34 year old right back Char Duri. What a run. That nutmeg.

Both team have been awesome tonight. The attack focussed play we have seen is the exact opposite of what I expected this tournament to be.

Awesome attack. Awesome keeping. Great match to watch

Wouldn't have been hard.

Bresc was that honking Ange would be hard pressed to pick him ever again.

I know the bloke has some skills our players don't but I just don't see how he fits in Ange's team at all.
Bresc plays very slow tempo where Ange plays a quick tempo game.

Ange has at least found a way to incorporate Timmy into his attack even if it goes against a lot of what he wants.
Can't really see him being able to fashion a role for Bresc and with the likes of Rogic (If he can get his shit sorted) De Silva Beard Antonis etc coming along Bresc odds on to be pensioned off in a weeks time anyway

I am only assuming the Japs will win because if they don't it is a bonus and all but guaranteed Final for us.

UAE do not worry me in the slightest as I feel they will park the bus against us and end up getting done over anyway like the rest of the Gulf nations have done when playing Australia.

Japan I respect and fear. They won't park the bus and will have a go at us and as I don't rate our defence I feel in Honda Kagawa Endo and co have the class to tear us a new arse hole

I am already assuming the worst as we may as well expect to play the superior side now and if we get the lesser side happy days

The more I've watched this tournament, the more it sinks into me that FIFA missed a golden opportunity to play the World Cup here. We would fill every stadium for every game. We're getting 5000 people to Bahrain v Qatar and 7500 when the socceroos were playing at the same time to a dead rubber match! Imagine if we had England, Brazil, Germany and Argentina coming out here!

This tournament has certainly surpassed my expectations and I'm really enjoying watching the matches. Teams are coming out and having a go at each other and playing some very entertaining football.

After the crap we Jets fans have endured over the last number of years, more-so recently, it's great to enjoy football again.

Fifa a missed a golden opportunity by not giving us the WC??

WTF You are pretty naïve here. FIFA are all about making money for themselves and their associates. No way in the world would they want a WC in Australia where the government are not gonna bend on laws. In Brazil and Sth Africa local laws were broken/bent that badly to exploit the country for FIFA's gain. They are still pissed about what happened in Germany where the locals wouldn't play ball.

No WC anytime soon is going to a Western Nation who has pretty firm laws that will not see the government easily concede to FIFA's demands.

It ain't about the crowds or the people. It is all about the money.

Crowds will go to the WC wherever it is on the planet. Qatar will be well supported regardless of the bullshit predictions the media make just as Russia will be well supported regardless of how the western media continue to demonise Putin and Russia for not bending over and taking it up the arse to accommodate US interests.

FIFA ain't missing anything by avoiding us. They actually will gain more by not coming here

I wasn't talking in monetary terms. Of course they went with the countries who filled their pockets the most.

For the good of the game, which FIFA don't have in mind, I'm saying they missed an opportunity to expand a growing market in Australia.

This Asian Cup is great and all, don't get me wrong, but I struggle to see how USA wasn't the best choice for 2022 tbh.

the only problem i have with this is the USA had the f**king world cup in 94.

England and Australia were the ideal choices IMO.

I understand the points made, and I agree it will more-than-likely be Japan progressing. Just feel it's disrespectful to write off anybody, especially at this stage of a competition.

Do we think Luongo will be a target for clubs following the AC? Where would you like to see him go?

He's been a target of championship clubs for over a year. Swindon knocked back a pretty sizeable bid last window and there were rumours of half of them being back in for him again before the Asian cup even started.

Cannot wait for Tuesday night. The biggest thing in this city since the Beckham match.

Jeterpool spot on yet again. World cup would have been huge here and i have also loved the football played. I have tried to watch every single game, have seen at least part of all of them.

I don't actually see what is to be gained at all holding a WC in England.

The code is popular enough anyway there so a WC ain't gonna boost anything there. All the best players play in England in their careers anyway whether that be in the EPL or UCL matches so it ain't like the locals need the opportunity to see the elite players anyway

Agree the USA should wait a bit longer for 2nd crack at it but the reality is sooner or later it will be back in Concacaf and your choices are Mexico who have held it twice Canada the USA and 30 odd other countries far too small to hold it.

Add in the fact the USA is a huge player in World Affairs can see why it would hold interest to get a better foothold for the code in the US landscape

I wasn't talking in monetary terms. Of course they went with the countries who filled their pockets the most.

For the good of the game, which FIFA don't have in mind, I'm saying they missed an opportunity to expand a growing market in Australia.

The thing that is also missed in this is even though Qatar is a small nation playing a WC in the Arab world is actually be expanding the game on a far greater scale than somewhere like us who are at the arse end of the world.

Not saying we wouldn't benefit but the Arab region will also benefit and are just as much deserving at holding a WC as anyone else. Unfortunately the criticism of the Qatar decision tends to overlook this and imply that area of the world are not deserving which is ohh so wrong

The other sad state of affairs is that unfortunately with world politics/security etc the way they are there are only a few acceptable locations to hold it in that neck of the woods anyway and FIFA at least chose one of the best options available anyway

Must admit I took a bit of satisfaction in telling a mate the tickets were sold out when he said on fb this morning something like, "don't normally like soccer but would be keen to see the socceroos, anyone keen?".
Thought Jedinak was abysmal in the first half, didn't notice him much in the second which means he was probably doin his job a bit better but far out, I reckon at least 50% of his short passes in the middle early on were either hospital passes or straight up intercepted, and he missed about his first 5 long balls as well as coming close to being sent with terrible tackling. Bresc was alright besides his shooting but yeah clearly doesn't have the engines to press, doesn't move it quick and can't really dribble either. Only spot for him to start would be as a second holding mid with Luongo in front probably, but Milligan and Jedinak (assuming he remembers how to play) would both be preferred in that role. Agree with whoever said he should come on as a late sub if at all. Milligan did look really good coming on and impressed against Korea as well, was kinda hoping he got subbed on at half time for Jedinak :whistling:

Hope we don't have that shit a start from here on in.. honkin for at least the first 20, a better team would have made us pay for that especially since our defense has not proved rock solid.

Russia is one of the biggest developing economies on the planet. Even though they were a world power in the USSR days and there lustre faded at the break up of the Soviet Union they are ever so slowly gaining their lustre again. Holding a WC will be a huge boon for their local game who lets face it under achieve something shocking with their NT at Confederation level let alone WC level as well as their clubs sides in the UCL do little also.

Add in the fact it will be the first WC ever for Eastern Europe as the rest have all been held in Western Europe.

I also don't think you are taking into account the hidden benefits of holding a WC which will see reduced barriers and increased trade to the Russian economy removal of stereotypes and perceptions of that neck of the woods as well as a huge boost to Russians who will think they can achieve anything in the world.

The English wouldn't gain **** all in this regard as they are all ready capable (Cricket and their NT withstanding )

New stadiums and facilities leave a legacy to the nation hosting it. Just cause England would not have to invest a pound in this doesn't mean they should host it. The thing comes around every 4 years and governments can get away with spending money on it so take the chance whilst it is available

As for Australia hosting a WC 2030 ain't happening.

Next cab off the rank is China in Asia

Then after that we need to worry about India/Indonesia and new bids from Japan and Korea.

Reality is we will be lucky to see the WC here before 2100 let alone in our lifetimes

2030 is pretty much locked into be in Uruguay as it would be 100 years since the first World Cup.
2034 is the earliest we can get it, though I fear Fifa will try something along the lines of what Europe are doing for the Euros and will spread it across Europe

Not Certain Uruguay in this day and age is a big enough place to hold it particularly on their own.

They only really have 1 city of note, a population of 3 million or so, their stadiums are well behind standards required and they don't have the wealth Qatar would have to throw at it to fix their issues.

Noble idea but can't see it happening unless it is a shared WC between them and Argies with maybe Brazil chipping in???

Other than Brazil or Argentina I wouldn't expect any other Sth American country to get it on their own these days.

Premy
23-01-2015, 05:31 PM
Asia has the 2022 so by "FIFA rules" another Asian nation cannot host another WC until 2034.

2026
America have it nailed down as Europe and Asia can't host and South America seem to be putting all their eggs in the 2030 basket.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2693508/Uruguay-favourites-host-2030-World-Cup-USA-line-2026-tournament.html

2030
You would be correct in the prospect of Argentina/Uruguay WC
http://www.argentinauruguay2030.com/?m=1

Chile wants to join in on the bid also
http://m.firstpost.com/sports/chile-joins-argentina-uruguay-expressing-interest-host-world-cup-2030-1787593.html

2034
Would be between Asia and Europe as no other African nation other than South Africa has the resources, infrastructure or money to do it, the logistics of a joint African bid will not come together quite well either. Europe would more than likely have the edge due to Asia hosting 2022.

2038
So with Europe hosting 2034 Australia will have to convince Asia to back them and not China, Japan, Korea, India ect no easy feat.

But knowing how FIFA works the price of Ice will go through the roof and Antarctica will buy the bids.

It's well known that Williams has a monster ego and as a coach, you had to remember to say how good he was all the time because as soon as you got on his bad side, he'd go out of his way to be extra harsh I'm his rulings on field against your team. All in relation to quieroz criticising him.

And while any of those things might be worthy of a yellow, his complete Graham Poll impression, not realising that he'd already booked the guy for an absolute nothing challenge early on is the real problem. Complete lack of awareness, complete attention seeking Williams at his best.

Sounded like some good objective criticism from a failed coach.
Shame I missed it.

As for him forgetting the 2nd yellow, that's the only thing he got wrong and should be singled out for it (it wasn't as bad as Polls tho).

****ing fantastic!

that was a bloody roller coaster.

first off, second yellow was completely right, but i don't think he would have given it had he realised he'd already booked him. took about 6 iraqi players to remind him. i didn't see the first yellow, but then i don't know if anybody did! will need a replay.

how many yellows did he hand out in the end? every time he gave one out i was thinking 'he must be already on a yellow'

penalty decision was spot on when i saw it live. we have side on seats (on the goal line) and i can't believe he didn't get a card for it. it was terrible.

geez the pens were an amazing contest in themselves. two misses in the first two shots and then, what 12? before another miss.

crowd were brilliant, that's the downside of the iranians being out, but hopefully a bigger iraqi crowd in sydney.

horns still going outside.

oh, and ben williams is a dick. told him to go back to state league (how good am i :D) after he stopped the play to deal with the iranian player that was down in the box when iraq were busting down the wing towards them. iran hadn't kicked it out even though he had gone down 2 minutes earlier when they were on the attack. then the iranian player kicked it back to the iraqi keeper from 5 metres from the defensive 18 yard box.

Dear UAE and Japan. Please go and wear yourselves out. I mean completely run yourselves into the ground. Leave nothing in the tank. Sincerely, Australia.
