Same starting XI as last week. Including Brown.

Bench is Brillante, Chilli and Goodwin.

Why does GvE persist with starting our best player on the bench?

So the only change to the team from last week is that Pepper has been given the shaft for Brillante?

Doesn't exactly inspire me with confidence... how long is GvE going to give Brown to play his way into form? Is persisting with him week after week while he continues to be awful going to have the opposite effect and destroy his confidence some more?

I just don't get how we've heard all year about the high press and the possession game and the team do the absolute opposite game in, game out. When will the coach be held accountable for either failing to get his side to play his tactics or for for having the wrong tactics in place for each game when we loose. I get you can't win em all, but when we're getting beat its a real shellacking. If the highly publicised aforementioned tactics are a ruse to confuse the opposition, please give a slip of paper to all the members telling us so. I can't bear the suspense any longer. god, this ref.

absolutely no problems with mitchell's second yellow, i could even tolerate a straight red for his brainfart push. but god almighty, YOU DON'T AUTOMATICALLY HAVE TO GIVE OUT A YELLOW IF THERE IS A PENALTY AWARDED!!!! penalty yes, yellow no. it isn't deliberate in any way, it's just bloody unco.

i can only guess that broich is a victim of mistaken identity. i HOPE he thought that he was carding paartalu. i cannot fathom how a player running from at least 40m away does not receive a yellow (at the least), especially when he comes in with elbows raised.

how does chapman get a yellow for what he did? all he did was pull a player away from a potential fight! nothing he did was worthy of a yellow.

and that yellow at 18 minutes. FFS, who wastes time at 18 minutes in and nil all?

this ref, never again to ref anybody. not even under 6's.

god almighty i hope the FFA keep a few million from the new tv deal in reserve to establish fully professional referees. this is pathetic.

we were pretty unlucky in the end. we had the better chances in the first half and did quite well in the second but just couldn't break through which is hardly shameful away to brisbane.

i do think mitto was hard done by when he was booked for the penalty, obviously he should know better than to retaliate like he did. i think he was riled up by being ****ed over by the ref on a few occasions (murdocca's dive, corner given when he clearly didn't touch the ball, yellow for the pen).

There was no luck involved. We weren't good enough and have had luck in earlier games this season.

GvE talks about stuff that the team doesn't look like doing at all. Is that the teams fault or the coaches fault? At best we look like a counter attacking team; at worst, a long ball to Heskeys melon team... not the high pressure, high possession quick ball movement slick passing team GvE has had us believe we are aiming for. He persists with players who aren't up to his fabled system of play, he persists with players who are horribly out of form/out of shape/whatever Brown is and his substitutions are baffling. Ribeiro is pretty much our only creative player in the final third yet he makes way for Brillante. Wheelhouse is our only creative player from deep yet he is the one that gets the chop at the end?

In summary, Deans OUT.

Selections for starters

Mitchell, Brown and Neville have been going like busted asses yet continue to get a start over others who perform better when given the opportunity.

If Brown and Neville have been going better the Goodwin and Virgilli i will dead set give it away.

Out of both Mitchell and Tiago ( not much of a choice i know ) but Tiago has been going better. Mitchell's passing is shit at best.

So glad our coach makes his decision on how the guy performs in training when compared to the guy (guys if you inclulde Virgili) who comes onto the pitch and turns the game.

And Mitchell has had one good game against Perth and has been rubbish otherwise. Awful on the ball, awful decision making in the box (is that 2 pens for him now?) and so slow.

militiamon
01-12-2012, 10:16 PM
I agree with both sides of the argument.

It is a huge overreaction to be blaming all our woes on GVE. You could see for parts of the game that the idea was right, and the players could do better than what they did. Losing an away game 1-0 based on a penalty is nothing to cry about.

It's true though that some of his selections for the last couple of games have been poor. I'm not too worried about the Goodwin thing because he is still coming back from a bit of an injury, and he has played his best games from the bench, but James Brown should no longer be starting. The more obvious problem was keeping the centre-back pairing from last week, which clearly didn't work then and so it wasn't surprising it didn't work well tonight. I also think we might need to shake up the midfield a bit, I see Brillante as being a potential candidate for this, he's been solid in his appearances from the bench, and I think GVE has a similar opinion.

To keep it short, I like the way we're playing and see that we have the potential to do well under GVE, he just needs to give more thought (or less?) to his selections.

We agree agree with both your last comments.

At least we know that either GVE is taking MFKS's advice by benching our best players, or they are the same person. Which seems conceivable considering the similar amount of dribble.

Dissappointed. Probably my only a-league game I will attend all year. I didn't expect the jets to set the world alight but I expected more attacking threat.

Ribeiro looked alright IMO. Goodwin needed to start. One part in particular brown had a chance to run down the line into space.... I think he may have scratched his nuts, not sure what he did. Mitchell, well I am not sure what happened but I have been told he threw a punch? Confirmation? Heskey didn't do much off the ball. But he was great in the air. Virgilli looked good off the bench.

Just gutted I have to put up with my uncle now for the next 24 hours.

Cannot understand the brown selection over goodwin. Brown will come good but hes not match fit and should be coming off the bench.
Really think it is time for zad to have a rest he is nowhere near his best at the moment and Ribiero should never have been taken off.
As for the ref - think GvE summed it up best "Brisbane gave away 12 fouls, we gave away 13 but end up with 7 yellow cards! Was strange"

First game I have been able to watch for awhile. my opinions probably differ from what others think.

Firstly thank god we dont have to put up with mitchell next week. he is hopeless. always sticks his legs out and asks for trouble.
chapman is the only centre back that i have confidence with. he is going to be a gun
a pairing of chappy and solid is our best combination. im a fan of tiargo but i think hes better at dm too many brain snaps, mitchell see above and regs is a solid back up
I also dont get all the neville hate, love how he is getting forward and threatening. him and brilliante are guns
with brown i can actually see the promise there. once things click for him he is going to be a weapon.
zads was lucky not to be sent imo, rediculous tackle but loved his performance when he was lone centre mid.
griff is a myth, soo over rated and goes missing.

and why the hell did we sub ribs off he made a few good runs and we were down. doesnt make sense

hopefully this is our line up next week
--------------gash------------------
nev---------chappy---solid-------brilliant
-------jobe------zad--------------
-----------ribs-----------------
griff--------heksey---------goodwin

taggs
brown
virgilli (just cause he is newy....)

Roberio heskey and griff looked good together in the first half. Roberio looks like a busy player ,always trying to go forward,he should be playing more. And goodwin should be playing every ****in minute.
Defense is rooted.

My 14 year old left footed son produces a better cross than Neville with his right foot. Did Ribeiro pick up a knock or something to be dragged ?.

02-12-2012, 10:34 AM
I'd say it was a combination of the fact that he wanted to bring on a more defensive player to cover for the loss of Mitchell, and that Ribeiro was only tentatively in the team in the first place. Pretty obvious that he is another player who is good enough to be in the team, and should be in it, but GVE does not personally rate him for whatever reason.

I think he did a great job in the first 10 mins when we were on top, his short passes and vision were exactly what we needed, after that Brisbane completely dominated possession so his influence diminished (but so did Heskey's, Griff's etc.).

Don't get all the love for Professional ref's, you know they are just going to offer these same numpties the jobs, which means they'll get paid more for doing the same awful job. If I pay a blind bloke, he'll still be blind.

militiamon

I think it was the right idea. When Brillante came on he filled the gap perfectly and our defence was fairly sound. With our record it could've turned into a shambles at the back otherwise. It also helped us win back possession. In the first half our attackers were virtually useless because Brisbane were dominating the midfield. Just a counter opinion.

Everyone would agree that it should have been Brown instead of Ribeiro though.

It's not the money that will make them better, it's the time spent on improving their skils. i.e - they will not have "day-jobs", they will be paid to be full-time referees and train as such. Much liike the difference between a semi-pro and professional football player. Main difference is the time spent training

If people missed it, GVE explained in the press conference that Tiago was out because he had a blood injection (whatever that means) earlier this week and he was also sick. He also flagged Ritter as potentially playing at CB next week.

I would be happy to give Ritter a start in cb and if Goodwin doesn't get on the field at left wing than I think he should be left back. Though briliante could be a good choice for lb also

I wonder what the MRC will make of the Broich vs Mitchell fiasco ? Knowing our luck Chapman will probably get a suspension, Broichwill have his red recinded, and Partaluu will have no case to answer for.

GVE's comments about the lack of Roar players given cards considering they commited a lot more fouls than us was dead on the money.

I also thought GVE handled the press conference well and he's no doubt on the improve in that respect.

Being at the game last night referee epic clown.

Fully support the pen fully support the red card. At the end of the day we didn't take our chances and weren't good enough but the referee was the most epic failure of a specimen to grace the HAL

3 mins to go Hingert goes down in the Roar 6 yard box to waste time. Ref trots over no serious injury instead of ushering Hingert off the park he lets him lay on the ground wasting time.

The booking for Neville for time wasting epic failure

In the second half Halloran kicked the ball 30 -40m downfield after the ball was easily 3-4 metres over sideline and no yellow??

But the absolute best of his incompetence was in the second half around half way Halloran was just not quite quick enough to keep the ball going out for a Jets throw in.
Straight away the Linesman signals for a Jets throw in.

Halloran pauses for 2-3 seconds giving "himself up" and then after not getting the refs whistle knocks the ball infield after 15-20 seconds of 11 Jets players and 200 Jets fans yelling at him the ref finally looks over at the linesman who has had his flag up for ages and only just put it down after being ignored by the ref for so long. Some how the dickhead then gives us the throw in.

Refereeing for idiots would suggest looking at your linesman for confirmation whether in or out any time the ball goes close to side line. The fact that this **** knuckle can't do that is indicative of why he shouldn't be reffing HAL

mitchell is the only reason we didnt get a point and its as as simple as that. We should be greatful the ref was nice enough to send broich with him otherwise we would have been smashed 5-0 as he was tearing us apart (lol)

even though i gave it to him against heart, i was very impressed with chapman.

neville was absolutely sh*t his crossing. on the weekend was 100% tarek elrich, either straight to the keeper or the first defender.

Brilliante on the other hand was fantastic when he came on, first pass was always attack minded and he linked up with goodwin really well when he came on. would be swapping them 2 this weekend.

Tiago (besides all the lol moments) needs to go back into the starting eleven or mcbreen is going to walk all over us, need an experienced player just to mark the khunt right out of the game, otherwise i can see a hattrick coming

perfect time this week to go back to 4-3-3 lining up as follows

--------------------------Gash----------------------------
---Brilliante------tiago-------Chapman-------Ritter---
--------------------------Jobe----------------------------
-----------------Bernado-------Rubez-------------------
--Chilli-------------------Hesk---------------Goodwin--

i really can feel an stubborn and arrogant GVE 3-4-3 coming and it scares me because i think graham arnold will destroy us if thats the case.

Wtf @ goodwin not starting, clearly the brightest spark in the team.

Bare in mind I have not watched the game, but I find it interesting that he took off Ribero and kept Brown on when we had a man sent?
I would have thought a player like ribero that can keep hold of the ball a bit and try to control the pace of the game would be much better than a luxury player like brown who clearly is not up to scratch at the moment.
