Two away trips to Perth in the space of 6 weeks? Great for me, not so good for the team...

Nice work boz. Only four Sunday fixtures and two are at home. A change from the days of sweltering in the Eastern stand on Sunday afternoon/evenings.

I've also put the draw into the Calendar on the forum - just click on the "Forum" button up the top (next to "What's New?"), then Calendar and you'll find all the fixtures

I'm not sure how many other formats I can put the draw into - I'm considering a Stonehenge style sundial thingy on the unused courts at the tenzo but it might be difficult with the winter solstice already gone and the summer one not occurring until we play Sydney at home

Time for a new thread?

Anyway - Jets first trial is against Plattsburg, 26th June.

Not in the news yet, but i have information confirming the second trial will be against University ZPL. What i sure hope is the start of an annual 'Ray Watt Darby'.

6 a side tournament, plattsy, uni... no offence to the mighty plattsy and uni clubs but ffs this club becomes an even bigger joke every day

Q Man maybe these two trials are favours returned to Plattsburg and Uni clubs.???

After all the Jets train at Ray Watt and them being there at times may cause issues for Uni and them running their club as they see fit.

Also from what i am aware the Emerging Jets have been training at times at Plattsburg as the Jets don't have a ground of their own for their junior teams.

Maybe a bit of buttering up the people for their hospitality.

wait, what?

what happened to the overseas trip and harder preseason opposition etc? i hardly think the 6aside tourny can be considered a serious preseason effort.

jerks usually walk over state league clubs, the only time the games are remotely close are against magic or the select. they walked over weston by 7 or so a year or two ago. what exactly do they have to gain by not only skipping nbn teams, but also skipping the "premier" competition of newfm aswell, to face zpl teams?

incase they haven't noticed - their youth team compete in nbn. they're better off facing their youth team multiple times than facing teams from comps that NNSW doesn't want anything to do with (aka the zone league comps).

dafuq is actually happening

edit: if it's to "return the favour" maybe they should at least host the nbn select game at plattsy/uni so those clubs get the money from canteen/etc. nothing will be gained from playing those clubs, unless it's a glorified shooting and constant possession practice (which they nearly get vs nbn teams anyway)

come on guys, GVE said we're having a slow build up in the teams we play, going from the easy beats (for a professional a-league team) to the truly tough harder-to-beats (for a professional a-league team) of the NNSW top flight.

this will fill GVE with a belief that we are doing alright and that we'll be up there for championship/premiership double provided we don't get injuries, have to travel, have to play at home, have to play three games in a week, have any players called up to the national teams or have bad referreeing.

we're a shoe in.

Agree with all of that bar one small piece, our club lacks any and all ambition, we don't aim to be in the top 2 let alone to win the championship, we aim to not finish in the bottom 40% of our leg, that is all.

Ah, but Branko had us playing NBN and NEWFM teams. Playing Zone League teams are better preparation for a professional league than NBN teams....

we're building up too fast. should be starting with the under 6's all-star team. nice easy game to build from, but they'll be tough opposition none the less and good practice for our boys.

i've been thinking about these games vs plattsy and uni..

the only explanation i can muster is they are continuing the whole 6aside thing. so the jerks will run out with 6 players, and plattsy/uni will have a full squad, on a full sized field.

Does it really matter who they are playing at this time of pre season??

Season is still over 4 months away. As long as they do enough fitness and tactical work pre season and play some quality opponents to offer a decent contest closer to the season does it really matter if they have a meaningless kick around against some Zone sides???

I can't see the problem either - training just started and a hitout against these sort of teams is better than umpteen intra club trials and 6 a sides.

As long as it ramps up to A-League level with time to spare it all looks good to me.

i reckon an intra club trial would be better.

inferior opp breeds bad habits and gives false confidence. Start with Bayern get beat 24-0 then play perth lose 3-0 doesnt feel so bad then.

Don't forget we are the undisputed kings of pre season friendlies with what 2 undefeated campaigns. Maybe the Egg wishes to solidify this record!!!

I agree playing stronger opponents where possible is best option. End of the day our blokes need confidence. Don't forget we are shit anyways. If we are taking any degree of false confidence from these outings then the players need their heads read.

I ain't overtly worried that we are playing these teams. What will irritate me is if we ain't playing at least minimum 4 games against HAL opponents or the mythical foreign teams HSG have promised and failed to deliver

We don't want to play too many HAL teams they're likely to work out our TACTICS before season start :gent:

A wise man once told me "if you wander down the same road you end up in the same spot".

I didn't get a chance to have him explain it as he took a different path and I never saw him again.

I guess there's something in that for all of us.

we'd probably beat bayern 1-0 from a shinned jesic volley and then lose to perth 24-0

Actually may not be too bad an idea. Would mean that our players would have to be a lot quicker on the ball.

Or Biraz would just be pumping long balls all game.

I see where you are going there.

On another note we can't beat 11 players with the ref and the bounce of the ball on our side.

Why bother playing 22??

Aren't the jets gonna get tired on the 3rd of July game??

Half the team/ the coaching staff and management will have to play in the curtain raiser for the team with disabilities and then front up for the main match with Lakes
