Did he run to Bay 60 when he scored on the weekend?
No he didn't

The comment that I made about this subject was about running to the fans some blew this out of proportion thinking it was about Bay 60. It was not.

It was about running to the fans in general and not snubbing them by celebrating away from them.

Griff did the honourable thing as one would expect from a bloke of his upright standing and all round class and acknowledged the crowd in the Western Stand like every one of our players should be doing everytime we score

Comment was about what Griff actually did on Saturday which happened to be to acknowledge the crowd in the western stand because Griff has the class to acknowledge the fans without any prompting and he chose the Western Stand for whatever reason he did and was not meant to imply those in the western stand are in anyway superior cause Griff chose them and forsaked all others but more meant to reflect how much Griff is a class act

You just wind people up on purpose.

If you didn't really like Griff on the field, back it up with egs, stats, common sense, etc rather than just go on this wind-up slander fest.

Actually Stubbins and Tinkler have dead set done Griff a favour. They have sealed his immortality with Newy.

He will forever be the hero who was screwed over by dickhead tyrants and will remain the people champion with the legend growing day by day if he doesn't return to Jets colours

If he does though he will be the pinup hero for suffering the banishment and his commitment to see it through and overcome all obstacles will make his glorious return cement his legacy even more.

I found an old blog entry of mine from back when I had that blog on 442

__________________________________________________ __________
Joel Griffiths – the Greatest Living Novocastrian

What more proof is needed than the recent game against the ironically named Melbourne Victory that Joel Griffiths is the most awesome player in the A-league?

This town’s favourite adopted son showed beyond all doubt why he is universally loved by all true fans of the Newcastle Jets on Friday night in the intimidating atmosphere of the Telstra Dome. The impact he had on the play, the work rate, the advice given to others – he truly is the form player at the moment, without argument the most dangerous player in the competition. Like him or loath him, you can’t ignore him.

But where does all this talent and effort come from? Born into a strong footballing family in the Shire (an area of Sydney famous for producing the most despicable bogans in the world, which is ironic considering their nickname for us), Joel played for various clubs around Sydney before moving to his adopted home of Newcastle for a stint in the NSL. After a few years spent in rain sodden England he realised the Yorkshire lifestyle has nothing on living across the road from the beach and moved back here.

Newcastle men want to be him, women want to be with him - but this Novocastrian Griffo love isn’t some unrequited relationship. During last season break when suitors from European clubs were sniffing around, the Griff wasn’t interested. Famously quoted regarding one offer as saying “it’s in the middle of Belgium, it’s not Newy”

The recent Pantelidis incident in which Griffiths was undeniably elbowed in the head exposes a few issues. How opposition fans can say Griff should have been sent off is beyond me. Panties got riled up cause he couldn’t handle him, he was beaten, he’d been schooled at Griffiths University in a scramble for the ball and reacted with a vicious elbow, a blow that could have damaged Griffo’s impending modelling career. That would have been an injustice not just on that one game but on the entire appeal of the sport in this country. The ladies (and some men) aren’t going to turn up to watch a team of ugly mugs who all look like Kevin Muscat.

But he’s not just a pretty boy, some vacuous fool with nothing going on between the ears. Not by a long shot. Our Joel is an avid chess player, the thinking man’s intellectual pursuit. Quoted recently in a reputable newspaper "If I'd known about chess when I was a kid, I would have been the nerd at school," he was quoted as saying. "Luckily, I only discovered it about five years ago. I find it relaxing. It makes me think, which, for me, is a good thing."

A lot of opposition fans dislike our Joel. Hard to believe but true. It seems Griffo is a little too real for them, they can’t handle his in your face attitude combined with his immense work rate, silky skills and undeniable animal magnetism. The man himself has suggested it could be his appearance that attracts that sort of attention. But compare and contrast with other hated figures in the competition. He’s not a violent thug like Muscat or Tiatto. He’s not so much of a prat that his own team mates give him a slap like Hearfield. The reason he’s hated so much is cause he’s got the attitude but he’s got the talent to back it up.

And who wouldn’t like to give the odd linesman a punch in the cods?

boz-monaut
08-02-2015, 04:58 PM
and an old pintculture article (not mine) from back in the old days

__________________________________________________ ____
Even casual readers of Pintculture will be aware of the editorial directives regarding Joel Griffiths. Similar to John Laws uttering “Qantas” and “Telstra” every five words, each paragraph posted on Pintculture must mention Joel Griffiths at least once overtly, and contain at least three anagrams of Joel Griffiths (e.g. “ghost Jif filer” ; “frig his jot elf”).

Now, urban legend would have it that this reporting bias was borne deep in the bowels of Pintculture HQ, where Joel wooed the boardroom fat-cats with cigars packed and rolled by Castro himself, beers at least two and a half times better than VB (!), and his superior knowledge of the Force which, while we’re on the subject, is what allows him to grow that rather excellently evil moustache of his.

Clearly, this is pure fantasy - the seduction of Pintculture was far more subtle, understated; an “undressing you with his eyes” type process. With each awkward-looking run at goal, each dramatic rotation on the ground, each tirade at Matthew Breeze, the Pintculture infatuation with JG intensified.

At first, the feelings were strange, yet titillating, but racked with doubt (e.g. “what are we doing…this guy is a complete douche….or, is he everything we’ve ever wanted?”).

Back then, liking Joel Griffiths was akin to enjoying Deal or No Deal; wanting to yell “Booyah!” at the TV with all your heart for every briefcase opening and/or scything run, but knowing that you’d feel dirty almost instantly after. Soon, the guilt began to fade, and engaging in Griffophilia was commonplace at workstations across Pintculture HQ.

Chief Griffophile, Vic Colfari, while high on a particularly paint-thinner-heavy batch of Griff-stal meth, caused a storm during the latest round of Australian Idol auditions with his power ballad “Joel Fills My Soul”, only to be edited out in production after he commented innocently to Marcia Hines, “what do you reckon about that Denni bloke? ****ing shit, ey?”.

What’s my sodding point you ask?

Jets finalise mutual termination with Griffiths

Newcastle Jets this afternoon signed a mutual termination agreement with attacker Joel Griffiths.
Griffiths won the 2008 Hyundai A-League Championship with the club, and in the same campaign claimed competition honours as Johnny Warren Medallist and Golden Boot winner.

Throughout the Hyundai A-League era, Griffiths – who also represented Newcastle in the National Soccer League before venturing to Europe – scored 34 goals in 83 games for the Jets.

Precisely half of Griffiths’ goals came at Hunter Stadium, making him the club’s all time goal getter at the venue.

On behalf of the club, Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Officer Mitchell Murphy praised the former Socceroo for his contributions to the Jets over the years and wished Griffiths well in the future.

“I arrived at the Jets at a time whereby the club had already decided to part ways with Joel (Griffiths),” Murphy said. “But I sincerely want to pay tribute to the valuable contribution he has made to the club.”

“Joel’s been an outstanding player for the Jets, but sometimes there are difficult circumstances in football. I wholeheartedly wish him all the very best for his future endeavours.”

Newcastle Jets will continue to work proactively behind the scenes with David Carney, Billy Celeski and Adrian Madaschi, as well as the PFA (Professional Footballers Australia), to resolve each player’s respective situations with the club.

GRIFFITHS HOPES TO CONTINUE PLAYING DESPITE ACL INJURY BLOW
Wellington Phoenix attacker Joel Griffiths's season is over after scans revealed he has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left leg.

The injury leaves question marks over Griffiths's playing future, but the 35-year-old hopes the news doesn't signal the end.

"It has been one of the worst years of my life, football-wise," Griffiths said.
"I hope I don't have to go out like this and if I have anything to do with it I won't.

"A lot of people have written me off in the past and I have proved them wrong.

"In the back of my mind this time they may be right but I will be doing everything possible to get back.

"I am a very determined person and when I want something I usually get it – just ask my wife!"

The striker will undergo an operation in the next four to six weeks once the swelling is reduced.

"I have absolutely loved it at the Phoenix where the culture is fantastic," Griffiths, who joined the club from Newcastle Jets, said.

"I was so down after the problems at Newcastle and what I found in Wellington was a breath of fresh air.

"I take my hat off to Ernie (Merrick) and Dura (Andrew Durante) for making the opportunity available.

"Those two put so much faith in me I am more upset at not being able to contribute for the rest of the season."

Griffiths also revealed that he had been offered a contract by the Phoenix for next season.

"The club put an offer in front of me and after discussing it with my wife I was going to sign another contract," he said.

"It (the club) is very special and I believe it has a great future."

Phoenix coach Merrick said he believed Griffiths had handled himself well after the devastating injury news.

"He was a great acquisition for our squad and it is a major blow for him," Merrick said.

"I have to say he is coping very well with what has happened and that is because he is an extremely positive person who fitted easily into our culture.

"Joel has always been fit and professional in the way he has looked after himself and I strongly believe he will come back from this and play in the A-League again."

Griffiths picked up the injury in last Sunday's 3-0 loss to Melbourne Victory in Wellington.

Can you ask when He will smite the Stubbins and free the enslaved fans from its horrid reign?

Cheers,

He's back. Your question and the members were the only two asked.

Again a good interview which I encourage people to view on the Herald website. It's again a case of not what he says but he doesn't say. Some interesting stories about his involvement with Kew and his feelings toward Regan and the others who remained at the club.

Certainly convinced he loves the club and had the best intentions for the club in his actions

Got to love Griff

Gets interviewed by David Collins and gets asked whether he has got his super and all entitlements owed to the club.

Griff then says he wouldn't know how to check leaves it to his wife etc.

Then David goes on about Griff being in the finance game these days :rof:

JOEL Griffiths is not sure whether he will play in the A-League again, let alone make a fairytale return and complete his career at the Jets.

But the former Golden Boot winner and Jets all-time leading goalscorer has no doubts that his former club can be a force again.

"Absolutely, the Jets can be a success," Griffiths told the Herald from Wellington, where he is recovering after a knee reconstruction nine days ago.

"The next 12 months is the most important in the club's history. It won't be easy. Anyone who thinks it will has rocks in their head. They need to put a fine line through everything. No shortcuts.

"The most important thing is to bring in the right people."

Griffiths was one of five senior players sacked in January after they expressed concerns to Nathan Tinkler over the direction of the club under coach Phil Stubbins.

Griffiths signed a short-term deal with Wellington in February and was in talks to extend his stay before injuring his knee.

"Ernie Merrick has turned this club and city around," Griffiths said.

"That is the No.1 thing, getting the right coach and the right brand of football."

Griffiths remains bitterly aggrieved over his exit from the Jets.

"It was a couple of people making those decisions. Here we are today and they are gone.

"I feel sorry for the CEO, Mitchell Murphy.

"The talks I had with him, I think he is the right man for the job. Hopefully he can have the reins now and some autonomy."

In three spells in Newcastle, Griffiths scored 34 goals in 83 games. He won a title in 2008 and collected the Jonny Warren medal and golden boot.

"Newcastle people want a team they can connect with and one that represents them," he said.

"When I came back [in 2014] it felt as though the club had lost its way in the community. People that used to come to our games, when I came back they were disengaged.

"The club has to bring those people back, the loyal supporters who have lost a bit of faith."

Griffiths and wife Bianca own a home lending business at The Junction.

"I'll play for free at the Jets," he said. "When you go elsewhere it might be about the money, but when you play for the Jets it's not. I owe them more than they owe me."

What a total legend this bloke is.
That's the attitude we want to see from our players.
We dead set should build a Griff the Redeemer statue overlooking Newy to pay homage to the bloke
Bloke is the greatest player we have ever had bar none and who would ever forget him scoring the winning goal in the GF against the coast

Remember when Joel had that blow-up at training and swore at Muppet and some dill on twitter that goes by "@Zadslads" said ".....and this is why Joel was sacked! #Norespect". Implying that Joel was sacked because his had no respect to the coach.
People with NFI who might know 5% of the whole situation should just stick to commenting about the Kardashians or Katie Perry.
