Because of the varied age group on the forum, it would be interesting to hear the two bands that they could take a box set to heaven with them if they fell off the perch today. It could help us all to broaden our horizons.
Because I'm an old fart, I'm taking Steely Dan and Pink Floyd

IF I had to listen to nothing but Silverchair for all eternity I think that would be hell.
Surely you could pick the Porkers if you must be going all sentimental and Novocastrian.

BNL are the most celebrated Canadian alt-rock band of the mid-90s, you selfish jaded ass!
(Note: Rocknerd at least should get this reference)

Rolling Stones [Pre 1973]
The Who
Edit: Crap, I'd already posted on this last year.
I'm suprised nobody has mentionsed Led Zeppelin or David Bowie. Both have solid catalogs of very good albums rather than the standard three hits the rest filler type of releases we see post 1975.
I would like to add 2 more artists to my list. Not necessarily bands, but two singers:
Ian Kenny
Paul Dempsey
Srs - I could listen to those two men for a thousand years

Oh, okay, they're BNL now? We need a shorthand for the Barenaked Ladies. That's how fundamental they are

I'm too busy trying to work out what you two are arguing about..
Didn't Barenaked Ladies only have one song that was in American Pie?? :sparring::grin:

A wise man once told me that comedy is like a frog - if you dissect it, it dies.
But we were quoting a scene from the TV show Community.
EDIT: just found a video of the scene:

Hahaha I actually came across that when I looked them up.. I honestly thought they were a one-hit wonder..

They're not. They're just not that well known outside of North America (though they tour the UK and Europe regularly). They've been making Music for over 20 years. They did have a massive hit with 1 week which made them a shit tin of money and gave them a burst of international fame but they've been making great music well before and after.
they're an Alt Rock Pop band and not for everyone. But then what band ever is. If you're into Canadian alternative rock check out the Tragically hip, Cowboy Junkies and Great Blue Sea as well.

Out of curiosity has anyone here ever listened to vinyl ? And I mean real vinyl as in genuine analogue, played through a moving coil ? Not the digitally recorded crap they sell at JB HiFi.
Alternatively, does anyone here listen to hi-resolution formats such as DSD, SACD, or reel to reel ?
Re: The Barenaked Ladies I think their music is good fun. I'd probably struggle to get through an album of it but the few tracks I have heard on TV or from movies I liked.
