not ideal set up if you end up playing each other 3 weeks in a row! bring back the old 1v2 & 3v4 semi finals :)

I was worried when I left this thread that it would become dull and not worth reading.

Thanks to all involved for keeping the ZL2 thread alive and kicking!

charly v terrace (1-6)

charly dominant for majority of the match. very unlucky to concede 4 or 5 or 6 goals from bad bounces and pure misfortune at crucial stages of the game. Brave effort from terrace to hang on for the win with a nail biting finished as charlie looked a real chance coming home with wet sails and a late desereved goal.

A poor defensive mistake of not marking your man led to the goal terrace deserved a clean sheet after some of the goals we scored we let ourselves down

Well we weren't buy now that you mentioned it. But ****in hell rolo, look at you, using words with AT LEAST two syllables. You'd have to have had both neurons firing to come up with them.

Thanks mate. My class that I teach was doing three syllables word this week for spelling, so I thought I should give it a go myself and see if I'm smarter than a third grader. Appreciate the recognition =) You don't really need to say "look at you" twice though, I get the message the first time. Not sure what you are buying either?

What's everyone's favourite player of the year this season (not your own club) and also your favourite team to beat and why

Favorite player was probably Lez before he left the Terrace. His speed and power are phenomenal in this division, and he's also a funny prick.

Not my fav team to beat but my fav win this year was vs Terrace at The Nest. It was our first night game on our ground ever, and we had a pretty good turnout. Cars flashing lights and beeping and cheering at the end made it feel like a GF. Was a tough game, and our clubs best looking bloke scored the winner too, an ex-Ranger no less. The Terrace boys couldn't stop him that night!!!

Classiest player in my opinion would be Chris Matthews (charly).
Best player Steven Krause before his season ended.
Bero the prettiest to watch knock the ball around.

Has anyone heard the rumour of an ID4 next year? From what I hear it is to be 1 grade only and is to act as a third grade for ID2 / ID3 teams only as a "combined comp" So if for eg if Merewether in ID2 had a third team and Mayfield in ID3 had a third team they would both be in ID4.
Obviously there would be some logistical issues it seems but scheduling would, where ever possible, mean all 3 grades played at home on the same day. Better chance of refs!
I like it, some wrinkles to iron out but I reckon that we could fill a genuine third grade.

Could also be a good transition for all-age teams.

Is this extension of ID comps be a way for nnswf to get more revenue through team rego etc?

FFA & Northern get the same be it playing Zone or All Age , the Associations run Zone Leagues so unless they make a difference in the amounts they charge an adult between Zone and ALL Age it won't change anyones finances just be a help to clubs that have enough extra players to make up a third team and don't want to send them away or be forced to lose them because they can't offer them enough game time.

It sounds like a good idea for the clubs that can, and for even smaller clubs say a South Wallsend Juniors for example to take that first step up from ALL Age to Zone in a manageable step with one grade.

Beating Olympic at Olympic with only 5 first graders to do the warm up the other 6 players backed up from regies.a good win for a depleted side players stood up and showed heart.classiest player Olympics striker was quality however I haven't played all sides this year due to injury.
Charley not a great year but due to key season ending injuries very depleted and first grade being filled with reserve players that were missing out on a run all together when the squad was full strength.

Big weekend ahead lads , good luck to all. The spotlight this weekend has to be on Stockton. With our lads resting a few players with injuries , work , holidays etc. It will almost gift Hamilton an easy home game. So I guess we'll all have to wait and see the outcome of the Stockton V Beresfield game to see who makes the 4. Once again good luck to all and bring on the semis!

Also I think terrace might fall back a bit. Only because they have some tough games ahead. Losing Lez hurts as well as the other fella from a shoulder reco from what I heard on the weekend? Simba are a quality side. They strengthen each year and have some young kids who are absolute guns. Our goal was to not get relegated but was gutted to get so close to the finals. Especially being equal on points for fourth. We need to add some depth next year and do well again. There's some serious quality in this comp and simba will only add to that

Great game up at The Nest in first grade today. Both goals were off the spot and for mine neither were warranted. The penalty count was pretty heavily against Mussy but that was probably an indication of the ref not liking a hard/tough game and that's generally how we play. A couple of the Terrace boys spent more time on the deck than Taubman's Raw Linseed but in saying that, there was a gentle breeze around. If there's ever a time to trade your dignity for a free kick it's in the finals!!!! Lol.

Great game to all involved and looking forward to next week.

Players player for me from the Terrace was little Kev Roberts. Worked hard all game and very slippery. Great game Pebs!!!

Agreed ours looked soft to me and I was 80m away , unsuprisingly the square up call was given 5 minutes later to what I thought to be a fair fight for the ball ...... Both soft in the context of the game, but happy to get the away goal up there and still be in the fight for next week.

Afternoon,

League 1, 2 & 3 have commenced their Semi Final process, some have completed their first leg and others have not. Premier Division commences this weekend and they may meet the same obstacle with regard to the washout of venues. In addition to the email sent last week I now add the following:

League 1, 2, 3

If Leg 1 has not been completed then it is now declared cancelled; move onto Leg 2 this weekend, take all necessary steps to play the match (as noted below #2) if washed out you will have the opportunity to reset for mid-week to obtain as result – this match is now a ‘knockout’ match, winner is through to the Grand Final (#5). Extra Time for 1st Grade only (2 x 10 mins), then Shootout, other Grades to Shootout.

If you have completed Leg 1 and Leg 2 is washed out, the opportunity to reset next week is available; if this match is not played, Leg 1 result will be cancelled and the two teams finishing 1st & 2nd on the Ladder will progress to the GF.

Premier Division

Take note of the above direction and the information below.

________________________________________
1. Play all matches with safety a priority.
2. If you can move to another venue then do so; contact all clubs at your ground and contact Gail or myself to pass the change onto the State League Referees.
3. With the Referee involved decide if postponing 3rd & or Res Grade and only playing 1st Grade is viable.
4. Any matches washed out on the weekend will have an opportunity to be reset next week before Leg 2.
5. If these matches are not played by Leg 2; then the match is cancelled and Leg 2 becomes a ‘knockout’ match to reach the Grand Final. NO AWAY GOALS will be involved in the outcome.
6. If you ground has no chance of playing on the weekend, then contact Gail in the normal procedure for notifications of washouts.
7. Start your negotiations for resets immediately; the two 1st Grade Clubs will nominate a day for their match – in League Two/Three Res Grade will play on the same night; if League One, 1st will play on the determined night with 3rd & Res Grade either the night before or after.

Absolute joke of a system by the association. Here you have a situation where Hamilton are going in with a 2-1 lead ,yet if the game gets called they are knocked out?? Also if Terraces play acting antics last week are the Nest are anything to go by, may as well consider the game called off now, regardless of how dry the pitch is come Saturday. I don't blame them either, the association has made a major cock up here if you ask me.

Well technically they have between now and next weekend to play the match. It also says that it can be played at a different venue if King Park is washed out. So there really should be no concern about the match taking place.

Imagine all the droplets of water that will be around for the terrace players to trip over though. Time to get the mrs to invest in some napisan lads.

It is most definitely a rubbish system. Hamilton must be filthy at the mere suggestion that they could be out without a second leg, whilst currently winning the tie. Poor buggers.

So do we know who makes the "too wet" call? Surely it has to be the referees or somebody from the association, not somebody from the home club.

I'm confident we will get on still, teams 1 and 2 will want to earn their way to the GF, or be forced to live with knowing it to be a completely hollow GF win, and the medal to achieve nothing other than to bring shame to the trophy cabinet for all eternity.

This is a joke. Teams need to play , whether it be at a different venue or not. Cant leave it up to a ladder finish. If that is the case , scrap the final series and make it a premier league style competition from next year.

So do we know who makes the "too wet" call? Surely it has to be the referees or somebody from the association, not somebody from the home club.

depends on each clubs exact circumstances BUT generally the Local Councils have the right to call off any ground or grounds (Maitland for example sometimes do this Friday afternoon). If the grounds are not closed by Councils-

Each club has a responsibility via their Local Grounds Committee or Council that play will neither be allowed if dangerous or if it will cause undue damage. The club officials take this responsibility and can be fined by the Council for repairs or be legally liable for injuries not just to players but to anyone on the grounds if they allow play. Now the Association can not over rule the club on this, they can apply pressure only, as the club is the tenant of the Council not the association.

Then finally the match officials make a ruling based on their guidelines of safety and regulations on lines etc.

So it isn't just a simple answer, clubs can be held to answer questions on their decisions but at the time everyone is always expected to do the best they can.

Someone is going to feel robbed regardless. If the 2nd fixtures don't get played, and the first-game winners go through, there will be talks of how finishing higher didn't have advantages as didn't get a home final etc.

Hopefully all the feds (NNSW, Macquarie, Hunter Valley, Newcastle) sort it out for next year, similar to this:

First leg - at home of highest place team. Second leg - at home of lowest place team. If first game is played, and second washed out, the first game result stands. If the first game is washed out, the second leg is a one-off fixture that the venue is now given to the home team (so regardless of weather on either weekend, the higher place team always sees at least one home final). If neither fixture is played, the highest ranked team goes through.

1st to the post, remove the Rugby League GF crap which exists in OZ, GF is there only for the 3rd, 4th and in some cases 5th place teams to recieve a second chance, bit late personally, win througout the year, and not bank on a 1 game result, to blow your trumpet and reign supreme.

Well in ZL1, the Suns first grade finished 4th, played the away leg first at Beresfield and won 2-1. Now, if the second leg isn't played, Beresfield still go through. Now that's harsh.

That's not fair at all, surely there is someone at the feds with common sense that would be able to change this? I'm fairly sure the above scenario was not Johnny Warren's dream.

I would like to think if I was in Beresfields position here, and this scenario had played out and the second game was definitely unplayable, that myself and my teammates would be decent enough to tell the federation that we forfeit and the other team can have our spot.

I can definitely see both sides to the story. At the end of the day, someone isn't going to be happy. It's a very unfortunate situation that we've had this much consistent rain at the pointy end of the season.
I would much rather have just a penalty shoot-out if the ground is unplayable.

You're 100% right, that's not fair. But what's the answer?? I can't see any scenario where a team isn't going to feel ripped off.

I don't think anyone can expect the best performed team over the season to give up their grand final spot to 4th based on one game.

The Fed have failed miserably here. It shouldn't have come to this situation where the rules have been made up after the 1st ball had been kicked. If the rules were made up at the start of the season everyone would have known the rules and no one would have been able to complain.

Could you please pass onto your Secretary/Coaches for those teams in the finals, we are putting together a Grand Final Match Day Program for next Sunday.

We will be emailing clubs asking for team lists (no numbers just names) to try and make it a more personal keepsake for some.

Ground is looking good, all recent weather considered, but on game day we may need to close off the far end of the park to cars. So if players who are alone can park a the top of the ground as you enter then families can park with views to the field.

Canteen, bbq, bar, scoreboard etc will all be there for everyone to enjoy, I missed last years games but the club certainly enjoyed the day and we hope to give everyone a great end to the year again.

Good luck to all. Westy

Funny how certain teams struggle against certain playing styles, those last few round beresfield were putting in at least 5 goals a game and Hamilton were struggling until the final round, but hamitons defense stood up against beros attacking strength.

I thought it was no grand final no winner declared.

That was what the email from Newcastle Football stated.

Congratulations to Raymond Terrace for the win yesterday. Well deserved winners and were just too quick, too fit for us. Best team in the comp in my opinion. Thanks to Westy for a good day. all the best till next year

Well after celebrations have finally finished ( In which our coach got a bit to excited and has done his acl) I thought I would have my say about the day and about our season as a club.

Firstly thanks very much to west wallsend for putting on what I thought was a very professional well run day , The pitch held up well considering the rain and I dont think anyone could have any complaints about the day as a whole.

On the game I thought we were in control for a large part of the game. Im not sure what happened to the quick striker that played beresfield and caused them some headaches but we were glad not to see him playing. As it was said we were skmply to quick over the park and whilst I commend hamilton to sticking to their system , I gotta question the decision to stick with a flat back four especially considering our pace up front.

On the season as a whole , Im really proud of us as a club for the effort and heart put in by everyone , we had 24 players start a 1st grade game this year out of 30 registered players which definetly hurt our reserves this year and the club as a whole in the club championship, we lost lez early in the comp who would have easily scored us 30 goals this year , we lost krausey ( who I think is the best player in the comp by far) for ten games and much must be said for the blokes dedication to make it back for finals time after a shoulder reco and play after only training once for ten weeks,we also lost our starting centreback to a back injury for the whole 2nd round.

So yea alot of hard work and effort went into that win on the weekend and hopefully its a sign of better things to come for the rangers. Thanks for the year to all clubs , its been a blast.
