my summation of the first half in a player-by-player sum-up:

schwarzer - usual self
wilkshere - not so certain about. doesn't provide anything explosive going forward, but has put in some decent crosses (and lots of shit ones)
neill - impressed with him. working really hard, covering for og a lot
og - weak point. basically just standing still the entire game, and letting the japanese just round around him
mckay - looks lost. the left side of him and og will be our weakness and i won't be surprised if we eventually get broken down through them
milligan - not looking comfortable on the ball at all. bresc is doing a fair bit of his defending
bresc - trying hard, getting outplayed while defending. like i said above, too old for this shit. looks good when given that little freedom role to pop up for a volley or shot or something, but really needs someone to do his defensive running for him
kruse - starting to make some really nice runs. looks a bit hoffman-esque with the ball though - has all the pace in the world but is scared a bit
holman - i'm rating him. very confident on the ball and providing some nice passes. we need him to be defending less and attacking more as he's basically our second striker.
oar - started a bit off, but i think that was due to the instructions he had to deliver the ball early. looking good when pushing past his man. delivery needs a lot of work in crossing.
cahill - haven't really noticed him. the japs are double-defending him as they know he's such a threat, but even when he gets the ball it seems everyone is really far away from him and he's not getting much support. the only reason he's up there is lolger is expecting wilkshere or oar to whip in a cross for him to head in, but i'm not sure we're going to get the right delivery today.
