Neymar's staggering stuttering run up..... Is that legal?

Was always taught that once you start you must maintain forward movement in your run up.

Edit:that can be super slow mo, as long as you are moving forward towards the ball.

Have you seen the footage of the bloke who deliberately trips over in his run up then gets up and slots the ball, all whilst keeping forward momentum.

Pretty gutless way to take a open tbh. The odds are stacked heavily in penalty takers favour already.

(I know: penalty kicks to decide a game..no such thing as a shootout in the laws of the game)

No.that would be silly.
I'd rather a striker have to bear the keeper by how well he performs the skill of kicking the valley, not how good his impression of John Cleese is.

Its hard to hate that US team, they just fight so bloody hard! They approach games with almost an aussie type attitude!

pv4
02-07-2014, 10:40 AM
I find it hard to hate that US team solely because of Klinnsman & Dempsey. Really thought they'd get over Belgium this morning, a bummer they didn't.

Going into the WC I was supporting Australia, Croatia & Switzerland. All my teams are out now!

France and Netherlands on their day I wouldn't bet against, Colombia seem to be cruising but they're up against the Referees next game, and Germany just have that quality and I kind of see this German team as being 4-8 years in the works, and practically being their Golden Gen. I'll probably predict Netherlands to win it, but those 4 teams are the ones that I fancy the most to go on.

Crazy, who would have thought a Falcao-less Colombia and a Ribery-less France would be two of the best teams in the comp.

parksey
02-07-2014, 11:30 AM
i don't like the usa because they're the usa and also because, for some reason, i feel like they're direct competitors to us in terms of growing football nations. seeing them make the knock-out stage while we crash out in the group is not my cup of tea.

Rocknerd
02-07-2014, 12:27 PM
Found myself cheering on the US today, they did well to hold of the Belgiums for so long. I thought for sure that the USA has piped them in the 89th minute with that slice in front of goal.

Also I hate Fellini, useless footballer who can't jump without throwing his arms around and needs to shave his head.

Jetmaster
02-07-2014, 12:52 PM
A trend that the smaller nations are close to the bigger ones - the thing is when they have a go they look highly competitive, but so many times in the Round of 16 they have dropped deep and paid the price in the end.

No idea Wilmots chump. fair enough if its 0-0 but to go nowhere for 60 mins then finally have a go at 0-1 retarded. Players werent making the obvious passes which normally lead to chances and there were many. Underestimated clever cynical argy in tourny football. Could also say that Arg played the game perfectly to match inferior opposition.

had to FF through the Argies stoppages not as bad as the col bra game. FF through more than 30 mins of free kick time. Kompany Debruyne very good, Lakakau made a great impact. Di maria big loss if missing final.

It's being praised as genius....... **** that......

Use another sub to shape the game and win in normal time and save all your players 30 minutes more work
Or use the sub in extra time to shape the game and win it to save your team the emotional exhaustion of the shoutout.

He could have had one less player going into the semi with 120minutes run out of their legs.

World cup show spot on re Brazil tactics. Destroy the rhythm and not create it.

My thoughts too

Lost among the hyperbole and sense of mourning over the loss of Neymar to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, is the uncomfortable reality that the host nation may have brought it upon itself with its continued and controversial use of 'tactical fouling'.

Cant help but think Netherlands are going to win the whole thing and Aussie media will love the fact that we pushed all the way and should have beaten the world champions. Just like 2006, italy and all that.

Its real weird, I grew up watching football with my heroes being blokes like Bergkamp, Gullit, van Basten, de Boer, Koeman, Overmars etc, and every World Cup I would support the Netherlands and be thinking that it was their turn, and every WC they would fail..
This is the one World Cup where due to their thuggery in the centre of the park and diving in the box (we all know who I'm talking about) that I actually don't want to see them win..

Pass around between back 3 for a while and then try to kick it to Robben. If it doesnt go to Robben kick the shit out of the opposition.

I just have a feeling about them.

There defence has kept 3 clean sheets in the knock out phase and really hasn't seen much action for their keeper

Germans got there share yesterday

Not to mention that little no 10 has been quiet. Bloke has the ability to turn it on at the big stage

This is a big thing, at the start of the tournament i heard alot of people saying Argentina wont win because thier defence is shit. I didn't disagree, i thought it would be there biggest weakness. Im tending to disagree now!

Also germany hit such a high against brazil, it can be hard to back that up.

They have had a bit of an easier draw. Just doing enough to win games.

However I agree that Germany would be on such a high and may struggle to back it up. Hoping for a German win.

Hello peeps

Doin' a bit of reminiscing lately over the last 4 weeks and I found this UToob clip...
Check out a younger Les!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7QSQ_j8F0Q

1990 was the first World Cup I watched...I mean actually watched live! I'm talking about 45? odd of the 52 matches.
Being on the rock'n'roll helped with a 'gap year' after my apprenticeship ended (in 1989) and I used to set up a dicky digital timer with my CRT telly plugged into it.
SBS was spot on even back then with their airing times...as they still are.
I was greeted by a smiling Andy Pascahlidis with his porn moustached mug before most matches. The theme song was like an alarm clock.
SBS had a knack for using good music for football. I loved when they used 4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5wI_ZdhdYs&feature=kp) - (The Cruel Sea - This is not the way home) and it turned me on to their music.

So...got a question. At 9' into the clip the song changes after the Ciao & whistle to the bouncy little ditty until 26' and I'm bum fluffed if I know who wrote it.
I have a sneaking suspicion it's from some quirky band like Talking Heads. Can anyone help?
Bonus:- Nipple slip 28' lol

43' - didn't know Scolari was a ref back then !

Ah great memories - do have much of that still lying around on VHS here awaiting digitisation. During that WC SBS started the tradition of having the daily show from a live location - in this case Les and Johnny would be in some beautiful Italian garden somewhere in the sun, once they had a report from an Italian restaurant whilst dining with Craig Johnston.

Talk about class - here is their France 98 intro...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4pwn4njZ9s

For all of their faults, Les and his team have changed coverage of football in this country for ever.

Could you ever see Channel Nein doing anything as classy for their Origin coverage?

Great posts, memory lane time!!!
My lasting memory of SBS was France '98 when after the final Les and Johnny looked like they'd run 6 marathons. They gave each other a massive 'dude shake' and Les turns to camera and says "Viva Le France".
I can only imagine they went outside, smoked a big cigar and slept for 3 days.

Ha - just quickly looking at their book and just before that final show there was chaos and old JW had lost it with everybody and was walking out. He had been to the final, seen his precious Brazil lose and come back on a Metro "full of pissed Pommies having a farting competition". Les calmed him down and Johnny said "I'll do it because you are my friend and understand. The rest of them can get f******!!!!".

Highly likely they consumed a bottle of Grand Marnier afterwards.

It's in the rules if contact continues into the box a penalty can be awarded.

So glad Germany won.
Argentina have been boring as f*** to watch all Cup, just scraping through their games with 90th minute goals. Probably deserved to make the final 4, but not much else.
And Messi for Golden Ball? ffs. Suppose it would've looked bad if they gave it to Ronaldo.
Agree with thoughts that Robben was a better candidate. Rodriguez, Shaqiri, Neur, Mueller were all above Messi for me.

On Messi, I think he proved a fair few of his critics wrong (myself included) with his performances at the World Cup. He needed to perform and lift his side through, similarly to what Ronaldo does with Portugal, which he did. But as far as a 90 minute effort goes, he was pretty lacklustre. FIFA trying to write the history books as he will go down as player of the tournament.
