so it looks like the plan to have ten team competitions isn't going to go ahead

Any reason given?
We had 10 in our grade last year and from a selfish point of view we loved it as the extra games meant we came 1st instead of 3rd (we had a slow start). We also had a lot of good teams and the 2 best we played didnt even make the semis. Plus we got to play extra games which is always a good thing (more trips back to the pub).
Also, thanks for reminding me, gotta pay rego today.

this is from the email sent to clubs yesterday

Afternoon,

As a result of this week’s Joint Board meeting, agenda item 10 Team Comps, it has been decided due to the lack of data from the recent survey in support of 10 Team Comps (played without a break) to not introduce any changes in the process for 2013.

If a 10 team grade is necessary due to nominated numbers the fixtures will be based on the 8 team playing dates (breaks for long weekends etc.) with any extra matches scheduled for midweek or double headers as is necessary.

It is intended to format a more comprehensive Survey via Sporting Pulse email communication to all players within this category both Male & Female. This will be scheduled for midseason.

so blame your club for not responding to the questionnaire, not the association

plague
09-02-2013, 09:53 AM
oh dude im the last person to ever lay blame for any of this stuff. Pretty sure our club would have given feedback as our team was asked to give their opinion (due to the fact we played that format last year).
Ive been pretty lucky that the clubs I've played for have always been very well organised. Am just grateful that we get to play football every weekend.

Clearly the blame lies with Tony Abbott/Carbon Tax/Budget Surplus...................

They are a great team, smashed us in a big way (no need to put the score up). Every little mistake we made in the back was punished and in the last 10-15mins they just steam rolled us.

We still have a number of players to come back in, but it wouldn't have changed the result in a big way. Talking to a few people in other O35 A teams I think other than Westy we should do OK. Definitely get punished for your mistakes a lot more than C Grade though.

Unfortunately due to ground maintenance by Lake Macquarie City Council, Round 1 and Round 2 games at Charlestown and Lake Macquarie Jnrs, and some Round 1 and Round 2 games at Kahibah Oval have had to be postponed.

Gresford went up to C grade and were competitive (apart from one game v Dudley, the eventual premiers). Only won a handful but had a thousand draws. We were crueled by injuries...have a couple of guys half way through what's probably going to be a 2 yr stint on the sidelines with ACL's and broken legs, a couple more who probably won't be able to play again, a couple to coaching ZPL and FYL, and some to work. That's the game, but still sucks.
Have brought up a heap from the u18's so just trying to find the right grade to blood them into All age without scaring them off.
It's a shame because being a small club, it was good to see bigger clubs come out to "the middle of nowhere" expecting an easy kill only to be sent home with, tail between legs. It's a long way to come for a hiding ;) . Ah the glory days.

Good one spamg172, saw you guys had a loss on the weekend. WTF! I'm expecting big things from Gresford this year. Haha! Love playing you guys. Always a laugh.
Cardiff thought the same thing with us on the weekend. They had 20 players, we had 10 started the game with 9. Raked in a P grade player to help out. We scored the easiest goal I've every seen. Didn't even tap the ball over the line just let in roll in end over end uncontested. Very funny.
Ended up 2-2 but we had most of the ball. Could have gone either way. They tried to bully us until they realised we had 3 westy boys and some old school defenders. TBH they ended up happy with a draw so did we but very beatable team Cardiff. Mark them tight up front they like the long ball. Also their kepper thinks he is Buffon. You'll see what I mean.

Cooks Hill United H grade wrapped up the minor premiership yesterday - pretty good season all in all, ten wins, one loss and one draw

looking forward to two meaningless games in the run in to the finals

Keeper to play striker, striker playing sweeper type deal?

boz-monaut
04-08-2013, 01:05 PM
sweeper and striker are to share goalkeeping duties, keeper to play striker

basically the entire team to be rotated 180 degrees

I was speaking to my mate, and he reackons who ever wins the minor premier is the association where the finals is held e.g thornton win minor the hunter valley gets there finals series does anyone know?

boz-monaut
08-08-2013, 07:29 PM
no that's completely incorrect - they decide the hosts well before the minor premierships are decided

which is why we now know where grand finals will be

the selection of hosts is done earlier in the year and is based on facilities

:rof: I actually had to ref that game as all the refs pulled up sore from the juniors games beforehand. I have no idea who usually inputs all ages results but I'll ask the question.

I know bolwarra were desperate for goals for goal difference, no idea if they would have gotten enough

Edit: it was 3-1 to bolwarra if that helps

no that's completely incorrect - they decide the hosts well before the minor premierships are decided

which is why we now know where grand finals will be

the selection of hosts is done earlier in the year and is based on facilities

I thought that which ever team was 1st at the half way mark than the association that the team was in hosted the grand final.
So if Warners bay was leading the 15a's than the 15a's grand final will be held by a Macquarie club.
If maitland was leading than it would be held by a hunter valley club.. Etc etc

ok some homework for you lazy forumites:

- go back to the ladders from halfwaythrough the season and work out if this theory that the leaders halfway through are the finals hosts
- go and look who has the fewest goals against and report back here
- go and look who has the most goals for and report back here
- go and see which team has accumulated the most points

off you go then

Does it all really matter, its not like anyone gets a home ground advantage. As long as the lights are better than our ground, I am happy.

Bring on friday night.

Anyone know what happened to the Magic player tonight against Westy in O/35 A grade at Valentine? Pretty much the entire first half was abandoned while waiting for an ambulance. Westy ended up winning 2-0.

Never good seeing an ambulance on the pitch and I hope whoever it was isn't having too rough a time.

We were on the adjacent field and got up 4-1 in penalties over Thornton (1-1 at full time and extra time).

Really enjoyable game in All Age M Grade between Cooks Hill and Mayfield.

Mayfield took the lead 3 times, with their first in particular a very tidy finish. But each time they took the lead, Cookers bounced back to equalise shortly after.

The result was sealed for Cooks Hill with a 4th 3 minutes from time.

Very entertaining game, played in great spirit. All 3 games against Mayfield have been good, clean, well contested matches.

Cooks play Azzurri next week.

After going through the whole regular season undefeated in AA/P Lake Macquarie finally lost a game, going down to Azzurri 4-1. In fairness, Azzurri were all over us and deserved to go straight through to the GF.

Big game against West Wallsend next weekend, hopefully we get back to winning ways as it would be a bloody shame to choke now after such a brilliant season.

Azzurri v Valentine in All Age N at Edgy was a interesting game.
A Bizarre Clearance from half-way from a Valentine Defender caused the ball to bounce just before the keeper, causing the keeper into confusion which led to him taking the ball over the goal-line putting Valentine up 2-1, then Azzuri scored with 5 mins to go.
Tight Game in the Extra-time which then led to penalties, Valentine getting up 3-1 with some brilliant saves from their Keeper!

Valentine looked really tight, probably shouldn't be in that grade, but a very interesting game.

Was a really tight match with both teams defending well.

Overall it was a good season for the team

Good to see cheating is alive and well in All Age. But for all games why do it in a GF and play under assumed name. Especially when your brother previously played with your opposition...

Strange game, but somehow Lakes went down to Azzurri 2-1 in the AA/P grand final. An own goal early on put us behind 1-0, and then after going the whole season without giving away a penalty we managed to concede two. They were vey soft and I think a case of the referee wanting to be the centre of attention, especially the last one (shielding the ball FFS). I saved the first one, but couldn't do the same with second and that was the winner.

Disappointing for us as Azzurri only had one actual shot on target all game, while we knocked on the door all game and the ball just wouldn't go in. That's football though!

finally we can annouce that Cooks Hill United have won the H Grade grand final

the 0-1 result on the day was overturned because Largs used a ring-in player

not the way anyone wants to win but it's good that Newcastle Football took our complaint seriously and accepted the overwhelming evidence

wow a protest that was upheld. How many players were ineligible?

I still cannot workout why in finals a photo ID cant be held up at the halfway lineup to check athenticity. takes 3-5 minutes if a liney and ref take a team each.

boz-monaut
17-09-2013, 12:56 PM
well we only noticed the one player who wasn't eligible, and he was only recognised because his brother used to play for us

and yep, agree about the photo ID - the information is all there on myfootballclub so it could simply be printed out on an A4 and brought to the ground

instead we had to provide photographs from the game showing his face and the number on his back

it's a pretty poor system when you have to prove all that after the game when an ID card would have prevented him taking the field in the first place and the game would have been decided on the day

farcical scenes after the game when said ring-in was recognised, hid his face and drove off without reciving a medal with the rest of his team - had to go to work was the story given at the time

but what really made me pursue all this was seeing them celebrating with their kids after the game - what sort of message does that send the youngsters that it's ok to cheat to win? in All Age H grade for crying out loud

q-money
17-09-2013, 01:07 PM
how come you don't do the ID card thing up in newy?

we do it every match in the CDSFA - no card, no play, the linesman walk up and down and take the cards before the match and hand them back at the end

:rof: at getting a ring-in for an H grade grand final, how desperate can you be

boz-monaut
17-09-2013, 01:30 PM
they phased ID cards out a few years back

the whole current process with registration through myfootballclub and the FFA, as well as sportingpulse is a little bit of a mess to be honest, but it is getting incrememntally better each season

there really is nothing stoping a club from registering someone under a false name, or changing the online photograph every time they want to use a ring-in

the whole fiasco could only be repeated if Stu had a brother and we had him fill in for us

then he'd have to run off after the game hiding his face, pretending that he had to go to work so urgently that he couldn't wait 5 minutes to recieve his medal

I'm afraid we have a higher ethical standard than that, also we're not that utterly stupid
