Griff and Ryu will bring back the crowds for sure. Miller wants to build a competitive squad but at the same time the club needs to bring back the fans. Griff said he'd play for nothing but even on a small wage he'd still give his all for his beloved Jets whilst not taking up lotsa cap money. Do it please.

Maybe his A League career is over now after that ACL but just those couple of sentences show the passion he still has for the Jets. Whatever happens down the track with the ownership, Griff no doubt has to have some involvement at the club in some capacity.

Be sure to wipe all lurid content from your phones before downloading as having the great mans voice digitized and compacted into MP3 format will make babies with any females stored in your phone in MP4 format. Too much griff is never enough but Steve jobs and those dudes at android never dreamt such a thing was possible (capturing his masters voice) and your phone might explode.
Or
It could be the whole y2k thing all over again and be no problem at all.

1231My boy went to the Jobe Wheelhouse finishing school today. Coaching by Newy legends David Lowe, Lord Griff and some bloke that now plays NPL but used to be a gypo.
Despite me instructing the boy to refer to Lord Griff as "Lord", "Savior", "God" or such like he found himself dumbstruck. I'm working on him to ask the Great One to run him through how he scored the winner when we won the comp and to ask about the disgrace that some weak ankled bloke with an overly large head is trying to steal his glory.
Hopefully some of the Lord's skills will rub off on the little poacher. By the way, he was moving reasonably well.

Bagging the guy out because he took a huge offer to go to China....I mean what planet do these guys live on? The average footballer has 10 to 15 years max to make money out of his career and if I recall at the time the Chinese offer was 3 x what he would've got (even though he was offered the Jets Marquee position) to stay here....um oh I'll pass on that and stay with the Jets!!!
What he says is 100% true in regards to a non-existent culture of recognising what players to keep in order to build this club around year after bloody year.

Not this only have 15 year careers shit again. Like anyone else Footballers can work in another field when their football careers end. Like the rest of us they can retrain themselves / change careers and work until retirement age.
This is why I have absolutely no interest in talking to or meeting players after the games or at those meet and greet wank fests. Crying about earning 250k a season when most of your fans work just as hard sometimes harder for a hell of a lot less.
No wonder the fans feel disconnected from the players.
With respect tom which players to keep you are never going to keep anyone here when clubs are competing against state owned CSL teams for player signatures.
Griffo leaving to play in the CSL is proof enough of that.

Agree to some extent here - it is becoming more and more about how much coin to you can make before retirement. Some can make good money in business or investment or media when they finish - even Griff has been studying and he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, so kudos. But others think retirement from the game means pension time.
I too can't stand adults fawning over players as their best friends at members gigs etc - they are paid professionals ffs. So you had a coffee with Birraz or Milos, they won't know who you are once they go to their next employer. You are only doing it to get your selfie on Facebook or to get some insider goss which you also can't wait to share with all and sundry.
An autograph or a photo for the kids is fine but the same desperates hang around the dressing rooms week in and week out for their 23rd pic with Mitch Cooper - some people's lives must be so boring.

Have this argument a fair bit with people when it comes to NRL players. Go out and have a short term career for $500k a season then retire with no qualifications at the age of 32 with the body of an 80 year old? No thanks. You can have that.
The players who I feel a connection with are the ones out there getting a degree or trade quals whilst playing. The ones that can see a future long term. And the ones that can put aside the cash in the good times. See it all the time in the mining industry. Companies and workers splashing cash when the boom is on then crying poor when things get a little tight. Peaks and troughs. The real winners are the ones that can run a steady ship the whole time and realise theyre on a good wicket.

Most of the idiots live like they are going to earn their peak incomes for the rest of their lives - only to wind up bankrupt five years after they stop playing. NFL and NBA certainly set the standard in that department.
The WAGS don't help matters either given their propensity to think they are Posh and Becks - and spend accordingly.

When Tim Cahill announced he was going to China....most people were like WTF!!!
Turns out he knew exactly what he was doing. As we are starting learn in recent months China is the biggest growing market for football in the world. Cahill has realised the limitless potential of being based in the largest country in the world, hence his business ventures like setting up Academy's and his own line of clothes.
Once he retires in the not too distant future, he and his whole family will be set for life!

If you haven't listened to ep50 of the Jetstream - you're a gypo
I don’t understand nowadays why the Jets don’t buy into the derby, not publicly anyway. Before I went to China the rivalry was fierce. And it flowed on to the fans. If the players are hyped up, the fans jump on board. There is nothing wrong with a bit of banter, the odd barb, as long as it doesn’t cross the line.
John Hutchinson was the ring master when it came to talking the derby up. I always respected his passion for his club, even if he wasn’t always able to back it up on the field.

THE Lambton Jaffas have added former Jets striker Joel Griffiths to their coaching staff after moving assistant Joel Grenell into a playing role.
Grenell and fellow former national league midfielder Jobe Wheelhouse have been helping head coach James Pascoe this season, but the Jaffas’ injury woes have prompted Grenell to pull the boots back on.
Pascoe said Griffiths’ expertise was a welcome addition to a side who have scored only five goals in six games this year, the second worst return in the league.
“Joel will be good for the boys in the front third,” Pascoe said. “I’m looking forward to him helping Luke Remington and the other boys go to the next level.”
The club had no plans to add 36-year-old Griffiths, who has been out for more than a year with a knee injury, as a player, but that could change next season.
Pascoe said Griffiths would not sit in the coaches’ dugout on Saturday at Edden Oval against Adamstown but would likely be on hand the following week against the Jets youth team.
Rather interesting move for the Great One.
Weren't Pascoe and Griff on opposite sides when Muppet sent Griff and co all to the sandpit???

I watched Jaffas play yesterday
There was a complete absence of team unity when they scored
Someone scored and 75% of his teammates trotted back to position for KickOff
Rather bizarre to see such a Luke warm reaction from a side desperate for a win to kick start their season.
You would have thought the whole team would have been mobbing the goal scorers in relief
I watched them a few weeks ago and thought the same ,they just didn't seem like they wanted to play for each other.no celebration of goals at all

The team harmony and spirit/belief within any team is evident when they score a goal, if you like, it is all in the player's "body language".
You can't fake a goal celebration, if the passion and belief is not within the playing group....it's simply not there and it usually filters from the coach down.

It was bizarre
You see more celebrating from a team down 5-0 pulling it back to 5-1 in the 85th minute.
I could partly understand it at 4-0 and 5-0 as the job is done and it just icing on the cake
But the first goal right on the stroke of HT you would think would have inspired them. You would have thought the 2nd and 3rd were big reliefs to them as they were putting some nails in the opposition coffin
But still muted celebrating

If we going to get a scout in China how about we get one based there with much knowledge of the country and football.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. I know the Griff supporters don't need me saying this, but I don't think the average supporter realises how huge Griff was/is in China.
When the new ownership was announced the other week, apparently the Chinese media there and officials were all over Griff (get your minds out of the gutter lads). Whether it is the coaching side of things or admin we know that Griff will give 100% to this club.

If he has a role it has to be a bit of a tokenistic position to win over/get./keep fans happy. . He has no place in the administrative side of things and (unless I'm wrong) has no coaching qualifications/experience.

I'm quite happy for the Griff to come back in almost any capacity but i think it would be pretty silly to have him as a scout in Asia. That's kind of undervaluing the knowledge a decent scout has. One day he could become one as he seems like a pretty smart man and knows his football but surely Mr Lee has contacts in China already with more knowledge than out entire scouting team, i.e. Gary who sits on YouTube all day and plays Football Manager. Griff scouting the NPL makes more sense.
He has to be somewhere in the front office attracting sponsors/sleeping with their wives and speaking to the media/and probably sleeping with their wives. Get him doing gameday commentary and stream it onto little headphones like you get at the cricket. Even get that DBag Bridges to lend his accented shit-talk. Mostly so we don't have to look at him or his busted legs again.

Newcastle Jets: Joel Griffiths helps kick off new era as Martin Lee's Ledman Group takes over club from FFA
Michael Parris
FORMER star striker Joel Griffiths will be front and centre of the Newcastle Jets’ public relations visit to China next week as the Ledman Group formally takes over the A-League club.
Martin Lee’s company assumes control of the Jets from Football Federation Australia at midnight on Thursday with a promise to build bridges with the club’s long-suffering fans.
New chief executive Lawrie McKinna replaces interim CEO David Eland on Friday, and one of his first duties will be a four-day trip to China next week.
Griffiths, who played for Beijing Guoan and Shanghai Shenhua, two of China’s biggest clubs, will act as a Jets ambassador on the visit, which will include a press conference with Lee, McKinna and FFA boss David Gallop in Beijing on Wednesday.
The trip will also include a visit to Shenzhen, where Lee’s LED lighting firm is based, and a Beijing Guoan Chinese Super League game.
“We’ve asked him to come along because he was a superstar in Beijing, and straight away people look and go, ‘Yeah, Ledman owns Newcastle. Where’s Newcastle? Ah, Joel Griffiths,’” McKinna said on Thursday.
“He’s over the moon that he’s coming with us.
“He’ll be at the press conference because he’s a big name in Beijing.”
McKinna said Griffiths, the A-League golden boot in the Jets’ title-winning 2007-08 campaign, could play an important role in reconnecting the club with its fans.
“I’ll sit down and talk to him about an ongoing role, definitely, because I see him as a big part of the culture up here. Joel Griffiths was a big star with the Jets. He typifies what the Jets players used to be like.
“I think it’s important that Joel’s a part of this club, because he’s a big name here.
“You look at six years ago and the club made the finals, the crowds we were getting. Where’s those 5000 or 10,000 people gone?
“They’re still Jets fans, but they’re not coming to the game. What did they relate to? What was then and [not] now? Joel Griffiths.”
McKinna said he would organise a meeting soon with The Squadron, who have lobbied the club successfully to move to behind the goals at the southern end of the ground, and the club would hold a fan forum on July 20.
“We just want to open the doors and let punters ask questions as well,” he said.
“We don’t want to be hidden behind these glass doors and scared to answer questions. We have to be open. We want the fans to feel like they have a voice that can be heard.
“We can’t think they’re separate to the club; we need to engage them, to make them feel as though they’re part of the club.
“Scott Miller will be going through how the team’s going, how he’s thinking. I’ll give them a spiel on the Ledman Group and where the club’s hoping to head. We’ll hopefully get someone up from the FFA as well, we’ll get the captain involved.”
McKinna said there was “a lot of positivity” since training resumed this week.
“The coaches are over the moon with the vibe around training because these guys are all mates and they’re buzzing,” he said.
“Sometimes there have been certain players in the dressing room who have come from overseas that didn’t really fit in that culture. Scott’s very happy with who he’s brought in so far.
“It’s exciting for them as well with opportunities like we’re working on a trip to China [in August].”

2016 FAN FORUM
There has been a lot of change within the Club over the last month. Our 2016 Fan Forum will be a great opportunity for our fans to hear from the leaders of the Club on the preparations for the upcoming season and the future of Newcastle Jets. The Forum panel will consist of Head Coach Scott Miller, Club Captain Nigel Boogaard, and myself (Lawrie McKinna). Joel Griffiths will be the MC on the evening.
So is this Griff gig with his backing band a sellout?
It was Griff who bought Ledman to Oz. McSpinna is bandwagon jumping.
BTW, is this fans forum going to be streamed?
Fan Forum will be a farce.
People will just keep asking Griff questions.

Alright, I couldn't find the thread (even if there is one) to remeber this wonderful day so it goes into the best thread on this forum. Tennis thread is 2nd.
But lets all take the time to remember 9 years ago that we beat the Gypos in the Grand Final.
A wonderful goal by Griff past High-five Danny, Jimmy Holland doing his best volleyball impersonation to smack the ball back at Shield. Shield fearing a sackwahck by Griff, dismisses all the gypos whinging and sooking. Hutcho cries (though not caught on camera this time). Aloisi has an angry look on his face. Gypo coach realises he's on the wrong team and has to do years of pennance to make up for leaving a Newcastle team to go to the mob down the raod before he is finally allowed to set foot past Swansea.

He went to travel the world on a sabbatical, spreading the word of his wonder and ability. He spent time with Drogba and Anelka and educating them on the art of being a lethal striker, among others.
Then, after nearly 5 years, when he spent a year on each of the footballing continents educating and amazing, he returned home to help rid us of Stubbins and bring us Vargas and Patito.

Someone obviously gave him some concrete shoes and dropped him in the middle of Newy harbour to go sleep with the fishes where he belongs

I can remember when the Jets played SFC and at the end of the game how Del Piero's whole face lit up with a smile when he got to shake hands and have a chat with Griffo at the end of the game.
It's not often you see a star like Del Piero actually seeking out others for a chat - it's usually the other way around.
That's how respected Joel Griffiths is in football and why he's the greatest ever player and now Football Operations Manager the game has ever seen.

The best part was Griff would have had no idea who Del Piero was, but Griff gave him some time and advice to help the Italians career out. Because Griff is willing to help nobodies out.
Hail Griff.

no worries Boz, but if he's headed north it's just another property for sale now :(
There is a head coaching vacancy at the club
You know it makes sense
Bring him home

Saw Griff in the corporate boxes at the game last night. Took the opportunity to further educate my son and his mate about Griff, regale them in more stories, and again tell the tale of his GF goal and directly encourage them to pray to him more than they currently do.
Bon was on the level behind me...I reckon Bon only saw about 5 minutes of the game because he couldn't take his eyes off Griff.

Such is the power and influence of the Lord, that on Friday night in Adelaide Andy Harper said "Joel Griffiths" instead of "Joel King".
Still in the minds of his phalanx of followers.
His commandment that no Jets player can ever score in front of his eyes, lest they be turned into a pillar of salt, must have been in effect last night.
