Sydney are assembling a very big squad.
Will still be terrible in defense though. But I suppose the idea of the game is to score more goals than your opposition does.
They just signed Warren, but I can't see him starting ahead of Rhyan Grant who was excellent at LB for them when he played there this year.
Emerton said the other day he wants to play more centrally aswell, so their wide workhorse even doesn't want to play wide. They'll probably end up with a Vieira/Makelele-days-France-esque horseshoe in the middle, and as you said get their width from the wide backs.
Ah, forgot about Grant. He was there everywhere man though... what is his actual position?
Do they not have the same salary cap or is it that their owners aren't as stingy
If you compare SFC's squad to Melbourne's a couple of seasons back, it still isn't quite as impressive imo, at least not in terms of the big names.
Melbourne Victory 2011-12 Big Names
Harry Kewell
Archie Thompson
Carlos Hernández
Jean Carlos Solórzano (after his outstanding season for Brisbane)
Marco Rojas
Isaka Cernak (when he was rated one of the hottest prospects after playing for the Fury)
Adrian Leijer
+ later arrivals of Ante Covic, Mark Milligan and Julius Davies
Sydney FC 2013-14 Big Names
Alessandro Del Piero
Nick Carle
Brett Emerton
Joel Griffiths
Corey Gameiro
Terry McFlynn ( )
Rojas wasn't really a big name back then
What the Thomas and pv4 said. He had a huge amount of hype around him after his performances for Wellington, he was one of the hottest prospects in the league alongside Halloran imo.
Overall the quality of the squad MV assembled was far better imo (at least on paper), but I'd bet SFC are operating at a similar squad salary to them.
Dean Heffernan has been signed by Western Sydney Wanderers. Why, I'm not sure.
