I agree Goodwin could go back to LB. Has more pace than Pepper to get back, and won't have as much pressure on him to attack. Usually when FBs attack only a few times a game, it's more unexpected and not as easily defended.
Yeah I was just thinking this morning, why has Goodwin not had a run at LB recently, I know he maybe did a little earlier in the season? But it's obvious Gallaway hasn't really been performing that well, Goodwin is actually a LB by trade, well he was until coming here. Also we would actually suit having over-lapping wing-backs.
If we re-sign Kew and Goody, we'll only have 6 spots left on our roster (5 if Ox is counted) - not really gonna be the new managers squad!
He can always terminate contracts
Surely there wont be any re-signings till the new manager is appointed? I assume the jets have someone pretty much lined up already?.. Actually knowing our club, probably not.
You're assuming they haven't been in communication with someone for several months as a replacement, this is what SHOULD have been happening. Obviously it hasn't happened as we would have announced the replacement straight away if that was the case.
Bit of a knee jerk firing by the club, obviously things had soured a fair bit. Typically unprofessional behaviour though, normal service etc etc.
If the club terminates it then yes. If it's a "mutual agreement" (aka technically there's no severance package, even though clubs give it to them on the sly), then the cap space is free. Ange Postecoglu was a genius at swindling the "mutual agreement" type deal. The FFA bend over for Victory & Sydney to allow them to keep the cap space, but other clubs find it harder to do so (what's that about)
Of the remaining players not re-signed, I'd only sign Kew and Goody. Why wait for these signings especially Kew
So happy to go with Zane for the rest of the season?
Don't get me wrong I wanted Gary to go, never rated him to be honest, you can find heaps of threads on here with me complaining about his terrible team selection and formation, misuse of Heskey etc.
I would have much rather had someone lined up ready to slot straight in prior to sacking GvE. Again things must have been even worse behind the scenes with players / management and GvE for him to get the flick with no-one ready to step in.
Edit: I'm playing devils advocate as much as anythign
Ideally, yes that would have been the preferred situation, but as you point out things must have been bad for it to come to this.
The club simply cannot afford to not reach another finals series. Realistically we have been the least successful team over the last 3 seasons in so much as every other team has made the finals at least once since we have. We don't want this to be the fourth.
The last time we made the Finals - Season 5, 2010.
