Joel Griffiths will miss the opportunity to extend his run of scoring for the Jets against Brisbane. Griffiths has scored in 8 consecutive games against the Roar while playing for the Jets.
Michael Theo has kept 5 clean sheets in 20 matches against the Jets.
Mark Birighitti has kept 3 clean sheets in 4 appearances against the Roar .
The Jets kept Brisbane scoreless in the first 5 meetings in Brisbane. Mitch Nichols was the first player to score for the Roar against the Jets in Brisbane in Round 15, Season 4. That was a total of 495 minutes scoreless.
The Jets have only been kept scoreless in Brisbane once (Round 9, Season 8).
Matt McKay (4) and Ruben Zadkovich (7) are the most booked players for each team in this fixture.
The Jets have received an average of 3.4 yellow cards in the last 10 fixtures against the Roar. The Jets have only ever played one game against the Roar where they received no cards or bookings.
The Jets have kept 8 cleans sheets in 12 meetings against Brisbane.
The last 6 matches in Brisbane have seen Brisbane score 1, 0, 1, 0, 1 and 0 goals. Following this trend, it could be assumed they will score a goal.
Thomas Broich is the only player in this fixture to have been given a straight red card. The 7 other players dismissed in this match all received second yellows. Those players are Joel Griffiths, Jobe Wheelhouse, Ruben Zadkovich, Josh Mitchell, Kew Jaliens, Stuart McLaren and Craig Moore.
In Season 5, the Brisbane Roar fielded a different goalkeeper in each of the three meetings between the teams.
Neither team has scored more than one goal in the first half in the last 13 meetings.
The Jets haven’t lost in their last 4 matches against Brisbane.
A Mike Mulvey coached side has never beaten the Jets. (2 draws and 3 losses).
Each team has scored 29 goals in this fixture. Brisbane has only scored 5 goals in 12 fixtures against the Jets in Brisbane. The Jets have scored 15 in 12.
Andrew Hoole will miss the match because he has accumulated 5 bookings this season.
This match may prove to be Craig Goodwin’s 30th start for the Jets.
This match will be the 89th start for Ruben Zadkovich. This gives him the 3rd highest number of starts for the club, moving him ahead of Jobe Wheelhouse. Ruben has never appeared for the Jets off the substitutes bench.

Really? Thought it was pretty common knowledge. Probably helps I have a Roar supporting mate that I get to give it to all the time. Jets @ Suncorp is a dreaded fixture for him.
Also;
In Brisbane – 8 games
Jets Wins – 8, Roar Wins – 2, Draws – 2

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/australia-and-japan-begin-referee-exchange-program/85823
An experienced Japanese referee will take control of this Sunday’s Brisbane Roar v Newcastle Jets Hyundai A-League match as part of a referee exchange program between Football Federation Australia (FFA) and the Japanese Football Association (JFA).
The program is designed to help referees from both countries gain valuable international experience as well as expose players in the Hyundai A-League and Japan to different styles of officiating.
Takuto Okabe will take the whistle on Sunday at Suncorp Stadium in the first of two Hyundai A-League matches that will be controlled by a Japanese referee with the exchange program also including the round 24 clash between Melbourne Heart and the Central Coast Mariners.
Okabe has refereed 124 J-League matches since he was elevated to the Class 1 category of referees in Japan in 2006 and will be assisted by Australian assistant referees Ashley Beecham and Brad Hobson and 4th official Alan Milliner.
“We have a referee’s strategic plan and one of the important aspects of that plan is to offer our referees meaningful international experience which will enable them to become better referees,” said FFA Director of Referees Ben Wilson.
“Part of that strategy is the exchange program with the JFA and we are excited about having Takuto Okabe referee the A-League match on Sunday ahead of the round 24 match when an equally experienced Japanese referee will take control of the Heart v Mariners game.
“A-League clubs have supported this exchange as it exposes our players and teams to Asian referees ahead of AFC Champions League matches and is part of a strategic plan to raise the standards of our officials.”
The exchange will see Milliner, Beecham, and fellow assistant referee Matthew Cheeseman officiate in the Japan v New Zealand international to be played in Japan on 5 March.

Completely mess with everyone and come out with a 5-3-2. Goodwin left back, Carney right back. The usual 3 in midfield, TWO up front. Sure we will still lose, but it will be interesting to see how Fox make up a squad and formation on the team screens.

Pen or not everyone?
It's irrelevant now but I said no even at the time
my first instinct was pen but after seeing the replay I'm doubtful.

The importance of that win can't be underestimated. We are still in touch with the Top 6 and negated the Heart's win today.
It will give the boys confidence for next week to stop Sydney doing the treble over us.

Ok so credit where credit is due Caravella actually had I really good game today.
There you go Bon and PV4 I said it.
But I still think he gets lost with his defensive positioning at times. Today he was wining the ball and moving it on fantastic.
Who are you referring to?
best ref. opposition didnt get handed free kicks all day. pen? contact started outside box anywho

I actually think it was Stefanuto new he was beat and was no where near the ball. Contact was minimal but Stefanuto never looked like winning the ball.
Brisbane should of had one too with Mitchell, although you never see them called and it would of been soft it was still a foul

By the way no where near enough credit is being given to Griff for this win.
Just saw the penalty, was dead set one. Great job ref.

Magnificent job. Ugly but so, so effective. The Beard was immense. Even The Roundabout played well. Captain Nude Nut seems out of form still. The Ox seemed lost as did The Gibber. How did Mitchell get picked ahead of Chapman? Chapman must have made a pass at Tinkler's wife to be this out of favour. The Esky did well too. We actually won a few high balls while he was on.
Still not good enough but 3 point are 3 points

Chapman played 90 mins in the Yoof Saturday.
As for the game lets not get ahead of ourselves. We parked the bus kept it tight and arsed a win thanks to a shit decision going our way.
Don't forget the fact that our players are ****ing hopeless.
Chilli needs to have a ****ing go had plenty of opportunities to have a blinder but dogged it all day long.
Caravella is ****ing killing me PLAY IT QUICKLY AND PLAY IT FORWARD FFS
Half our blokes have NFI idea on how to pass to a ****ing teammate let alone construct an attack. The amount of times they aimlessly played it to a teammate who was in a far worse position than they were was baffling.
Take the 3 points but it doesn't paper over the cracks of how shit these ****s actually are.
Thank **** Griffs back next week coz at least we will have one bloke out there who has a ****ing clue

Virgilli was the worst IMO. That 2 on 1 in the second with Taggart should have been a goal, but Virgilli ****ed it up.
I can see why GvE wasn't playing him.

But it was his pace and skill (didn't he backheel it forwards?) that created the opportunity in the first place, so I don't see what the issue is.
Aside from that he was also wreaking a shitload of havoc down that right side. Great game from him imo, deserves the spot next week.

Issue with him is that he could have had a much much better game. Desperately needs confidence at HAL level. There were many times today where he thinks and then took the soft option where as in the Yoofs he doesn't think he backs himself and has a go.
He could have raped Stefanutto into retirement today

Thought our tactics were spot on today and we deserved to win. Also thought Rubes was immense in defence. That game gave me hope that Zane may direct us to a top 6 spot. Not sure of the pre game focus that we were playin a 4-3-3...looked like a 4-4-2 for most of the game.
p.s. Deans out!

Regz, Chappers, Hoole, Carney and Griff all back in next week. I think.
That should change things.

play griff from the start and if we are drawing/losing drop a midfielder and play 3 up front
i thought chilli was outstanding yesterday but hoole has been outstanding all year
don't get the caravella hate, he and rubez only have 2 jobs in our set up and that is to get the ball back and lay it off which i think they do superbly.
brillante while i would love in the centre of the park is a much better alternative than peppz or gallaway.
don't care which way they go with carney or goodwin at LB, we just need a left footed player there.

Body speaks some truth!
I agree re: Virgili. I thought he played well. He played better than he had in the previous showing's this year and yeah he missed a couple of shots and one cut back was intercepted but he kept pushing and actually stopped Steffanuto getting forward more than he normally did. Deserves a bench spot next week.
Brillante is our best option at right back at the moment. A reserve wide defender should be an area for recruitment next season. Josh was my MoM.
Oxborrow did alright for his 4 minutes. I reckon he was given orders to press, be a pest and chase the ball. He did that well. Gibbs disappointed me with his energy levels. For a pair of fresh legs his level of urgency was down on what I expected on such an occasion where we REALLY needed the win.
The situation yesterday could have called for Bridges to come on, hold possession and take it to the flag. Credit to the management team that they made the decision to not bring him on and go for the younger legs of Oxborrow. I’m sure Bridges, like any professional, wanted to get on but from the outside the team appear to have made the decision they felt was best for the situation.
Left footer at LB side is a must.
Caravella played well yesterday I thought. I didn’t really notice Zads to be honest. I think he must have done the clean-up job well in the middle. Berisha hardly got a sniff as well so well done to the CB.
Heskey held up play well and some of his passes we really good. Taggz was always a menace breaking the line. Goody was quiet but solid.
Finally, Birraz made some superb late saves and kept his 2nd clean sheet against Brisbane this season.
It was a really good team performance yesterday. As a Jets fan I felt happy and felt they left nothing out there.

Very surprised that some people in this thread were saying Virgilli was the worst?
And in that 2v1 situation the defender was covering the pass to taggart a bit, can you really fault him for having a crack when he created that space all himself and was bearing down on goal?
He just should have finished, at least on target.
We were extremely lucky this game, pretty standard stuff against brissy really rof.
Re the penalty, first impressions were pen, upon replay you can clearly see he purposely fouls him outside the box, free kick. Love it.

Agreed. I was waiting for the whistle a few times and it never came which was a pleasant surprise. I think he got a few wrong but that happens every game but his decisions were more on the right side.

Nope. I'd have shot too.

I agree..
I'm so sick and tired of seeing refs (you know who they are) pulling up EVERY little thing. It just stops the flow of the game, gets people frustrated, then they do stupid tackles and wonder why the game gets out of hand. ( I keep watching the premier league and you see tackles occur, that are played on, and just just know that someone like Ben Williams would have sent the player off for it in the A-League)
Sure, the ref last night wasnt right 100% of the time, but at least he let things go and play on..

virgili didn't have the end product, but he got himself in the right positions and hgave steffanutto a rough time. was nowhere near our worst

Virgili wasn't bad at all... but have a look at his opponent? Stefanutto must have incriminating photos of Mulvey's family to still be in the squad. I think everyone that has lined up against him this season has run riot... and I imagine Hoole would have done just as well as Virgili and actually had one or two decent final ball options on top.

Of course it's a good set up because you've got ****ing Griff in there and no ****ing Bridges. At this stage of the season i'd throw the kitchen sink and play 3-4-3 with Heskey being the point and Taggz and Griff roving around like a school of sharks. Sydney would need a bigger boat

There only stitches he will live.
Be more a question of how it heals and whether he is right for Saturday or misses the 1 match as it hasn't heeled sufficiently
