Northern NSW had a comp years ago (in the 80's) that had a few teams from Newcastle, one each form Tamworth, Grafton, Coffs etc. It only lasted one or two years then folded.

Air fares and motel fees were killing the clubs. Clubs were richer back then than they are at the moment aswell.

I have an idea. If the home club calls a game off, then the opposing club should be able to make a call on whether their ground can accommodate the game. So if the Jafs call a game off because their ground is too wet, and they have major players out, and fields either side of them have league and football playing on them, then Magic would have the option of taking that game to their home ground to be played. This would also counter the ridiculous situation a couple seasons ago where rescheduled games were being played at the end of the season when the game was originally called off 2 or three weeks into the season.
Rescheduled games must now be played on the Wednesday of the week after the original fixture, so teams can't withhold them to suit themselves. I like your idea, but most clubs, I would have thought, wouldn't have enough time to rally the troops to prepare everything they needed to for the fixtures that would start in an hour and a half.
Fair call. BUT. The alternative is you play on the Wednesday evening as you say and selling red frogs and maybe 10 or 20 steaks so really you dont end up making any money from a mid week encounter not to mention the cost of lights... Id say most clubs have half decent canteens usually with enough stock in them to carry them over for a "unscheduled" event.
I also think most people would rather watch a game of football than worry about gourmet menu and eating at the game. Probably inclined to have a couple beers and a red frog.
As i said this would be an "option" and in todays case i could not see Magic not willing to play the game at their home ground. It would help in deterring these types of situations. Am i to assume that the game will need to be played this Wednesday? So the Jafs will have to call off the game again on Wednesday if indeed they are buying time for a depleted team?
Either team still in the state cup? If so, what game is the more important to be played on Wednesday?
Jaffas had the bye and magic played last week, so no problems with state cup
