I seen there first game against Terrace and there didn't seem to be any big difference should be a cracker of a game this weekend
Round 4 just out... NBN- Magic Vs Phoenix... Edgeworth Bye
Easy win for the magic
Anyone going to watch the hayne plane tonight
Magic team is mostly U23's. Valo looked better for the first 20 minutes, missed a sitter after 5.
Full Time- Broadmeadow Magic 0- Valentine 1
dudley wallsend 2 - 2 and like 100-99 on penalties with dudley winning.
swansea uni - swansea win 2-1
What a joke,
Watched Magic 23's (3 first team regulars) vs phoenix (full strength 1st grade)
I wished i never wasted my time going to blacksmiths to watch crap like what i saw lastnight..
big credit to Pheonix for taking this comp seriously and having a go.
MAGIC either your to big for the sport, or you truly believed that your 23,s would do the job for ya. WRONG
The poor kids looked lost out there last night...
WHY enter the comp,
they're actually forced to enter it, unless i'm mistaken.
maybe it was part of magic's bargaining efforts to entice/keep their 23s players that they'd be given a go in the state cup. clubs can do what they want. if their 23s can hold a full-strength first grade side to 1 goal, that's not a bad effort imo. those 23s will be better off for the experience - much better off than not playing, letting their first grade play, and boozing for a weekend in coffs.
it's all about priorities innit. wigan win the fa cup, yet get relegated from the epl, because manure/arsenal/etc are playing their youth/reserves in those cup competitions - not only to preserve their players, but to give their lower players a run.
like i said - magic probably promised a large part of their 23s players a run in the state cup in a way to entice them to the club, or keep them from signing for another club. imo this is only making their 23s players stronger, and thus making the overall competition stronger.
I've tried to stay out of your rants but enough is enough. Why should Magic take the cup serious when the Fed don't? Why risk your first graders when your in the box seat to win the premiership? If you ask me it's a huge risk for a huge club like Magic who have something to loose and nothing to gain out of it but on the other hand clubs like VPFC, Lakes and Southy who are looking at a nothing season have to play their main squad as it's the only chance to win silverware.
Your joking right... dont be upset because you (southy) lost to lakes 4-0 in round 2 of the cup because you played your 19's... The coaches can pick from whoever they please from the senior squad. And if a predominately U23'd based team can keep a full strength first grade team to 1-0 i agree with PV4, good on them, it just validates their position on the ladder in the senior grades...
Its no secret Magic has a lot of injuries in the defence and midfield ATM so why risk those players? it was a first grade attack except for haynes who was rested. I'm sure the coaches would have intended to win as the cup is help on an off weekend anyways and an all expenses paid holiday to coffs probably sounds good too. Our responsibility to the comp was to last 2 more rounds than southy did... mission accomplished.
Southy have already won the state cup, we don't need to be greedy , and before you ask I won't be at the game on Sunday unfortunately
From memory Magic have won it more times than Sthy. If my memory serves me correct Southy supporters and others involved in the club made a fool of themselves and were involved in some ugly and unsportsmanlike behaviour on that occasion. Does anybody else recall??
Any player won state cup with two teams ? I can think of one
Thought id chuck in a trivia question in amongst all the dribble going on.
How about Bowlo, Shane Paul and that great turk player Hakan Canli.
Any scores from today
Urunga beat Edgy on penalties according to nnswf Facebook.
Urunga may be my 2nd fave side now. :yay:
Even more of a reason to have a north coast base club in the NPL or 2nd division at least
But if it was a proper and fair draw with the stronger sides going up to the semi's rather than half ZPL being sides and the other half being NBN/NEWFM sides then would the NPL side get a look in? Just trying to say that this can't used as an example of why they should be put into the comp. Has been tried before and failed each time mainly due to expense.
The whole point of the NPL is to make state league clubs more professional and make sure any kid with talent doesn't go unnoticed and has a clear pathway if clubs cannot afford a trip to Coffs Harbour once a year then they shouldn't be in the comp as to the said northern based club traveling expanses surely NNSWF can help them out in someway.
