Will watch but have to avoid the bogan, nationalistic fervour of Channel Nein....will stick with Fox, at least I will see some football (and handball) there.

I just hate spending an hour listening about "Aussie Heroes" who get a bronze in something, whilst a world record performance in a sport we don't care for is ignored.

And don't get me started on the opening ceremony, where Nein commentators will fap over the latest outfits the Aussies wear. "A wonderful shade of beige and green reflecting the colours of the Aussie outback....."

Foxtel has assembled an expert swimming commentary team including one of Australia’s most successful swimmers ever, Olympic gold medallist Susie O’Neill. She will be joined poolside by high profile sports journalist Rebecca Wilson, and 2GB Sydney radio host Ray Hadley, who will be calling the nail-biting action from the competition in the pool.

That is bogan central - a big pass on that commentary team !

I see Tracey Holmes has been exhumed again - she is never seen the rest of the four years.

It was in 1992 that the image of a celibate Games began to flicker when it was reported that the Barcelona Games' organisers had ordered in prophylactics like pizza. Then, at the 2000 Sydney Games, 70,000 condoms weren't enough, prompting a second order of 20,000 and a new standing order of 100,000 condoms per Olympics.

North Korea's first women's football match of the London Olympics was delayed for more than an hour on Wednesday after they refused to play in an embarrassing mix-up over national flags.
A source told AFP the team were angry after Hampden Park's giant screen showed images of North Korean players next to the South Korean flag before their match with Colombia.

Can somebody explain cycling to me in a nutshell.
I don't understand the whole team aspect. Like, to me I view it like swimming, if you're the best swim me, you race hard and win. Cycling seems to be a lot of, hmmm, i'll bludge here (bludge relative to their capability, i know they are powering on.), now i'll go fast for a while....slow back down.

The gist, I guess, why doesn't somebody say, ok, so, the last 10 winners of this race did it in 6 hours, 23 minutes and 15 seconds. So, if i can cycle the distance in 6 hours and 18 minutes, i should win.....

Showing how naive i am haha.

sammydog
28-07-2012, 09:22 PM
The reason they don't is that if you went out and treated it like a Time Trial, in all likely hood the peloton would pull you in well before the end. Groups of riders are faster than individuals over long distances, so if you go it alone its rare to stay away on a flatish course.

That said, with no radios on offer in the olympics for the teams, if the breakaway is organised they will have a bit more chance than usual.

Some teams also have sprinters as the only realistic chance of winning a race. For those teams, the important thing is protecting that rider until the end of the race.

Hopefully all these splinter groups from the main peleton **** up Team GB's hopes of unleashing Cavendish after he's freewheeled all the way to the final sprint! Gotta feel for Rogers now though - there's bunches going all the time and he got shafted with no one following him

sammydog
28-07-2012, 10:45 PM
2 mins won't be enough over the final 50km of flat, it'll be a bunch sprint finish.

Disinterested Bystander
28-07-2012, 10:54 PM
If that first chase group can reach the leaders they could potentially hold out - that'd be >10% of the field out front, plenty of nations represented so their compatriots may be happy to give their breakaway man/men a shot rather than help GB bring it all back together to allow Cav to demolish them all

sammydog
28-07-2012, 11:05 PM
I'd love to see the breakaway hold out, and there are some great riders in the group, I just can't see it happening.

Gap is now 1:25 to the leaders, so the leaders lost 35sec on that lap, still 2 to go till the 50km run to the finish.

I love it, a sprinter who bludges off his own team until the last 200m to take all the glory, has a whinge that another team didn't do enough to help him win.

While O'Grady was in the breakaway, why would Australia help GB pick up the pace? We had more chance of O'Grady going on with it than we did of Goss winning the sprint.

What was ****ing disgraceful though was Bernie Eisel jumping in the GB train and sitting in front of Cavendish. The poor **** forgot that he wasn't racing with Cavendish and Team SKY but actually against them and should have been doing more to help his Austrian teammates and himself to glory rather than setting up a slipstream for Cavendish as per normal. All Team GB needed was Mick Rogers and Richard Porte to jump in the leadout train and it would have looked like TEAM SKY had bought the ****ing race

What made it even more special is that 10kms out Team Sky sorry team GB had no chance despite Eisels help. Would have been a ****ing up roar if Cav had of won and one of his regular teammates had of appeared to be riding for Cav rather than his own country

Give them a fair go. They have been playing extremely well. They played two difficult games first up and outplayed those teams for the most part. The only issue has been poor perimeter shooting and if they had started with a couple of easier games to warm up they would have topped Brazil and given Spain a run as well. Hopefully they can sneak into 3rd so they don't face the dodgy Dream Team in the quarters.

lol baeden choppy ffs, he was a striker!

what i mean is, the rules, and the equipment are so far in advantage of the striker, it's ridiculous. with composite sticks, if your technique is good enough you can flick a ball at head level harder than you can hit it. i would want more than a mask tbh.

nothing has changed for the defender in the same period, really. (skip might be able answer this? has it?)

15+ years ago I got dragged into the school hockey team at the last minute to play keeper. I knew ZERO about hockey.

Coach got me to stand in goals while the guys practiced set moves from short corners, with only me in goals. I thought "**** this shit" and asked the coach if this was a joke...or if this short corner thing was like a penalty in soccer and the chances of having to face one in a game were pretty slim so I should just suck it up... I got told there was very little chance of it happening and that I should stop fretting. (****ing liar)

5minutes in, we conceded a short corner, and the defenders came running back into the goal, I thought to wish me luck.
I actually laughed all the way through the corner... The shot went wide... I was laughing cos I couldn't believe anyone would be so ****ing dumb as to elect to play a position in a sport where you have to defend in such a situation without any protection.

Hockey defenders are either the dumbest or bravest sportsmen in the world.

poor form MFKS - once you're in the green and gold you're no longer an enemy

So if Hutcho was representing Australia you would support him??

Didn't think so.

Gypo's are always Gypo's Never forget that

There's a difference between a Gypo scumbag like Hutcho and someone who lives south of Newy.
Some people are too poor to live in Newy. The little battler can't even afford a motor for his boat FFS.
Maybe once he gets back here he can sell his gold medal (before it gets stolen from his caravan) and move up here where it's awesome.

BUT

If there's ever any word or photos of him supporting those queer ****s down there he can **** right off and I hope his boat sinks and he gets eaten by a massive shark.

apparently he went to st. paul's high and lived in wangi wangi. gypo status is ambiguous.

Any association with the Gypos is only a stain on the blokes reputation. Needs to come out and rectify the situation with a Griffo tattoo on his flesh to clear the air.

Also I know Wangi Wangi is still outside Gypo borders but it is almost like a satellite Gypo community in Newy. Far too many down there who exhibit Gypo traits and qualities

Just to clarify, that's Nathan Outteridge your talking about there who is all Newy.

Tom Slingsby is the gypo (And FYI, he could be Hutcho's illegitimate son for all I care as long as he is winning gold for Australia!).

he's Maltese and represents Malta

your argument is invalid

but yeah, you're talking about outteridge/goobs there.

He only represents Malta because he isn't good enough for Socceroos and benefits from some relation of his from Malta which allows him to represent Malta because they are shit and need to scour the world for footballers.

Question is still relevant if the **** Hutcho was representing Australia would you support him??

Answer is still NO

hutcho is UnAustralian, he can not represent Australia, therefore your argument is invalid

if he were to represent UnAustralia I would boo him anyway
