would like to hear other opinions on this.
Iv been looking over other league forums and in league 3 they have all but called it a two horse race League 1 have got 2 maybe 3 they are talking bout who could win it with another 3 to fight out for the final spot. but in this league I can't see any run away leaders or any two teams pulling away from the group just yet. ( maybe to early and prob a better question after the first half of the season is done) but just going of results my team Tenambit are coming second last but I dnt think any team can say they have had an easy match against us. and even Medowie on the weekend proved ur going to have to work hard to beat them from now on. And every body has to be at their best to get the win. There is no cursing thru any matches ( other then maybe the first two Medowie results no offence to them tho). Am I seeing it wrong or is it going to be one good battle over the year to see who comes out on top?
Do individuals come on here drunk ,ill informed or both? Yes we have played against 10 men in our last 2 games and yes, we did equalise through an oggy last night. On Saturday we were 2-1 down and it ended 3-3 without an oggy, with my math suggesting we scored 2.
2 very different scenarios - Charlestown came out at half time and continued impressively with their 2 strikers, which made sense as they were chasing an equaliser and theoretically had nothing to lose. Olympic had gone 1 goal up and left a lone striker, opting to be difficult to break down, work hard and hit on the counter. All of which they did very well. I'm happy to congratulate both sides on how they went about their business after being let down by one of their own for terrible discipline.
Last nights game didn't reach any real heights with similar chances at both ends. Difference was we had a shot missed / blocked inside the 6 and then conceded at the other minutes later putting Olympic up 1-0 at the break. Great leadup work from their skipper who has been awesome for them vs us at home 2 years in a row now. Think it's common knowledge how important he is to them (conceded 3 in 20 mins when he went off prior game).
Anyway as mentioned above, we played against 10 men in the second half and finally broke through with a cross deflected into their own net from a defender you can't help but feel somewhat sorry for as his own benched indicated it's not the first time and were subsequently not impressed with him. It was a much more positive dressing shed than Saturday from our perspective. Although we all could have done things better, we played minus a few through injury, away against a quality club and got away with a point after going down a goal. Our blokes that came into the side did well, one in particular who knows who he is Kenny Sutcliffe.
Saw about 5 mins of reggies, enough to view a cracker of a volley for Olympics second goal in their 2-0 win.
Sharky - interesting question. I think you're spot on and will be a very close comp. We're happy to have caught Mussy perhaps not quite ready and I suspect they and maybe Charlestown to be the ones to beat. Westlakes still worrying if get going. Medowie seem the weakest but are already improving and will definitely pick up points against the better sides at some point. Obvious point but key will be to ensure those that will finish around you don't win the 6 pointers.
I'd like to pose a question to those on her re: discipline.....
Twice in the last few days we've come against opposition whilst not at our best and to be honest, could have gotten away with more than we otherwise would have because of one individuals poor discipline on the opposing team. Undeniable straight reds for abuse of officials.
What do other clubs do about this? Are players spoken to? Disciplined from within? Helped? Jesmond had one last year that has been much better this year *touch wood* after actions were taken including being benched after his suspension. This was a tough call as is one of our best players but maybe it's helped him as a player and maybe even a man. He did and still does have a very good repoir with the coach that did this, it's probably even better now.
Being told it's "unlucky" from your bench isn't the answer. I'm not talking about hanging individuals out to dry, but if a player is sent for something stupid and it keeps happening within that club to the point where senior players don't necessarily want to be there anymore (which I know has been the case at other clubs), something needs to be done. Maybe those in question can be guided and may even be thankful in the medium to longer term.... Just keen to know others thoughts and if anyone is happy to share what happens in your club...???
man this thread, seriously guys, try to keep the posts to a paragraph i cbf reading it all........Sharky, yeah very close comp it seems.
Across the river at Stocko we have an inhouse rule where players receive a 1 match suspension when incurring a yellow card for dissent or ridiculous yellow cards. Luckily we have not had to deal with a red card for such offences as yet. but I'm sure a longer suspension would be used for an incident such as the one last night which I witnessed and heard myself from the sideline that resulted in the straight red whether or not the linesman made the right call in the play leading up to the card.
At Tenambit in the past if it is a one off the coaching staff pull the player aside and basically tell him to wake up to himself and explain that's not what we want at the club. Continues offences have resulted in the club adding on an extra few games to the suspension plus once again coaching staff speak to player and try to work with him so it stops.
Luckily we havnt had an issue like this for a few years now.
I how ever have had a habit of picking up yellow cards for needless back chat to the ref and this year my coach has said if I pick up 5 yellow for back chat or a red for back chat its my shout for the whole team at the club. So it has worked to a degree for me even tho my coach prob still thinks I talk to much with the ref.
ZL3 is far from a two horse race, i think Stockton, Bero, Dungog and Simba are all capable of winning comp, and dont write off Toronto ( with a full squad ) sneaking in the semis and causing some damage.
Anyway thats my ZL3 rant in ZL2 thread :)
Tenambit V Jesmond
Res 1-0 Jesmond
First 2-0 Tenambit.
Westlakes vs Charlie
ressies 3-3
westlakes came out of the game feeling like it was a massive loss.
chalestown came out very strong in the first 20min but westlakes got a goal on the counter.
charlie then got an equaliser after the cats couldnt clear a corner. had about 3 shots before getting it in.
then charlie was awarded a soft penalty which was saved.
cats then got ontop and ended up scoring another 2 to go 3-1 up in break.
second half nothing really happened until 20 to go with another goal to charlie with us failing to clear the ball.
and with 7 to go we had a goal kick which the keeper passed it straight to the opposition striker for a one touch goal.
pretty sad way to concede but thats life.
firsts 4-1
both teams had a player sent off in last 5 minutes after a fight. i missed the start of it but didnt really look like much really happened. a few punches thrown but nothing collected.
charlie were pretty lucky not to have been down to 10 men in the first 15 after there was a strong ball and all tackle to which number 10 for charlie retaliated and ran bout 10 metres to kick the back of a player when the play was on the other side of the field. imo clear red and probably contributed to the drama at the end.
Olympic v Uni
Res 2-3
1st 3-0
Westlakes ressies came out in the second half thinking they had it won and hopefully that's a wake up call for us. Firsts good win by westlakes even first half but controlled the second half unlucky not to win by more. Seemed like westlakes might be kicking into gear "hopefully".
a question in regards to azzuri (Charlestown, whatever they want to be called in whatever division) - I was under the impression they wore a light blue jersey. Today they wore a maroon shirt and shorts, and light blue socks. is the maroon shirt their legit kit nowadays? Just seemed odd that they were playing away and wore the closest colour to purple (westlakes) they could.
Merewether v Medowie
Res: 3 - 0

I dont think our maroon kit really was even close to your technicolor dreamcoat jersey. Its like purple green white and mauve isnt it? lol but yes, that is charlestown's zone league kit. It is the same kit as the nbn side, however it is maroon with a blue V to signify the charlestown united colours which are claret and blue.
The nbn side wears sky blue with a white V, which obviously signify azzurri's white and blue kit.
As for the games, reserves was an odd game. Shouldve been 2-1 up, went down 3-1 instead, but showed great character against the league leaders to fight back for a draw.
In regards to the comment to our number 10 running 10 meters, i think u need ur eyes checked. After they tussled, he ended up on the ground and literally stood up and swept his legs from under him.
Westlakes profited from some absolute charity today. 1st goal was terrible, and was dually finished at the back post by our defender for a suicidal own goal, after the ball should have been cleared 3 or 4 times.
The 2nd goal was a bit of good fortune with a freekick deflecting off the wall and skidding across the box for a tap in, the 3rd was more abysmal defending when a short goalkick ended up with our defender playing in their striker.... And the 4th was a keeper error.
Westlakes couldve had more, they created plenty of chances, but the goals they got were gift wrapped.
One of the worst performances from our boys in recent memory, we always seem to struggle at rathmines, but we'll lick our wounds and bounce back.
As an aside, Westlakes could probably do everyone a favour and try to stop idiots in the crowd constantly yelling out and calling players c*^ts.
Fair few families at the game, try and keep that language for another time.
I did hear the calls that you talk about and they were all directed at #10. They shouldn't have been said and they'll be spoken to.
But I can understand why they said them tho . Shocking to kick a player from behind off the ball.
At the end of the day it was delt with as a yellow and just gotto get on with things
Ill add that they weren't players or people within westlakes just local supporters n players of other clubs
Yeah some comments definately were unwarranted but unfortunately you can't police everyone at a home game especially if its fiery after a pretty dog hack to the legs of a player. I don't want to stir but seriously the guy who chopped the westlakes player off the ball and then the number 8 who eventually got sent, even though he was the victim of the fight could probably of got a couple of yellows early for simply being a muppet off the ball. Other than that it was a good game and Charlestown as cabaye said pretty much shot themselves in the foot with errors and gift wrapped westlakes victory. Sorry about the long post the mosquito may have drank too much haha
because i'm a kitnerd i'm going to bite at this. for clarification - westlakes jersey top is mostly purple, secondary colour bottle green (vertical stripes), and white trim. the mauve you're referring to is on one half of a sponsor logo on the lower back, and we have no control over what our sponsors logos are. purple, green and white is a horrendous colour palette to choose from when desigining the kits (i designed these new ones myself, as the last ones were the most awful things i've ever seen), but the current westlakes committee doesn't feel it is in a position like the newcastle jets or cardiff city (wales) to go changing the clubs colours (particularly after 47 years of wearing them) so we do the best we can with them. and, even though i have bias, i think we've done an amazing job with this new jersey top (big shout out to x-advantage at maitland, too easy to deal with for fully sublimated kits with the best playing material i've ever worn, & works out cheaper than anywhere else, plus cheaper than buying kits off prodirect & getting numbers/logos/etc pressed on afterwards, if prodirect is kind enough to stock your club colours and design you want).
sorry if i was attacking charly with the kits, i was under the impression their light blue kit was their main one and the claret was possibly a secondary/away kit. thought it was odd, under that impression, that they'd pick (as i said) the closest colour to purple they could find to wear as a secondary kit. but it's their main one, all good. westlakes have a new away kit ready to be picked up (it's white), we'll wear that to the return leg & avoid any chance of clashing.
to the game, i thought westlakes had the least possession they have had all year (although i didn't get to see medowie last week) and it was pretty upsetting, particularly in the first half, how much we turned the ball over. the second half, charly seemed to really give up. agree while that westlakes could have scored more, the goals they got were helped in by charly. particularly the two last ones, the right footer from outside the box was what should have been so simple for the keeper (he had an off day, yeah?) and the last goal between the defender(s) and the keepers they basically passed it into their own goals.
as true waterboy said, the people yelling that stuff were not apart of the club. but they were briefly spoken to after the game. before charly leave on their high horse, maybe they should remember that one of those families from charly brought a big sign that said "we love dick" on it. while most people can take that in context, i imagine many of the kids in said families aren't smart enough to take it purely in context, and have probably learned a new word to bring to the schoolyard this week #justsayin
Parents had to explain that dick is a nickname for people called richard??
No wonder dick smith never had any success.....
I would like to think that wouldnt have caused any offence to anyone.
Slightly different to someone screaming "you're a sh^t c*nt number 8"
#ohthehumanity
And i hope u didnt think i was having a go at your kit, was just joking cos, as you said, it is an odd mix of colours, but thats why your guys wear it with pride every week.
Congrats to Medowie on their first win of the season. Knowing their coach personally, he is a good bloke and got thrown in their late which is always tough and after a few heavy defeats I know he would be relieved.
Onto our debacle - absolutely no disrespect to Tenambit here who continue to appear to be a well run club who do bring juniors through which is refreshing - but our performance as a club yesterday was disgraceful and I hope many within read this.
Reserve grade was one of the worst displays of football in recent memory, with Tenambit not having a serious attempt on goal (I did miss a small part of second half) and Jesmond playing well below par. The only redeeming feature is the 3 points which at this stage of the season and considering our spot on the ladder can be argued is the most important thing. 1-0 win to Jesmond and in something I've never seen in football, a ram ended the day a shark. Like something out of a storybook really.
I've congratulated Medowie above and would like to do the same to Tenambit on their first win of the season. Again a pretty ordinary game that if I was a neutral I would have quite easily collected my pie (or pies) and coke and pi$$ed off elsewhere for the afternoon. Both teams look as flat as I've seen prior to the game, Jesmond were able to create 2 or 3 half chances early of which one needed to be taken. The first goal came from a silly free kick given away out wide and then one of our seasons better players has headed the ball back into trouble rather than seeing out for a goal kick and our defence was flat footed leaving their player one on one with our gk. We thought we had addressed things at half time but to the young blokes credit, a quality volley from a partially cleared corner saw Tenambit up 2-0 and from there we struggled.
After starting the season with 3 consecutive wins we are now back in the pack and not it's not undeserved. Sure we have injuries to key players but I suspect we are not Robinson Crusoe in this regard. Saying all the right things in the sheds is all well and good but if we don't carry that onto the pitch then it means bugger all and if we don't get our act together we might as well book our flights for the first week of the semis.... We missed them last year because we didn't beat the weaker teams after having beat EVERY top team, most convincingly, and if we don't pull our heads in 2013 will be a replay.
Gotto admit i loved that sign, I know a few friends that got a few photos of it. seemed like a bunch of characters. after westlakes first goal they turned it around to a blank sign and said yeah thats what we have to say about that.
I love it when there is a big crowd getting stuck into the game. Best thing about playing teams like hamilton who have passionate supporters is that you know that you are going to get shit screamed at you. Love playing a game with atmosphere even if its against me, dont like the swearing infront of families tho.
I agree the swearing being yelled was much worse, I didn't even attempt to defend it. I just wanted azzuri fans to realise they weren't the greatest role models on the day either.
regards to the dick thing - it's all about context innit. which is what I said
I think if you read my post my comment about hamilton's supporters it was actually a compliment. I enjoy playing hamilton because of the atmosphere, which im sure we would agree is mostly directed at me.
I agree there were unsavoury comments made by BOTH teams players/bench and supporters which offended players of BOTH clubs.
The incident in question was actually bought up at a commitee meeting following the game and an appropriate outcome was decided, and im sure a similar thing happened with your guys. On the day there was a 10 minute period where the supporters/players got out of hand following a dangerous tackle but i think you would agree that the atmosphere before this made it an enjoyable game to play in either ressies or firsts.
Im not going to comment more on that issue, it was unacceptable and ive witnessed authorities from both sides address the matter.
I will agree that both sides were acting like goats, myself included, and that comments were made from both sides that shouldnt have been said, but hey thats what happens in the heat of the moment. Doesnt condone it but. I apologised to my teamates and our coach gave us an almighty rocket which we deserved. Since that day our behaviour has improved massively. I guess on game day both teams are going in 100% and nobody wants to give an inch, which is what makes the game fun and the main reason im still involved.
Its all good. The moment I ran out in ressies i coped a heap from you guys which was great to see and its the reason i enjoy playing you guys.
Its just sad that last game in firsts it got out of hand.
Im looking forward to the away trip to hamo. I can assure you there wont be a repeat.
[QUOTE=ramsbelong@jesmondpark;37685] and in something I've never seen in football, a ram ended the day a shark. Like something out of a storybook really. [QUOTE]
To add to this he was a shark once before and i belive after his last year with us he then joined u guys and will now return to the sharks.
The performance from our res grade squad was by far 10 times better then the previous two games and after a bit of a dressing down thru the week for the previous game we came out and really worked hard on the areas that we were poor in thise games. And even tho we did not get the win or any points we were happy with the effort put in. For the fact the goal could have and should have been shut down well before the shot and me being the goal keeper not having to do as much work as previous weeks we will build on that and now we just need to work on our front third and create a few shots on goal our selfs.
Thanks we as a team have never thought it would be too far away as every game we have been in it just not taking the chances and once we learnt to the points would start falling our way.Quote:
I've congratulated Medowie above and would like to do the same to Tenambit on their first win of the season. .
Any way watching this game from the bench i was more then impressed how Tenambit went about things even after losing a key player to injury early on we still went about our buisness. We pressed well in defence and looked as solid as we always have and after creating a few chances ourselfs we finally took one thru one of our younger players in his first start for the season. But our second goal was quite a strike with our CB picking up the loose ball at the top of the box and hitting it as sweetly a he always does at training into the top corner to give us the two goal buffer. Which was threatened by our own defender with a miss time clearance cracking the post.
Another great contest in this league and with other results i think only goes to prove my point on how close it will be till seasons end.
Jeez...sideline swearing and onfield urgency for a win...what's next ? are you guys serious ?
haha we talk about all the big issues in world football here in ZL2
