a. I'm not for any type of marriage gay or straight. What I am for though is protecting the rights of others whether I agree with them or not.
b. I voted Yes because I am a libertarian [Thought certainly not in the modern economic interpretation of the word] . Which unfortunately is a concept not too many people understand.
forza laissez-faire capitalism or is this a little redunstant these days
It's a pedagogical tool used in textbooks hawk - it has absolutely no practical usage anywhere else. It's not logically consistent, doesn't differentiate between stocks and flows... and relies on trickery like auctioneers and representative agents to fudge the fact that given the same information people act differently - not the same as the textbook models suggest.
Then there is the fact that traditional market capitalism died more than 40 years ago anyway - the current system is plutocratic - where the bulk of the wealth lies in fewer hands than it did in the past - the shrinking middle.
You just can't script this...
I wonder who signed off on the design of this statue of St Dominic that was 'erected' out the front of a Catholic school in Adelaide..

Oh my lawd.
Surely that’s just a ‘bad’ angle?
is there a good angle to look at a child touching a priest's wang?
So Triple-J has changed the date of the Hottest 100 so as not to celebrate 'invasion day' or some such bullshit.
Well thats good looks like racism is fixed.
so cheers for that.
oh wait, the day after is a saturday so you'll still be able to have yer parties etc etc etc.
always good when your social activism matches up to a day off work.
its a term a bunch of white people with very high opinions of themselves use to make sure that even though they really dont care about indigenous folk it makes them feel good about applying 2017 sensibilities to events that happened over 200 years ago.
because on 27th January 1788 the Indigenous folk had it sooooooo much better so break out the party pies lads we can celebrate guilt free.
look i'm no massive bleeding heart pinko but "australia day" as we know it was first celebrated what, 23 years ago...and the white man, regardless of whether you feel any guilt or not about what happened in the past - has pretty much given the original inhabitants of this land short fkn shrift for the last 200+ years...possibly from this particular date.
it doesn't take a genius, either black or white to figure out why people might actually have a problem with the idea behind the day, and about blokes rippin' it up and havin' a barbie etc, while a great whack of the Aboriginal population is in prison, on the dole or suffering from chronic disease at considerably greater rates than the wider population
i'm not a smart man so i dunno what plague is even trying to say - but even if you aren't going to chip in to go and help Aboriginal people, at least you can acknowledge the inherent disadvantage they're at in pretty much every single metric we have in terms of quality of life.
straya easily one of the greatest countries in the world, but maybe we should have a bit of introspection instead of tooting the horn like a madman. have a couple of tins and have a think. same with ANZAC day tbh - a ripper day to have a few tins and a think. how aussie is that?
hottest 100 over 2 days on the last weekend of january is also a ripper idea, didn't it used to be on new years day, anyway?
and what i meant by "have a think", is have a think about how fkn great it is to live in a country where you don't get bombed to death in the morning before you wake up, can get a living wage (in a shit job but at least you aren't getting bombed) and fruit and vegetables like you wouldn't believe and you can buy three cuts of spring lamb for 10 bucks and it is delicious, my god how good is that? christ.
just appreciate it and don't be a penis about it ffs.
nothing should be celebrated end of january. theres a fking yr of work that is just put in front of you if you can get a job that is.
It is a great month for a war though. Kind of puts the jan blues to bed.
Now, lemme get back to my research of when triple J turned to aids
nah, you are a smart man and your ANZAC day comment is pretty much what im getting at.
ANZAC day is a day when a bunch of Brits royally ****ed us over and a bunch of Turks wiped out a bunch of young blokes who didnt stand a chance.
but
ANZAC day isnt spent abusing, or blaming the Turks. Its about understanding what happened, embracing the fact that we dont do that shit anymore and in the immortal words of Julia Gillard and Mark Jones "moving forward". As you said having a few tins and a feed isnt being disrespectful to anybody.
If your local pollie wanted to ban all Oktoberfest parties because of what the Germans did in WW2 would we all be happy with that? I mean how dare we celebrate when the poor Jews got wiped out right?
Im not referencing Oz day specifically, (that discussion has been had), but this constant babble that the attitudes of 1788 are still prevalent today and how dare you celebrate your culture is what irks me.
We've improved all facets of our lives, we finally treat chicks, the gheys and the immigrants 50 billion times better now that what we did back then (and better than a lot of countries still do today).
I dont have anything to feel guilty about.
Pass me a t-bone please.
Just move Straya Day to the 8th of May already ffs
