Didn't like Sterling in the middle there. His passing was awful and that Belgium Jedinak kept pushing him off the ball.
He did get about though.
Rodgers post game on the Sturridge dive:
"He jumped to avoid the tackle, there was no contact made, but it wasn't a dive"
Ummmmm ok. It was Wenger-esque in its silliness.
Rooney is the only one on that team who had a go. Geez he's quality.
Liverpool thoroughly deserved it though.
Rooney and Carrick were both f*cking whinging bellends. Rooney goes apoplectic when he launched himself into Skrtel looking for a pen and rightly didnt get one.
Carrick gave what should have been a stonewall penalty but berated the ref anyway when it wasnt given. What was he going on about?
The dive for the pen was squared when Stevie missed it. We should have had that one as well as the one in the first half where Luis was clipped but tried to stay on his feet.
Rafael was an absolute liability for them, flying into tackles and should have been sent off with a second yellow for his handball that gave away the penalty. But then again, Flanno was doing the same thing for us so that evens out lol
De Gea made an absolutely world class save to deny Luis. Any other day we would have beaten them by 5 or 6. I can only remember United threatening our box maybe three times the entire game. RVP just wasnt interested.

Agree 100%.

I'd be surprised if RVP stays much longer.
If i was United i'd get rid of him. He's ageing, not interested and would attract a pretty good price, but leave it a year, he's a year older, another year of mediocrity and his price drops dramatically. But, at the stage, somebody would pick him up. Wouldn't mind having a RVP.....As backup for SAS :)

Meh score against us. We'll just score more.

If we tighten our defence do you think we'd score as many goals though?
However, I think if we just eliminate shitty errors like stray back passes, poor clearing, interceptions and general mistakes we would have conceded far less goals. Teams don't really seem to be able to break us down tactically bar arsenal, Chelsea and man city and a few others. Usually it's a mistake.

Haven't seen the game yet. Suarez hat trick again. Preparing for Norwich I hope.

I'm a huge fan of this years Home kit. Classiest one we've had since Adidas. The new home one doesn't do it for me in comparison. Managed to scrounge a Home goalkeeper shirt from this year which is my prized possession atm.

Our current Away has grown on me, it would be pretty spot on if we didn't have the jizz of shit at the bottom. New one isn't bad, not a huge fan of yellow though. I like white away kits.
Anything is an improvement on the third kit.

Don't expect United to surge up the table next year, no Europe is a double edge sword Liverpool struggled for a few years getting back to the top due to not being a attractive destination for transfer targets. We almost lost Surez at the start of the season and Gerrard back in 09 due to no Europe too. I would expect United will find the same troubles and in the end United will find they're paying overs for mediocrity.
look at the 2 players they are linked to ATM Kroos and Shaw

Kroos from Bayern- £280,000pw rumored Salary.
Kroos has also public stated his flattered by the attention from United but he wants to play CL football

Shaw from Southamton- £30mil rumored bid from united for a 20yr Lb.
Shaw also a lifelong Chelsea fan is rumored to be linked to Chelsea,
Chelsea- boyhood Club, CL Football, Jose.
United- Prob certain starter, No CL, Moyes.

i think they still can attract decent players due to its only a new thing and theres plenty of money.

but as ive often stated, fergy is irreplaceable and so is the success even if you do buy the best eg city, chelks

as for this year so far pool are playing attractive football and have achieved a champions league spot for next year which is a decent result considering the roster they have.

Reminds me of Aaron Lennon and Theo Wallcott.
Very good players, not great.
Suarez is great.

Suarez is a good player who is an absolute grub.

Last night he got chopped and went down like he had been hit by a sledge hammer. Ref ignored it and the **** was still rolling around the ground until he realised Liverpool had the ball and he might be in a position to score.

The bloke then proceeded to get up and run at break neck speed into a position for his teammate. Play broke down he never got the ball and then the bloke was once again on the floor with the theatrics. FMD Good news was that he had copped a good kicking from some hack to start with.

Great player Yes

Despicable human though.

PS Disclaimer if Tinks finds some spare money under his couch and signs him to partner Griff at Stade de Newy all past sins I find with this bloke will be absolved

yep, you're right, hes the only bloke who has ever done that.

Also, was this the incident going around the twitterverse today showing his massive 'dive' (it was on an american sports site), then all the commenters were like DERRRR HES A DISGRACE DERRRRR, yet when they showed the other angle he was clearly fouled and the tackle probably deserved a red?
was it that one?

for the record i think suarez is one of the best players in the world right now. i hate his guts but you can't deny what he is doing right now. he can shoot, pass, beat players, score from free kicks and has a phenomenal work-rate. he's the player that rooney could have been had he not suffered injuries and become lazy. he will never be ronaldo or messi good, though.

also gerrard has actually had the quietest, least influential year of his career (that I can remember). he has taken on a new role which pretty much has been sit in with the centre-backs and let suarez, coutinho, sturridge and sterling do their thing while the fullbacks bomb on. no doubt he will receive high praise in any case.

Agree re:Suarez but I think you're tough on Rooney. Still reackon he's one of the top 5 players in the Prem.

Disagree re:Gerrard. It's debatable that he's been more influential this year because of Liverpools long standing troubles at the back. They've never had a drama scoring these past few years but defending has been ordinary. Gerrard is almost playing a sweeper role in attack and cleans up so much shit. They certainly don't seem to miss him in the front third. I think a lot of neutrals would be happy to see a local lad/one club player like him get a winners medal so yeah he'll get a sympathetic run from the press.

Rooney on his day can still do everything but, sadly for United fans, that doesn't happen very often anymore. I don't really know where his best position is these days.

Yeah exactly. Liverpool have been suspect at the back all season and Gerrard hasn't really done much to aid that. Rodgers will definitely need to address that aspect of the side because they've pretty much been riding on the coattails of their outrageous attack this season.

Our defence is shit. We virtually have a rookie in Flanagan. And 3 2nd rate centre backs. Agger has been poor. Skrtel has stood up this season to continue his history of good seasons when hes nearing the end of a contract. And sakho, who looks awkward but isn't too bad.
Coupled with Johnson's 1 good, 4 bad.
Gerrard dropping back is more of a way to allow him to play 90 minutes more than anything. It works well with Henderson who works tirelessly in defence. Gerrard drops into a sweeper role more often. If class
Him as a attacking centre back. Opposed to a defensive midfield tbh. He rarely comes forward when we break. Wouldn't mind seeing Lucas drop to dm push gerrard up into the cm/lcm/rcm with coutinho/Allen play 60 minutes and come off. The absence of Henderson is bigger than we think IMO. He allows everyone to pretty much do as they please as he always has the legs to get back and defend when the rest bomb forward.

But yeh, biggest task for Rogers is to sort our shit defence out . I think we should retain reina for the cl and in case of Mignolet injury/poor performance. Need a full back who can play either side ideally. And hopefully Enrique is back. And maybe a "great" cb with cl experience.

Steven Gerrard.
Put him back there, he'd immediately become a Pique clone. It would extend his career and they could put some fresher legs in the mids. Bloke can play the position with his eyes closed.

Disagree as I said they can't afford to drop points and everyone seems to be forgetting the fact they have been unbeaten since the turn of the new year (quite a incredible achievement from a side that was expected to not qualify for CL at the start of the season by most people). If they win it will be a great story of the poorer underdog wining against the odds. If they lose it will be the one that got away, far from choking.

Not a great result but I've been saying all along the title race isn't over. It still isn't. Liverpool have the points in the bag and Man City still have to win them.

In saying that, by the time Liverpool play on Tuesday morning next week, they could be in third if Chelsea and City win. That'll be interesting to see how they respond. It can be seen as pressure or as the under dogs.

Either way this is an exciting way to finish the season.

Weird thing is, why didn't LFC play for the point? That's all they needed, it was Chelsea who actually needed to win to have any chance yet Liverpool played directly into their hands.
LFC should have sat back from the start, try and draw Chelsea out and hit them on the break like they've done a lot this year. If Chelsea didn't want to try, then settle for the point and maintain control of your destiny.
Liverpool completely cocked it up.

I've said for ages that Gerrard eventually should be CB, he is doing half that job this year with great success. He was great vs City but last night fell into the trap of thinking he was a number #10 again. He took over everything and pushed Coutinho out of the game.

I don't think his slip was what cost them the game. More so it was Rodgers tactics, and Gerrards 2nd half.

In my opinion, regardless of whether Liverpool win the league or not, I think it's been a success. Sure it'll be tough to take getting so close if we miss out and I will be very disappointed, but the team was written off as maybe finishing 7th so Top 3 is a great achievement.

It's still anyone's race as I mentioned before, and I've still got hope Liverpool can get there.

The test for the club that I am waiting to see is during the off season. Last time we were in a position and finished second was back in 2008/09. That summer we failed to invest because of the two muppets that owned the club then. As a result we all know what happened. They never progressed - in fact they did the opposite and regressed. Torres slumped, Mascherano left and so did Xabi, we sold Arbeloa just to fund other transfers.

I hope the club have learned from this and invest wisely in the summer so they can take the experience from this year and challenge again.

Absolute masterclass that is on how to try and take the moral high ground after ballsing it up and choking with the finish line in sight.

End of day Liverpool had the title destiny in their own hands after doing all the hard work and have ballsed it up with 3 games left .

2 out of 3 games at home, playing a team on the back of a UCL semi and with an eye on the midweek return leg and less to play for, a season with no Euro football to sidetrack and drain them, short cup runs so easier to focus on the League.

These guys have ****ed it up big time.

Ok I'll bite,
Legit Questions but.

2 weeks ago Chelsea had their destiny in their own hands, Did they CHOKE?
Yep they have by losing to vastly inferior opponents. They have not achieved as much as they could this year. they have a great squad and a great manager and shouldn't be finding themselves so far behind with 3 games to go considering the amount of points they have dropped this season against the bigger teams (very few) the dropping of points to the lesser lights will most likely cost them the title

Up until last nights result City were relying on results after being in control of their destiny 2 weeks ago would it of been considered a CHOKE if they didn't win?
Considering their resources yep.

Arsenal were in the box seat at the turn of the year have they CHOKED?

I would say Arsenal have to an extent. Mainly cause they fell away so early and easily.
Put in big games away from home against Chelsea Man C Liverpool they got thumped. Obviously something missing there big time to capitulate so timidly. Arsenal have massively underachieved in 2014 and should have made much more of a fist of winning the title than they have

Everton were in control of their own destiny to make the CL have they CHOKED?
At the level of the also rans such as Spuds Everton etc fighting for UCL spots Europa spots these teams are generally inconsistent and can stick it to the big boys one day then lose the game at home to the likes of WBA Swansea etc
Everton were never in a position to lay claim to 4th spot as theirs and would have to battle it out to the end of season against better resourced outfit(Arsenal)

If Real and Chelsea don't win the CL will they be considered as CHOKING?

Firstly I am of the opinion Bayern and Athletico are the two better sides in these ties. Secondly neither RM or Chelsea are that far behind their rivals in abilities so both ties could go either way. there are no great mismatches here

I'll give you my thoughts once these questions are answered.

Amazing how many people come out of the woodwork after six months to stick the boot in after one loss.
Let me spell it out for you: Most reasonable and rational liverpool supporters wanted UCL qualification at the beginning of the season, no-one dreamt we would be in the position we are in now. Which is top of the league with two games to play.
We achieved an automatic Champions League spot with four games to go, while playing some brilliant football with a team that was expected to struggle to break into the top 4 due to the differences in player investment and squad depth.
Anything achieved above this is purely icing.

I posted elsewhere, some people seem to have mistaken belief and hope that we COULD win the league, as that we expected we WOULD win the league. While the loss last night to a classless team worth over 300mil who play for a classless manager who has his team playing a more expensive version of an Allardyce gameplan hurts, it was after an 11 game winning streak. They did what they had to do, and everyone knew thats how they would play, it was up to us to break through. Which we didnt. He did the same thing to Barca ffs and we arent anywhere near that level.

It sucks that we have lost that momentum, but if the final round of the EPL a few seasons ago showed anything - its not over until the final whistle. Whether we win or not, its been a f*cking brilliant season. End of.

Man, I hope we win it more than ever just to piss everyone off.
You all say Liverpool fans are bad....

Re: the game.
We miss Henderson more than anyone IMO. Suarez has no mojo at the moment. Sterling runs out of puff. Gerrard did well in my opinion. Coutinho goes missing too easily. I had to check he was still on at one stage.
I can't help but think that majority of our conceded goals are mistakes.
That being said, Chelsea had a gameplay and executed. IMO the best thing they did was time waste in the opening 5 minutes as it riled the supporters up and liverpool start to panic when they don't score.

Schwarzer made some crucial saves. Ivanovic had a top game. Chelsea have something we don't have and it's the ability to close out games comfortably. I didn't think we were going to score. Whenever Pool have a lead we always look vulnerable with donkey clearances etc.

I'd now prefer City to win it as opposed to Chelsea as City, liverpool and arsenal all play a better style/more entertaining football.

That being said, I don't think we have choked either. It was our first loss in the calendar year so I guess in some ways inevitable, but I agree that we should have ensured we got something out of it.

There we go
My understanding of CHOKING and your idea of it seem to be different. There was and still is a lot of football to be played, my definition of CHOKING is falling at the last hurdle when you're in front by 10 meters. By your logic 19 other clubs will CHOKE this year because they didn't win the Premier League.
Yes they let a good opportunity slip (no pun intended)
Did they CHOKE? Far from it, more like exceed expectations.

As for porksey and your attempts at trolling, it's a real shame they canned the Intertoto Cup, United could of had a chance to win something next year.

Ok I'll bite,
Legit Questions but.

2 weeks ago Chelsea had their destiny in their own hands, Did they CHOKE?
Up until last nights result City were relying on results after being in control of their destiny 2 weeks ago would it of been considered a CHOKE if they didn't win?
Arsenal were in the box seat at the turn of the year have they CHOKED?
Everton were in control of their own destiny to make the CL have they CHOKED?
If Real and Chelsea don't win the CL will they be considered as CHOKING?

I'll give you my thoughts once these questions are answered.

it's a big old yes to every question.

apart from the champions league one, which is kinda stupid.

and it looks like we are actually going to end the season with more trophies than you will, despite it being our worst season for 20 odd years and this being close to your best during that same timeframe.

All I was pointing out was that some Clubs have failed to capitalize when they have been in the position's to do so, if that's your idea of CHOKING then by logic 19 other Premier League clubs will CHOKE this year.

As I said in a earlier post, my idea of CHOKING is stumbling at the last hurdle when you have a 10 meter lead. What Liverpool has done would be best described as a $10 roughy sitting behind the leader on the last turn timing their kick a bit early to gain the lead only to be piped at the post by the $1.10 favourite.

From a neutral...start of season Liverpool would have loved ECL qualification.....to at least keep Suarez happy and attract a couple of big names who will suddenly find Liverpool far more appealing than Manchester United.

Three months ago Liverpool knew they would have to win almost all of their games AND beat both Man City and Chelsea to win the title. They have come mighty close.

They deserve admiration for their efforts and could still win it.

I think all of the title contenders have done their fair share of choking in the last few weeks. City and Chelsea both dropping points against Sunderland should have seen them out of the race.

Sadly it looks likely that Liverpool's slip has let the others back in by throwing away the advantage they had worked so hard to gain.

I'm under no illusion that the likelihood of Liverpool winning the title are very slim. However, let's wait until Villa and Man City play and we will see. You have no way of knowing 100% what is going to happen.

Even still, if, and I know it's an if, Man City win Thursday and they lose on the weekend and Liverpool win then it changes again. Liverpool win the title.

I'm enjoying to see how this is all playing out, and I called it ages ago - Palace was always going to be a tough game.

With the physiological capitulation this mornings efforts will inflict on Liverpool I reckon they will be struggling even to win their remaining game against Newcastle.

Man City will roll through their last two games and get the required results comfortably. There may be a few nerves if their opponents start making a game of it but Citehs class will shine through by FT

2014/15:

GKs: keep Mignolet, bring back Reina unless we have developing somebody else in mind as a no 2. Jones wouldn't be up to it, especially in UCL.

Backs: never got the Sakho love to be honest, I don't really rate him. Cissokho- seeya. Agger to step up next year. Skrtel to sign an extension and be shit. So we need another world Class CB to play UCL + big games.
Flanagan - keep. Hopefully Enrique is fit soon. Could do with another full back that can play either side. Need to make a decision on Johnson IMO. I'd give him 6 months and if he's still not consistent sell him and get some $$. His defending was poor for 2 of their goals after he committed to attack and jogged on back and hardly pressured Gayle.

Mids: need Henderson fit. For me, he's been our most valuable player this year. Suarez sturridge and gerrard get all the praise but he's the engine behind the glamour. You've Seen how much we struggle without him. Quite frankly he's developing into a gerrard esque player with his passing. **** Aspas, Alberto and Moses off. Get in a proven UCL midfielder or 2. And/or a developing youngster after a break.

Forwards:
Need another striker. A good one to come on for SAS and actually perform. Unlike Aspas or Alberto who Rogers hates bringing on.

Summary:
UCL proven CB, Mid, Striker thanks. And a full back.

Pressure all on City to win now. I think opposition teams have more motivation when they can stop a team from winning it. Wish villa lost the other day though so they were fighting for survival.

****ing Arsenal fans hanging shit on liverpool. FFS we havent a leg to stand on.

The reason IMO that liverpool are an easy&funny target is the amount of "fans" that have come out of the woodwork this season after they've suddenly actually competing for top four.

When arsenal were sitting on top of the table this year I heard very few arsenal fans saying "we'll win the league" - the amount of pool fans I've heard is almost the inverse percentage of fans.

Plus the whole fapfests of the "slip" and all that stuff is just TOO funny. Arsenal have slipped from the title race due to mostly injury, pool did so due to hilarity

because being on top at xmas isnt anything to crow about, but with 3 games to go goners fans would be all over it. injuries cruelled us excuses lulz. arse were never in it and wont be next year. best jump on the chels, manc or manu train. pool had a good year but why so jealous. Im happy for city or chels to win it.

Happy for City to win it as they play free flowing, attacking football that is entertaining to watch.
Liverpool are in the same boat.
As are Arsenal, well were, before their slump.
Pass on Chelsea but, Can't handle their boring games. They have the class of player to dominate games but settle for 1-0 wins :/.

Also, I'd like to point out, suarez missed 6 games. Gerrard was out for a few games also and sturridge missed a month or 2 so we've had to go without our 3 top players throughout the season.

The reason they weren't crowing was because it was the start of the season and they were only there based on alphabetical order :lulz:

I think everyone just loves hanging out in here. It's the most used thread in this sub forum.

And who are the closet fans that have come out on this forum? Liverpool fans have plenty to proud about how the team has performed this year.

For the actual Liverpool supporters in this thread, you should already know that the Newy subbranch of LFC NSW has been meeting at Wests New Lambton for fixtures, and will be there again in force on sunday. Has been over 200 people for some games, so expect a decent crowd for the final game to celebrate a brilliant season.

Well that was something I haven't experienced before - going into the last game of the season with a shot still at the title.

Yeah the Liverpool match was quite a slow one, and the quality wasn't quite there. But the team secured second and reached the goal from the beginning of the season.

next season isn't going to be quite so open. Teams will be aware of Liverpool's appreach and won't be caught by surprise.

FSG can't make the same mistakes those last two scumbag owners and must invest in the team to push it on further still and go to the next level. I for one think they will and I think it'll start with the purcahse of Lallana. I won't be surprised if we see the back of Glen Johnson, either Agger or Skrtel and possibly Lucas amongst some other fringe players. There won't be many though because the club is playing in 4 competitions next season.

Glad to see the back of Moses however Cissokho wasn't horrid. He did a fair job.
