Police were not called to the incident but he has been fined and disciplined by the club.

NEWCASTLE Jets midfielder Ben Kantarovski will miss the rest of the A-League season after his jaw was broken in an off-field incident.

Kantarovski is understood to be facing surgery this week after he was allegedly punched while leaving an inner-city night spot in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 21-year-old, who was preparing to return from a knee injury that had sidelined him for three months, was fined and disciplined yesterday by Jets officials, who issued a press release but otherwise declined to comment.

In the statement, Jets chief executive Robbie Middleby was quoted as saying the team were disappointed Kantarovski had "ignored club protocol while in rehabilitation" but accepted nobody was more upset than the 21-year-old midfielder.

"Ben is aware he has let down the club, his teammates and all our members, fans and corporate supporters in a critical part of the season," Middleby said.

The statement said police were not called to the incident. It is understood the former Young Socceroos skipper contacted Jets officials on Sunday morning to tell them he had been injured in an altercation.

He denied he had been affected by alcohol but was fined an undisclosed amount by the club's disciplinary committee nonetheless.

Kantarovski's injury is another shattering setback for a player who once appeared to have the world at his feet.

He was a 16-year-old schoolboy when he made his A-League debut in August, 2008 – at the time, the competition's youngest-ever player. A year later he spent a week trialling and training with German giants Bayern Munich.

But a training-pitch mishap in December, 2010, left him with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. A full knee reconstruction was required.

Kantarovski recovered to lead Australia to the FIFA under-20 World Cup.

Last year he made two appearances for the Olyroos in their unsuccessful London Olympic qualifying campaign.

This season he managed only four games for the Jets before tearing the meniscus in his problematic right knee.

He resumed light training two weeks ago and had been hoping to return for the finals.

Is Kanta still contracted for next season, going to be out of the game for a long time with this latest injury, might need to push him back to the youth team to play the state league season.

iirc when hsg came in the first thing they did was re-sign him for 3 years or so.

yep, three years

"Broken Jaw"?
"Out for the season"?

Sounds like classic GVE. Kanta will start on Friday and be captain. Heart won't know what to do.
GVE is a goddamned jeenyus.

GVE is a goddamned jeenyus.

but that's exactly what they expect. they're expecting the unexpected, so we should leave kanta out and run with the expected.

gve - always three steps ahead

But The Herald troll the foz for stories and they will now know that this is the actual plan so Heart will expect it.

Play him at GK, that will confuse everyone.

gve will probably play one of kanta's brothers in his place. while at the same time changing all the squad numbers so alex kantarovski will be wearing number 1 but will be an outfield player.

jose mourinho will bow down to him. gve - the real special one.

on a related note - do i recall someone in the last few years change the teams squad numbers so the opposition were confused? was it an australian NT coach, who knew that the asian opposition they were playing against referenced our players by numbers, not names, because our names were too hard to pronounce/remember? so said opposition would say "watch out for the number 2, he'll mark you all day long" thinking it was lucas neill, whilst we had changed josh keneddy to number 2 & the opposition were super confused as to why he no mark them. or am i dreaming this happened?

Who was it?
If it worked, it was GVE.
If it didn't work, it was the players/fans/Tony Abbotts fault.

Seeing as he hasn't played much this season and at his age he may NOT be eligible for state league yoof team. No reason why he can't be loaned to Magic/Edgy /Olympic etc to get a few games under his belt when he has recovered

We may get a transfer offer for him :yay: as he finds his level

Question I would like to know is Victree had Milligan put under the knife for a knee issue and he is now back training and a possibility of playing this week meaning a missing time of around 3 weeks. Why is our bloke looking at 4-6 weeks on top of the 2 he already missed whilst the club procrastinated on what to do.

Just can't understand how an arthroscope with a bit of clean up work would have two such drastic outcomes between two different clubs

With our finances perhaps it was done by a first year on work experience rather than a ortho specialist

Are we sure Milligan actually had a knee issue? I thought some UAE team was lining up a transfer bid for him, could he have been held out of playing while a deal was in the works?

Bloke was dribbling on Foxsports the other week that he had surgery to clean up and issue so as to do it now and not inconvenience World Cup preparations. Has been missing from Victree games and I am sure they would have wanted him in there after two 5-0 losses on the bounce

We must remember, of course, that every single knee issue is identical and therefore there is a universal recovery time that every human must adhere to.

I'm with Porksey on this one, how do you know the injuries and surgeries were the same MFKS?

redwah

Could it be that this is the same knee that he has had reconstructed previously, which kept him out for a long time, which also rushed back from effectively putting his development back further....or could it be that MFKS is just generally unhappy at anything to do with the jets (except Griffos return and the general wellbeing of Kale).

I'd rather see him get it right in 6 weeks and be back long term than continually re-injuring it and being only available every now and then.
