen and when you try to ask a question he tells you to shut up and go away. It's my absolute pet hate when referees refuse to answer a simple question. There's about 3 good ref's left in the association.

Uh-Oh u spoke bad about ref's be prepared to feel the rath of Outsider!!! LOL HAHA

i remember playing at 2HD 1st Division game at The Gardens one day, back around 2004/2005, when i was just out of high school, and we had a Female referee, who made some average calls, average but not horrible. At half time as we were walking to the sheds our coach walked up behind her and said....
You should go back to the f***** kitchen and stick with something your good for.
Needless to say there was a lengthy ban as a result, and our team went on to win the GF beating a Maitland team that had not lost all year, cracking goals as well.

I wouldn't count out the Suns yet and Bero are not going to make it easy for any team espically at home.
One thing I think we can be sure of and with no disrespect to Kahibah, Moriset & Belmont but them 3 will be fighting it out for the spoon

Don't think it is a broken ankle maybe just ligaments.
On another note great to see Bero playing some younger fellows in 3rd grade, one in particular I believe was 14. He could play and wasn't afraid to rip in and pick on old, slow & slightly over weight has beens.
Raymond Terrace have still made no contact to Suns about re-scheduling the washout game........ Is there a story?
Story is only ground we can use for night games is not up to scratch, pretty sure council decided to core it few weeks ago

Grounds at the terrace were attacked by bugs during summer. Dumb council didn't spray, so now the only fields we have for night games r 1 that was seeded with rye grass 2-3 weeks ago and we have not been able to train on. Or 2 others that were ripped up to install all weather drainage 3 weeks before season started so have a 100mm trench of sand every metre. Short of playing a double header 1 weekend, we need to wait out the time till grounds r fit to play on. We have been training in little cnrs of the flood lit areas and even then been lucky to get on once a week. Have been pretty well bent over and given it by council and local cricket club.

Good game last night in Reserve Grade between Garden Suburb and Morisset one thing I would like to get people's thoughts on but.
Firstly I will say I didn't see the 1st grade game on Tuesday so I'm just going off what others had told me. From what I was told Morisset played 5 players last night that played 1st grade on Tuesday night now I don't know if these blokes were reserve grade players that stepped up to 1st on Tuesday or if they were 1st grade players filling in for reserve grade last night I also don't know how they are going for numbers. I'm just after people's thoughts on clubs possibly stacking lower grades and in midweek games where you have different grades playing different nights making it easier for clubs to do so.
Anyway that said last night was a top game against a top bunch of bloke really enjoyable game goodluck to Morisset I think they will catch a few clubs by surprise.

Opened the match up for the last 20 but neither side could add to the score...
Good atmosphere from the lower grade players of both teams who hung around and got stuck into the tins...

Interesting game watching the fog roll in from the sideline, hard to see players, keepers let alone the ball! Suns first goal was finished well, from outside right hand side of the box he hit it with the outside of his left foot and it curled nicely into the right top corner of the net, was quite a sight watching it go through the fog. Our boys had a few chances but were outplayed tonight, hope fog stays away for Thursday night!

Belmont 0 v 5+ Terrace - Terrace to dominate
Kahibah 1 v 3 Kotara - I like kahibahs chances of scoring a goal or two, there is just not enough consistency across the park to beat Kotara
Beresfield 5 v 0 Morisset - havent seen berro in action. Mori to struggle though.
Wallsend 2 v 1 Suburbs - Every confidence in our boys to edge out Burbs. Dont take this to mean i expect us to win, you just have to be optimistic.
Nelson Bay 2 v 1 Newcastle Suns - This will be a very interesting game. Bay to muscle out a victory - Suns to whine constantly at the referee
Belmont 1 v 4 terrace
Wallsend 2 v suburbs 2
Kahibah 2 v kotara 4

Have not heard any thing yet but who can blame them for trying. He came to the club to help with promotion & building the club to a level where the juniors have a level to aspire playing too.
Hopefully we can hold onto to him for a few seasons yet. I would like to see Dino & Dennis Faj come back and play with this team being Terrace locals, would be the building blocks for a strong team from the Port Stephens area!

Lumberjack was chased by up two five nbn clubs in the off season. Olympic the main one i think.
There is a group of the boys that are playing in terrace now that are all mates that grew up together and played in teams with and and against each other over the years, they all decided last year to get together at terrace were they had all spent time at or clubs in port stephens.
The idear was to get the club up the divisions as there are a lot of terrace lads playing at other clubs in higher division, that say they may come home and play if we got higher up. And to give the juniors at the club something high to play in.
I don't think lumberjack will leave this season, end of season who knows. the boys are super keen to get to zpl.

I'm a big fan of this guy after watching him dismantle a couple of Zone 2 teams last year. And I have seen him do some major damage already this year, but I have to wonder if he would be able to cut it in NBN league. Most of his game seems to be around his physcial abilities, but in NBN league everyone is fit, quick and strong so I don't think he will have as much success as he is having now, but if he does go to an NBN team, good luck to him.

Pretty fair analysis of the game. Terrrace played a very physical game, which Suns tried to match, which until half time prevented them form playing Football. The play it long to the fast guys system works a treat for terrace. The "Lumberjack" as his called was incredible. Power pace and a good finisher. Suns Dominated the footballing side of things for most of the second half but with Terrace's ability to play that ball into space into Lumberjack the extra man counted for little. Suns also had arguably their best player injured after about 5mins of play. Terrace will be very hard to beat with the system they play. One things for sure this year the competition has risen by 3 fold in my eyes.

They are pretty good at playing to their strengths, seriously if you had a bloke that quick, lethal, skiful and strong wouldn't you just give him space and the ball? I rate myself as a speed demon and im sure RANGER09 will back me up, but i nearly shit myself at how quick he is, i had nothing. Terrace were definitely underrated too much coming into this, they've strengthened their defence a bit, and added another quick striker. Them being undefeated honestly has not surprised me, even though i tipped them to not be in the top 2....

no disrespect when i say this but im very surprissed that suburbs have the best defence in the league as it stands well done to those boys,
i also think wallsend haven't really tested themselves yet, kahibah scored alot against them they draw with kotara who look to be struggling and only beat suns by 1 a team which dont look as strong as in previous years, will be watching closely over the next two weekends, i think there gonna have a very tuff time with the suburbs midfield and the terrace attack. Good luck red devils. Nelsons bay are looking like a team that will do well and take a few scalps
Appreciate the advice Hawk, Anticipating the Return of the P.S I Love You Derby

3 goals against one bloke which every team will struggle to close down.
3 goals against Bero after 2 mins 1st defender got injured replace by someone that had already played a full game in reserves, after 50mins 2nd defender gets injured and the whole back line was reshuffled. Bero were also handed a very dubious penalty as well. Suburb have quite a strong defense with great depth Strikers win games Defenders win Championships

Kotara have not been struggling, they have dominated half the game in all the games they have played this year, they just haven't been able to put away teams when they had the chance, and have played catch up football. They have a dangerous attack & will be moving back up the table when the consistency kicks in

Anyone heard the result for Berro/mori?
If Berro got up - I do believe I picked a perfect round. Scores were pretty close too.

Belmont vs terrace - we played each other in ID2 last year, terrace have recruited well, new mobile midfield who pass well and do the most important thing, feed the forwards. Firstly , terrace are a heap better than last year, chalk and cheese, that english bloke is a good player and will keep the team on the ball for longer. secondly, lumberjack....****. Last year he was fast and shot hard and well, this year or against us a least he dropped back as attacking midfield. Got the ball and didn't hit the burners every time, but still scored 3 retarded missiles that were unstoppable and walked around players at 1/3 speed. He's a freak wasting his time at this lvl. Terrace have recruited well...but lose lez and the team would be no where. As opposed to other teams like suburbs and wallsend whom don't rely on and 1 player singularly but rather hurt everywhere. To the teams in the mix, good luck stopping him, not sure at our lvl anyone can.
Its a shame on promotion that we lose half our first grade team and recruit young blokes not up to first grade. its a great comp that we are spectators in :(
