They have Princess and Millsy out... Heskey could cause Broxham (no joke...) and Ansell (I think) a shitload of problems at the back.

Sadly, we might score 5 but they are better going forward than we are so they will score 6.

11 goal thriller.

Surprised that Neville isnt in the team. Can imagine GvE going with a 4231 in the order above, or a 532 with Chapman dropping back to CB and Griff playing upfront with Heskey

Should also add, Neville was forced due to a tight hammy.

With melb closing down zad etc the only option left is to lob it up to Heskey!
If the fullbacks just stay dropped slightly off until we move forward it will be much easier to play out.

Have to agree. Chapman played Rojas onside in the first place, and Ritter was meant to be marking Rojas but lost him just as badly as Gallaway. Shit defending all around.

That said, Melbourne are lucky to be 2-up, 1-1 or 2-1 would probably be a more accurate reflection of the game so far.

We played a good game, better than MV overall, but we were unfortunate to concede a couple of goals so weakly. Not bad considering MV are one of the in-form teams of the league, with undoubtedly the best coach. Don't let that stop you all from having a spaz.

Positives - Virgili + Goodwin combo worked well again, Heskey was very effective in the middle, saw a lot more passion from the players and we dominated the game for good portions
Negative - Defence is still complete shit

Need to rant:
Griffo looks honking these days, absolutely no idea what he's doing. Galloway easily the worst defender in the league, up there with Ritter and Mitchell. GvE - f*ck me. Brown is deadset pathetic, looked scared to go near the bloody ball let alone do anything with it. I'd back him to lose a footrace to Sasho, honestly. As for Biraz in goals tonight, well....I honestly rate the kid really highly but his attempts were embarrasing for those goals to say the least. Especially for someone of his quality. Maybe it's because I rate him so highly that I'm judging him harshly, but still.
Heskey is still a million times better than any other player in our team. Except for Zad, who is both an attacking and defensive God. Talk about leading by example as captain, because Zad was inspirational.
Goodwin and Chilli, meh. Some good, some bad from both of them.

Conclusion: GvE out. Deans out. Galloway out. Mitchell out.
Everyone else can do whatever the f*ck they want.

Fair points, militiamon, but everyone's entitled to lose their shit about the fact that we're "unfortunately" conceding soft goals every single game. Doesn't matter how good the rest of the team is playing: it's not sustainable, we can't do a Manure and score more than we concede, and we will very quickly end up on the bottom of the ladder (and stay there) while this continues. Which looks to be indefinitely - I fully expect us to be tenth within a couple of weeks.

Without Rojas tonight, Victory wouldn't have won 3-2 tonight....that is the bottom line. He was the diference.
Both defences were a bit shaky tonight but 2 pieces of brilliance from Rojas were the difference between the 2 sides tonight.
I agree with Militiamon in that as a supporter you have to be pleased with the effort and display put on by the boys instead of just being negative and saying that we lost again and bagging them out. The 2nd half was probably the best we've played all season ....we just lacked that individual brilliance that Rojas provided the Victory.
One gripe I do have is how long is GVE going to play Ryan as a makeshift No. 10???
Either he changes the formation and puts Ryan up alongside Heskey as a 2nd striker or he puts in Ribeiro or Bridges who can genuinely play that role.
For someone to play that role they need to be able to open up defences with neat little through balls or to be able to hold the ball in tight situations....Ryan does not have those qualities, he is suited as a No. 9 or out wide.

You're wrong MFKS, the players costing us aren't "inexperienced". That's not why Mitchell and Galloway are doing poorly.

Galloway may well be a hack of the highest order and Mitchell is probably the worst player in the squad and that includes James Brown Jesic and Galloway but neither of them are why we lost tonight. Poor finishing from us and 2 screamers from Rojas are what done us

Watch Galloway let Thompson go and score the second. Watch him turn the ball over time and time again.'watch him be out of position and catch us short across the back.

Whole 'defencive' line is honking.

Nah to be fair it's probably Brown that's the biggest hack in the squad. But Galloway royally f*cked up for Thompson's goal.
Poor finishing? We scored 2 goals. That should be enough. The attack is doing their job so it's about time that our fragile, hack of a defensive line stands up and delivers something as well. The buildup for the winner from Rojas was due to our defensive players being out of position and scrambling. Happens time and time again. Same old sh*t.

Galloway is just another in a long list of HAL defenders who have let Rojas or Archie get away with the same move.

To be perfectly fair the biggest issue with that goal wasn't Galloway letting Archie get away from him but whoever it was that gave the ball away to Celevski on about halfway and that was what caught Ritter out and let Rojas get away. Once Rojas was away the damage was done. Not Galloways shitful marking

MFKS:

I've only seen highlights all season, so can't comment on general style of play (though I note that very few, if any, of our goals have been scored as a result of the sort of football that reflects van Egmond's "philosophy"). Still, the fact is that the table doesn't lie. We've conceded 26 goals in 13 games and have the second-worst defence in the league, beaten to the dubious honour of most porous back line by only a single goal. (Well done to the blue shite down the road for winning that contest so far.) A team that concedes 2 goals per game clearly does have a "f*cking woeful" defence - and there is a reason that electric players like Rojas pull out quality strikes against us much more easily than against the likes of the Mariners, Perth, or Western Sydney.

You talk about our "shithouse" finishing, and say that all our first half chances should have been going in. Okay. Maybe. But look at the young blokes who missed the chances: Adam Taggart, James Virgili, Connor Chapman, etc. These guys simply don't have the quality of guns like Rojas, Rogic, Mooy and so on, who ultimately make all the difference in this league. Our only young 'un who could legitimately be mentioned in the same breath is Goodwin, and the onus to carry the team should not be on him alone. My point is that if we had made more intelligent signings (something we never do), particularly in terms of recruiting guys with a much sharper eye for goal, then we might be a bit more lucky in these games where our "poor finishing" ends up costing us - another thing, I would stress, which happens every bloody week.

Let's be honest: this club has never been renowned for signing or developing consistent goalscorers. Under current management, it probably never will be. Combine that with what is obviously a very poor defence, and you have a recipe for disaster. It's 2008/09 all over again.

Most HAL teams have one or two elite players or those type of players who decide results. Two out of the three MV guns showed pure class when it counted tonight. I was happy to see the team battle all the way to the final whistle.

mlb were a class above us in the 1st half. 2nd half they seemed to invite us into the competition and we def outplayed em. Didnt think we had any bad players just that their guns fired. We should have too much for Heart if defenders are switched on for their counter...unless of course Gary changes the team again and starts Brown and benches Goodwin etc.

So what about 2nd phase play or even 3rd and 4th. Let Rojas sit in the corner with the ball. The defender was close enough to assert pressure to contain him if no support was a option. You never let your man between you and goal at any stage, hence why in this cause his poor and utter friggen shit defending and being caught out of position cost us a goal. Thompson put it away after he left Galloway for dead, if he was man marked or Galloway did his job the result may had not been the same.

Yep , been thinking same since Ribeiro has been getting SFA opportunities. A valid question and would really like to know why at least two of these blokes are not getting a decent chance.

More so Ribeiro, signed on during GVE's watch.

Very hard to have a constant defence when one player cannot play due to injury. Or would you rather a bloke out there who cannot run?

As for the players, as long as they impress in training and the matches they should be playing unless GvE has another reason for not playing them.

This game is about taking chances and it is a slightly different ball game when Goody/Chapo etc put them in the net in the first half and give us the 1-0 lead.
Anyone who thinks that Victree were brilliant in the first half needs their head read. Birraz made 1 save from Archie and obviously conceded the 2 goals but had **** all else to do. In the second half he came out once to shut Archie down and conceded the Rojas jaffa to win the game. Other than that he was pretty quiet.

I have to say, I agree as well.

Its easy to crucify a defender because a mistake often leads to a goal. Make one mistake in a game and your down 1-0.

A striker misses a few chances and somehow its just unlucky, a good chance or overlooked, but those misses are as costly as the error at the back that lead to the goal.

We played well last night and it actually gave me hope for the remainder of the season. I couldn't have said that the last few weeks.

Does unless the Gypos win and then we will just pretend it never happened!!!

Plague I just feel we are where we are because that's where we are at. I don't understand the whole its GVE's team we should be firing on all cylinders now when most of our squad are novices at this level. It's not like GVE went out and bought a bunch of proven stars. The only bloke we got of note was Heskey. Mitchell and Neville have never been world beaters Ritter and Barnardo are unknowns and the rest of our signings Goody Brillante Taggz etc are ones for the future.

My expectations for this season were top 6 and top 4 if we can get on a bit of a run. I feel we will still achieve the top 6 aspect of it and if we can get a back half of the season run together we can make Top4. Lets remember we were in a similar spot this time last season and we went into the final game in 6th place. Our form in the second half of the season last year wasn't world beater either.

I am happy we are tracking upwards and starting to get shitty with some of the clowns out there who wish to sack the coach everytime we have a loss. Delusions of granduer if you think we are gonna be there seriously when the whips were cracking this season.

Success on the pitch comes from consistency on /off the pitch. This pre season has been probably the most stable the Jets have ever had. After the HSG handing back licence shenanigans the squad was able to have a solid scandal free and settled squad pre season for the first time ever. Instead of building on this solidity some ****ers wish to throw the baby out with the bath water.

There is a reason why clubs such as Man Utd Brisbane Broncoes Gypos etc are successful and we can start no further the search than looking at the common denominator of a coach who has the backing of his fans/supporters

Then we can look at the likes of Liverpool Chelsea Sydney FC who constantly change coaches and wonder why they get little to NO success.

We made a decision when Branko got rid of Chulina and that was to reinstate the EGG. Whether this decision is right/wrong is irrelevant it is high time we saw it through and got our club the consistency we never ever have.

I don't get what "We made a decision when Branko got rid of Chulina" means but in essence I agree pretty much what MFKS is saying.
However if we were to finish 7th or worse I would deem this season to be a failure.
I remember back in 2007 when we lost the likes of Carle, Okon, Milton, Coveny etc. and at the start of season 3 of the HAL there were no great expectations because we had a lot of new faces and young places. The general thought was that we were re-building for the future.....all of a sudden we're in the Gf and we win it!!!
I just can't see that happening this season, there are still some pieces missing to the overall jigsaw....maybe 2 or 3 at the most. Maybe those "missing pieces" are already there but are yet to come to fruition. I would be happy if we were to finish 5th or higher (6th would be ok just to get finals experience for the young players), keep the nucleus of our squad, build on that and give the top four a real shake next season.
