I think the Jets should be looking for:
1. An experienced, solid central defender
2. A good right winger
3. A defensively solid left back
4. A creative attacking mid
5. A clinical finisher (Griffo type)

What do people think?
Does anyone know what players from other A-League clubs that contracts are expiring at the end of the season?

Has BK been re-signed?

Out of those we should get Rojas or R. Garcia (although we probably won't be able to get Rojas), M. Thompson and Matt Ryan

Yep, I think there was an article about Bridges becoming an Australian citizen a month or so ago. He said something like if all goes to plan he should be an Australian citizen before the start of the next season.

Not that it really matters anyway, 'sif we'll make good use of all our foreign spots.

I'd look at from within the comp:

Jurman (CB)
Thompson (LB)
Garcia (RW)
Liam Miller (CAM)

I believe during the season when Birraz was just starting to cement his spot as Newy No 1 HSG entered into negotiations with BK and ended up resigning him for another year or so.

Why I have no idea but it must be remembered this lot didn't want Lord Griffo, signed josh Mitchell and inflicted GVE on us so they have a track record for bizarre decisions

Unless he pulls in an Aussie from overseas ie Cornthwaite DeVere Wilkinson Ogdenovski etc the only realistic option will be a foreigner. None of these blokes on the list are experienced enough let alone good enough for what we need

what about someone like ian harte as an experienced left back who can probably also play in the middle?

not getting game time at reading, is off contract and probably knows bridgey from the leeds days. could sign him on non-marquee money i imagine.

Isn't he nearly a thousand years old? If we thought Chapman got caught out for pace, surely Harte is at least half as slow again. No thanks.

One a little out of left field. Wouldn't mind if we picked up that Adrian Zahra bloke who Mus**** injured a few years ago. Has only just got back playing this season and feel he may possibly turn into a great buy value wise as he wouldn't break the bank in wages and may come good again

He traveled over with there youth team this year and played in a very bizarre game where we lead at HT 3-1 and ended up getting beat 6-4. I personally thought he was very lazy in defense he played in the wide roll ands that's a position where you can not forget to track. Still his got age on his side might be worth it if he comes on the cheap I feel we already have enough options in that area with the likes of tagz, goody, chilli and Hoole

I agree to on this True Waterboy Goodwin at LB Chapo and new Centre back. Would move Zads to right Back though. Has the engine to get up and down flank/ more than comfortable playing there and also feel our Central Midfield needs resolving if we are gonna continue to play this passing game. Zads to me ain't the man we need in this role and we should look to move him where he can be of use to us and also free up spots in the centre of midfield so the signings we require can be made. Also will mean Scott Neville will never play for us again if this is done!!

Actually expecting us to sign someone like Riquelme or Ronaldinho only for them not to get a run since they don't put enough in training, no engines and we have better options in their position.

Why spend 300,000 on a proven number 10, when you can spend 1/3 of that on an unknown and sit him in youth league all year.

Yus, got our man! Joey Gibbs signs with the Jets!!!!!!!

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/newcastlejets/news-display/Jets-sign-Joey-Gibbs/67158

The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets have signed striker Joey Gibbs for the 2013/14 A-League season.

Gibbs joins the Jets after making 13 appearances and scoring two goals for A-League Premiers Western Sydney Wanderers during the 2012/13 season.

After coming through the Sydney FC youth team, Gibbs made his senior A-League debut as a substitute for the Sky Blues in the 2009/10 Grand Final against the Melbourne Victory.

The 20-year-old has also previously had stints with New South Wales Premier League Clubs Manly United and Marconi Stallions.

“I’m very excited to have signed with Newcastle,” Gibbs said.

“Newcastle is a football town and I’m looking forward to playing in front of these fans.”

Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said the signing of Gibbs would bolster the Jets’ forward line, which already features former English Premier League strikers Emile Heskey and Michael Bridges as well as Young Socceroo Adam Taggart.

“Joey adds a bit of extra depth to our squad, especially in the attacking third,” Middleby said.

“Although he’s only young, Joey has experience at A-League level from his time spent with Western Sydney Wanderers last season and also from having played in a Grand Final with Sydney FC.

“We’re pleased he has decided to join the Jets and everyone at the Club is looking forward to working with him over the course of the coming season.”

Gibbs said part of the appeal of joining the Jets was the chance to learn from the likes of Heskey and Bridges on a daily basis.

“Some of the boys at this club who play in the position I’m in, such as Heskey, Bridges and players like that, I can learn from them and the experience they have will help me,” Gibbs said.

“I’m 20 years old and everyday at training I’m looking to learn. If I’m surrounded by players like that, with the experience they have, I really think I’ll grow.”

Gibbs will link up with his new teammates at training this week before flying out to Singapore as part of a 10-man Jets squad that will compete in the Singapore Soccer Sixes tournament this weekend.

CLICK HERE to find out more about the Singapore Soccer Sixes.

“It will be good fun and a good opportunity to get to know the boys and know what Gary wants for this season,” Gibbs said.

“Even though it’s a six-a-side tournament, I’m sure we’ll be competing seriously and trying to win, so it should be very enjoyable.”

Building for the season after next, sounds like something GVE would do.

Can't get bosnar cause he's too expensive, here's an idea aus marquee, decent players do cost money, but never mind we can waste salary cap and squad spot on Gibbs.

Why not just promote the newy boy in Kale to the first team, he's even younger then Gibbs, GVE must have wanted an experienced player so opted for Gibbs.

Gibbs the new Jesic, worse then the old one, at least Jesic was no gypo.

Right then, so Ritter, Jesic, Ribz and Ryan left. I'm assuming Gibbs is a straight swap for Jesic, except for way less money (a squaddie that people will howl about he's not being given any chances), so he'll be on minimal wages.

So that leaves 3 places, definitely 2 international spots (maybe 3) and an Australian Marquee. There should be plenty in the kitty to make a splash.

We still need a CB, a #10, and a top winger. Doesn't leave the club much room, especially if for some ****ing reason we sign Musualik (Zad, Koala, Pepper, Regan, Oxborrow, Chapz, Kanta all can play in the same spot). The next signings have to be top class, otherwise its another season of mediocrity.

we'll sign Stu, GVE will then play him as a CB, then relegate him to the bench and eventually the youth team.

Just wish they would splash the cash for Bosnar, can defend, plays out, is experienced, Aus marquee material.. maybe, can take a free kick (wow what will that be like having some actual danger around the box). I'm sure we'll get all that from some random bloke who we eventually want to scrap after 12 months anyway, he'll be our "x factor". At least with bosnar we could have some fire works between him and GVE when the season inevitably goes to shit, would at least keep the Herald and foz ticking over in these dark days.

14-05-2013, 08:16 PM
Just think how it would be being a local lad in the youth team and how you would feel every time this club signs another young player for the senior team!!!
This whole "connecting with the local community" is a farce. From the moment last year about 12 months ago when Oxborrow and Cooper were signed on "apprentice" contracts for the Senior squad instead of the likes of locals like Hoole and Bradbury, to the bringing in of Sydney boys like Ilic (he's gone now), Pavicevic, Pepper etc. in preference to our lads coming through NSWIS and local clubs it's obvious that what the club says and what it actually does are two completely different things.

Thomas477

You are dead set taking the piss about passing backwards.

We are the only team in the world that could be 4 on 2 in the opponents penalty box and 15 seconds later Birraz has the ball in our own ****ing box.

I can admit to playing the absolute shiz out of all the PES versions on the Wii minus the latest one. It was genius.
I played PES 2013 on PC recently and while the graphics and extra game modes were a novelty at first, I ended up just getting too frustrated with the controls being so inferior to what I was playing on my peasant Wii years back.

PS Is Xenoblade worth getting? I was thinking about buying it to kill some time post-exams.
