I reckon I might have been a bit harsh... but he was average first half. Much better second half.

No fluidity, no creativity....and that is it.
We always look like we will cough up possession any pass, and we have nobody to run centrally at defenders. Griff had one moment like that in the first half - had it been Flores, Vidosic, ADP, Carle, Carlos etc they would have run at the line, done a one/two or fired a bomb. Rubes can shoot from there but needs time to tee up.
The season is all but gone - a win is a must on Friday to keep alive. Will be amazed if today is a draw and we are still 6th.
One positive was that Cooper looked energetic in his time on the pitch.
Only caught the second half and was completely livid with how we were playing until Neville went off and and cooper provided some spark, there were some very good passages of play for us attacking in the last 10 or so, too bad it's taken so long to see a glimpse of what gve is preaching.
I actually am confident most times sad gets the ball just out of the 18. I used to cringe and turn to my wife and say "pick a person on the hill who's gonna catch this one"
If the players we have support what GVE is doing then we need new players.
Becuase if they are happy with the shit thats going on then it is obvious they are only in it for a pay check.
The only player we had who actually gave a **** about the fans left the club last week.
The current players couldn't give a flying ****. If they cared they would either walk out or demand change.
Disagree with the people who are having a whinge about the whole neutral venue thing.
Would much rather have it at a place with 10,000 fans going mental than in the middle of nowhere in front of 2,000 mutes with minimal affiliation to either team before and after the match. We had this debate last season with the Bathurst game, I think this proves my point.
The problem is that it gives half the league more home games than the rest. Plus we should be exposing the game to new regions.
Having said that I'm fine with WSW getting an extra home game in their debut season, plus RBB is probably the second best supporters behind Victory, that whole stadium chant was quite impressive IMO
Feel they should have been playing a Perth Nix Adelaide etc in their regional round at Campbelltown rather than making us Newy fans have to travel that extra hour(compared to parramatta) to the game.
The whole regional round thing is a ****ing farce. Sydney held a game at Campbelltown last year?? Why
Victory play in Launceston and not Geelong or say a Ballarat/Bendigo
Adelaide get an extra home game cause they deem Adelaide rural enough already.
Newy play Adelaide in all places Bathurst as opposed to regional SA or NNSW??
Nothing wrong with the regional round as an idea but there has to be some uniformity and consistency as to how it is done not the hap hazard biased approach there seems to be with it.
Either we go to regional places like Bathurst, Ballarat Launceston etc or we go to places the HAL may end up soon and start putting the stake in the ground in Wollongong Canberra Geelong Townsville etc
As would I. Me agree with your point about allowing the new club another home game, and it was smart to have it in Campbelltown to further their reach. As sydneyfc had made links with MacArthur last night would help to garner even more red and lack support down that way.
Just wish the ffa wouldn't try and label it as something it isn't.
Last night was for all purposes a WSW home game, they were running the pregame and half time, and ground announcing, it was parramatta further south. They played gangnam style ffs. Don't treat us like fools and expect us to cop 12 home games and 13 away by telling us one of the away games would be at neutral ground.
Next year our "neutral" venue should be Birmingham gardens.
Just watched the game.
Agree our fluidity isn't there. We take far too long on the ball and the one or two times we moved the ball really wuickly we looked ok. The speed needs to increase.
The fullbacks pushing so high reduces our options to pass out. I'll be watching Brisbane and victory the next few games to see where their fullbacks sit. It's reducing the effect of our wingers because the are both sitting on halfway having a chat.
Regan needs to return.
Neville should be dropped. Hoole in.
Gallaway can attack but liability in defence. This is contributed to by the "system"
There was a massive gap central mid. With both holders dropping and griff remaining high we really lacked options
I don't know what's up with Goodwin but it needs some attention.
I feel sorry for Heskey. Guy gets no service and has to drop deep just to get a touch.
Maybe need to go back to basics. We look lost. Devoid of attacking options or general passing quality
I'd hate to think where we would be without birraz in goals
just a few stats from the game, according to the a-league iphone ap:
possession %: wsw 34 - newcastle 66
goal attempts: wsw 19 (7 on target) - newcastle 10 (3 on target)
penalty area entries: wsw 21 - newcastle 14
passes: wsw 263 (176 accurate) - newcastle 535 (450 accurate)
crosses: wsw 21 - newcastle 27
looks to me like the front third is definitely the problem. gve said post-game that he feels like the team needs more "natural goal-scorers"; what a shame someone like joel griffiths isn't available...
Amusing train trip back from campbelltown to strathy, had some wasted 40 yo lady (jets fan) not knowing where to go, then she decided to get off at merrylands (hope it wasn't Maryland for her sake lols) She also gave it to a bunch of wsw fans that kept coming through our train carriage singing and blowing horns.
As for the game I noticed no one cheered our goal for about 5 seconds or so, did many miss seeing it be scored?
Other highlights of the day:
.Kebab at strathy station on the way to the game
.Those wsw fans giving it large at games start, then seeing them get asked to leave, phoar they have some characters
out that way
.Dale cavese moshpit

66% possession means SFA when the biggest distributor of the ball is your centre backs. I reckon Chapman had around 80 of those passes. Birra is pushing 40, Mitchell is well over 50 and well over half of Double-Z's attempts are in our half.
Quite simple, wing backs are pushing so far forward that they're practically sitting on top of our wingers so the opposition only need one defender on each wing to defend effectively. This means the CB only have themselves and the Birriz to pass to. Then the opposition uses their extra players (not used to mark on the wings) to press high and pressure our midfield and eventually our CB's. Leads to many silly mistakes and also the stupid amount of passes between our two CBs and Birriz. Watch any other team that uses wing backs and they don't push forward until the ball is in the opposite half because they're sitting back to help out the CBs.
No idea how GVE doesn't see this.
Also how he plays Mitchell over Regan.
I don't think Xenon was that horrible, it's just impossible to play in the screening position atm because of the extra pressure on our midfield due to our advanced wingbacks.
