Rumours I have read is Connor Pain looking to get out of MV for first team football. Has more pace than our entire squad combined.
Would be underwhelming and under deliver so perfect for us.
Agree mate, would have Williams in a heartbeat over the likes of Caceres or Kalmar. Over the years whether it was Fury or City he has scored some solo goals or belters that not many other players in the A League could match. Has never really settled in at Melbourne City, maybe a change in Newy could do him good. I would rate him as an above average player, Kalmar is just another squad player while Caceres is another young player who has shown some good potential...but we have enough of those already in the squad.
If we have $420k to play with, there is no excuse if we cannot entice Williams here....plus we've got the lifestyle and the beaches:wink:
There is also some talk of us chasing Corey Brown from Brizzy to replace Leaky G. Happier to hear that we are chasing the likes of Williams and Pain and Brown, would love us to try and get someone like Clut from Brisbane as well. But we will probably re sign Allan Welsh
Pain is on a minimal wage, would come cheap.
Think you are right member, anyway with the limited resources we have available in the Jan window spending some of it on a LB or any defender would be a total waste of money, which we can ill afford to do. We have decent enough defensive stocks both in the squad and the Youth to cover any losses.
We need to spend $$$ in the front third or else we will be collecting our second spoon in two seasons....hope that's the last I here Brown or any defenders name mentioned again on this thread FFS!!!
Newcastle Jets set to bolster playing roster

LONG-TERM: CEO David Eland insists the Jets are not after a quick fix.
CHIEF executive David Eland expects the Jets to have at least one new face in the squad for the next home game against Wellington.
The sale of Lee Ki-je to Ulsan Hyundai and on-going knee issues with Leonardo has stretched an already thin squad.
The A-League transfer window opened on Tuesday.
“We will be making some announcements in the next couple of days,” Eland said.
“The transfer of Lee Ki-je has enabled the club to take advantage of some of the salary-cap concessions that weren’t available before.
“The level of commitment is there from the FFA. Now we just have to find the right players. We are rebuilding the club and are looking for players to contribute beyond this season.”
Fingers crossed the player in question is David Williams. He is more renowned as a wide player but I have seen him play as a striker for City/Heart.
Pain wouldn't be available for 3 weeks as he is away with the Olyroos, don't think we can afford to wait and anyway I don't think he is a big impact player like Williams.
I wouldn't knock Pain as a player.
Watched him play Yoof a few years ago for the Tards and he was killing it.
Got a look into the HAL side and then has had scraps with Tards buying name players and not giving him a fair run.
I am sure we would cripple the kids career being we are shit and all but their is no reason why he couldn't become a very good player in the HAL if given the opportunity
im suss on him. Bloke has little arms, like a carney.
no wonder he never takes throwins.
no thanks Middleby.
Seriously some people have NFI, have seen it twice in the last week or so people on The Herald's website calling for the club to bring back Bridges

We tried that experiment it didn't produce a positive result.

Yeah agree with the comments about Pain, no doubting he has potential but he won't be available for another 4 games if we sign him....we need someone now.
Is he in the same class as a MacLaren for Roar or Ferreira to the Gypos for example who is going to come into our side and make a difference....doubt it very much.
We have enough squaddies, we need game-breakers.
Williams is a solid A-League player. He's not the most consistent striker / forward in the game but at least he is a known quantity. If he does come to the Jets I hope they don't continue the trend and pay him overs or offer him a long contract. Unfortunately, with the club needing goals I can see Williams manager exploiting it [and so he should] and the Jets once again paying way too much.
