so where are the new players?
not buying the 'in England' excuse - it is possible to organise getting Joel Griffiths autograph on a contract while overseas
all you need is a piece of paper and a pen
scott miller must go
I Thought i saw something on twitter, regarding a signing to be announced by end of this week. i guess that was the announcement of Beechwood and not a new player.
any info on whether we have started talking to some potential players now that JP is on board i would have thought he would be leading most of this in Miller's absence and due to his knowledge of the league?
Beech Wood is blonde headed bloke. constructs a good midfield
Isn't that what our illustrious Football Manager, Mr Pascoe is there for?
Thought his role entailed helping recruit players and contracts etc.
His role is officially in a "Acting" capacity, lets just hope it stays that way until Miller brings in someone who is truly professional and knowledgeable and who is looking after the club's best interests.....not about pushing his own agenda.
Before Miller went back to england to pack up. He and JP sat down for a day and went through a heap of names for potential recruits/scouting. If they decided there was someone they liked then it would get handed over to Pascoe to do the wheeling and dealing...
In regards to a potential signing by the end of the week, i heard we're signing atleast 1 of the players we let go. Whether that happens this week or happens at all i dont know. But chances are it would've been the Beechwood deal
Don't get me wrong I think that Thompson's expertise coming from a football background is just what this club needs, BUT I would be wary giving him the majority stakehold in the club if it is a consortium of owners. Will his priority be this club, OUR club or does he see owning the Newcastle Jets as an opportunity with the ultimate goal of benefitting his Dundee United???
All I say is FFA, take your time and do your due diligence, you can't afford to mess this one up not only for the good of the game in this region but probably for the whole credibility of the A League too.
Lets not jump into bed with the next available
FFA have said they are talking to 6-7 parties and Thompson has said he wants a consortium, the community part has reared its head too. He has also said many times that this has nothing to do with Dundee United so the continued murmurs of colour changes et al befuddle me. He is in it as a private investor.
I am confident that the FFA are doing everything to get this right. An NDA doesn't mean a done deal - I've had two cross my desk this week. Doesnt guarantee a business agreement though.
Internet has told me we're linked with Bobby Zamora and Leo Bertos.
Zamora would walk this league
Obviously don't want bertos at this age or even 5 years ago for that matter.
If a marquee like Zamora is signed, we would have to imagine that behind the scenes the FFA are pretty well advanced with new ownership and confident those possible parties happy at forking out for a marquee.
I would join the squadron just to sing some of the bobby Zamora songs
Zamora. Yuck, I'd rather bring back Emile
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhSab5mgL84
Id take him!
YouTube highlights show he has the goods, we can't go wrong by signing him.
Why do other clubs scout all around the world for a marquee while we just seem to limit ourselves to the EPL?
Some of the best imports to come to the A League (who weren't even necessarily marquees) never played in the EPL.....Broich, Berisha, Hernandez, Janko, Carrusca, Patrick Zwaanzjik (sorry for the spelling) etc.
Either we get someone who is still in their prime or forget about it, very rarely has a marquee in their mid-30's been a success in the A League.
English bias aside, it's players like Zamora who have a nose for goal and are also a bit of a kunt that will do the business.
Andy Keogh was always more of a wide man in a front 3 at Wolves, but he is a great point man given the current standard of our league's defence.
Getting "a name" from the epl is a less risky move from an off field perspective.
Heskey is a prime example, rubbish on the field, but sold shirts, got column inches in papers and got bums on seats.
Get a no name who might well be the next Thomas brooch and you run the risk of him being both shit on the field and worthless off it.
"A name" from the epl is a safer bet.
From the epl? Because that's what most peripheral football fans know about.
But Zamora isn't just any name from the EPL. There is the connection with Miller. I have no problem with Miller using his Fulham connections for recruitment
The only 34+ type of players to come out here should be the likes of your Pirlo's, Ibra's and Gerrard's players that are world class.
Anything else is throwing money at a horse that's already bolted.
Zamora would walk this league sign him up
Nick Cowburn has been invited to train with the first team in order to attempt to impress the new coaching staff to earn a contract.
Its because finding a broich, berisha etc isnt that easy. For every one of those there has been a number a absolute bombs.
De Groot, Drovandi, Hakansson. And they are just some of the Jets ones.
Even the most successful team in A-league, Victory, have had terrible ones. Riccardinho, Leandro Love, Jonathan Bru (and he was one of Anges, the master!)
Im just saying its all well and good to say go and find these guys, but they obviously aren't that easy to find and to get them to perform.
Excellent news, but IMO it's the new coaching staff that need to impress Nick. We have lost Scott Neville, our main right back, and also Peppz who it pained me when referred to as a backup RB but still.
Our only current options for RB are Daniel Mullen, and possibly Themba Muata-Marlow (I'll be honest, I have zero idea if he plays CB or wide back). And if Miller/JPdM watch Mullen at RB for the Wanderers in the league, they'll realise how awful a choice that is, and that Mullen should ONLY be considered at CB.
So we have no right backs, yet have in our grasp someone who performed superbly for us last season. IMO it's a disgrace we're treating Nick with such distance.
I think we are actually already taking this strategy of finding decent imports in their prime rather than the EPL over 35's squad.
Leaky Jeans and Allo'Allo'vodic are unknowns in their prime, but we are only paying them good money instead of marquee money. It's like we are playing the import pokies and betting 20c at a time instead of TCF $5 hits like Victory/Shitney?
