After watching Joel at Sydney, he was the only one who really read what ADP was doing. If he brings that back here, it could be just what Heskey needs to fire. From that point of view its an awesome signing. Kept under wraps pretty well.

He has said all the right things in the press release.

But, I hope this doesn't turn out to be a stepping stone to get back to asia. We need stability as well as fire power, club needs to try and secure him for longer.

Today though, I am wearing my season 3 away jersey in celebration. Anyone got the gold paint to reinstate "Joel" Griffiths Road.

How about this....

Griffo signing causes massive ejaculation.

The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets have signed Johnny Warren Medal winner Joel Griffiths for the remainder of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season.

The former Jet returns to Newcastle after spending the past five seasons plying his trade in China, as well as a short spell at Sydney FC.

Griffiths earned legend status in Newcastle after winning the A-League’s Golden Boot award and the Johnny Warren Medal during the Jets’ 2007/08 Championship winning season.

In total, Griffiths made 60 Hyundai A-League appearances for the Jets, scoring 28 goals in three seasons at the Club.

The former Socceroos striker said a big factor in his decision to return to Newcastle was his admiration for the Club and its fans.

“It was more about love over money, that was the biggest thing,” Griffiths said.

“There were definitely offers from other Clubs involving much, much more money, but I’ve always wanted to come back to where it all began and I’ve been going to bed dreaming about this move.

“I just followed my heart this time. Most of my career I’ve been following my head, especially when I left the Jets before, but this decision was all about my heart.

“I’m really happy with how everything has panned out and I’m very excited to play in Newcastle again.”

Griffiths said he was looking forward to playing in front of the Club’s Members and supporters once again.

“It will probably be a little bit emotional for me,” Griffiths said.

“Newcastle for me is one of those Clubs where I can really start enjoying myself again.

“I definitely feel like I do play with my heart on my sleeve at this Club, more so than any other Club I’ve been at.

“There’s a big challenge ahead, but I’m really looking forward to that.

“Once I put that Newcastle jersey on, it’s a different me, I can’t describe it.”

After helping the Jets secure Newcastle’s first ever national league title, Griffiths spent four years playing in the Chinese Super League for Beijing Guoan and Shanghai Shenhua, where he scored 34 goals from 94 appearances.

Griffiths then had a short stint at Sydney FC during the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season where he scored three goals in eight matches, before returning to China with Qingdao Jonoon where he found the back of the net three times in seven appearances.

Newcastle Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said the Jets were extremely pleased to have secured Griffiths’ services for the remainder of the season.

“We’re delighted that Joel has decided to return to Newcastle to play with the Jets,” Middleby said.

“The people of Newcastle admire Joel for the role he has played in the Hunter region’s proud football history and it’s fantastic for our Members and supporters to have him representing our Club once again.

“Joel is a natural goal scorer whose record speaks for itself and we’re really looking forward to seeing him take the field for the Jets once again.

"Adding Joel to our squad gives us some great options in attack with the likes of Heskey, Taggart, Bridges and Gibbs up front as well.

"Nathan Burns is returning to Korea but discussions are ongoing and we are very much still interested in bringing Nathan back as well as welcoming Joel."

Common sense would say that we'd use both Joel and Heskey in a 4-4-2, so I assume Gary will put on of the two on the bench and stick with the 4-3-3.
The club signing Joel looks like a big '**** you' to Gary. I love it.

GVE is making a big deal about the fact that Griff hasn't played since late November. Yet, it's only seven or eight weeks . Would he lose condition that fast or has he been away from training and conditioning altogether for that time ?

Even if he was a bit out of shape I'd still want him on the pitch purely for his goal scoring ability on set pieces.

Spot on. I'll take Griff saying all the right things in the media about how he always wanted to come back to Newy, he loves the club and fans etc with an Everest sized grain of salt, at the end of the day that's all just a bit of PR work from him. All I want him to do is score plenty of goals.

Big decision time for Griff here.

I completely agree that he should be seeking compensation given they are the ones who informed him of an inability to pay his final 12 months.

Question Griff needs to answer himself is, does he potentially want to be out of a job and not playing for 12 months while he fights this, or does he want to play and write the cash off by dropping the compensation.

Hard call to make, particularly with a young family, Not a place I would be wanting to find myself. Given the way the Chinese clubs seem to play hardball, I suspect either Griff drops the compensation, or we don't see him this season.

Jets used to just hurt you with the football they played, now they play these games.

Honest question - given Qingdao are holding to ransom with this clearance and he has been told he won't be getting paid and to find another club, would there even be a consequence if he played anyway?

For example, if Qingdao refuse to ever issue a clearance than I would imagine he would receive an over-riding clearance from FIFA directly? Why can't that just happen now. There should be no reason he misses a single game because of this. The consequences of him missing this derby are dire. I honestly think our season surviving hinges on Griff's presence on Saturday.

On a sidenote, I bet my left nut those monkies running the show at Jets HQ sent a fax (in English) requesting a clearance and have down nowt in addition to that. Maybe they sent an email too.

FFS, isn't Tinks in Singapore now? Tinks needs to get across to China and storm into the Chinese FFA or Qingdao club and see to it personally!

Mate - Tinks does not give a shit, I wish people would realise this. He only acts if he sees millions being lost to him (Culina, license stoush).

He wouldn't know who Griff was.

Some blokes will be awfully cut

Hopefully the jets & FFA can get a similar outcome as the similar cases in the past like the cases below.

I'd imagine it would have to go through a process of the jets asking the Chinese club for the clearance, they refuse.

Jets then ask FFA to get a clearance from the Chinese FA, if they refuse then the FFA would have to move on to the FIFA dispute resolutions, in which case a similar interim clearance could be given until the final outcome is resolved, but I don't like the chances of all that happening before 5 Feb.

Perth Glory want contract disputes of Michael Baird, Josh Mitchell resolved

Perth Glory are hopeful striker Michael Baird and defender Josh Mitchell will be granted special permission by FIFA to play this weekend after fellow A-League side Central Coast tasted success in their own clearance battle.

Baird, Mitchell and Mariners defender Joshua Rose walked out on Universitatea Craiova at the end of last season after going several months without receiving payment.

But it was far from a clean break, with the Romanian outfit denying the trio's clearance application and forcing them to miss the opening round of the A-League season.

The contract wrangle isn't expected to be resolved until August 20.

But Rose is free to take on Adelaide United this Sunday after being granted a provisional registration by FIFA, which allows him to play while awaiting the outcome of the grievance hearing.

Perth have their fingers crossed that Baird and Mitchell will receive a similar clearance before Saturday night's clash with Melbourne Victory at AAMI Stadium.

"Whilst we don't know Joshua's case specifically, the cases are very similar, if not identical, in which case we would think our clearance is imminent," Glory deputy chairman Lui Giuliani said.

"Our understanding is we lodged it a number of weeks before the Joshua Rose case was lodged and we are still waiting.

"It's extremely frustrating because all of our legal advice was this was a straight forward case.

"We lodged the appeal with FIFA at the earliest possible date back in mid June.

"It's unfortunate there is that power to actually hold up players' clearances when there potentially hasn't been a meeting of contractual terms by a party.

"To have the ability to stop a player from carrying on his trade is just bemusing. It wouldn't happen in most industries."

Baird has been left frustrated by the whole experience and lashed out at his former club, claiming the Romanian outfit purposely delayed his clearance just to spite him.

"The club actually knew that what they were doing and how they'd restrict me from playing," Baird said.

"We actually spoke to the club and they said 'stay, stay (but) we won't be able to pay you until March and that sort of thing.

"I said 'well it's been four months, it's time to move on, next phase of my life'.

"And they said 'well we won't let you play' and they knew they could do it and they've done it before ."

I read that headline and got excited because I thought we had let Mitchell go back to Perth.

What a let down
