What's this red bar next to profile? Oh I see, people don't like an opinion on here.
Clearly we can't have a sensible discussion about matters relating to the team.
Hmmm it won't let me add further dislike
Griff not captain. WE RIOT!!
....expletives..... I thought we were creating a new culture?
The captaincy has gone to the leading candidate - get over it.
Griff can still lead from the front.
A player doesn't need the symbol of an armband to be a leader
And I suppose Griff will graciously allow Kew to do the coin toss on Tuesday as well?
My 10 week old so was staring at a picture of the grand final win tonight. Thought it was a great opportunity up teach about Griff. Seemed to like the recount and smiled when I said Griff scored. Loves him already.
hail the great lord

The good decisions keep coming from the Jets and Stubbins. Reckon the next step is to get one of the younger players with a half decent head on his shoulders and longer term future at the Jets as his Vice Captain. While Jaliens is the logical his age and his penchant for the odd yellow card means a fall back and future plan is pretty important.

Kew was the obvious choice. Now to wait for the "what about Giffo" comments from the "fan boys" lol

Regardless of what others may think, I doubt Griffiths was ever in the frame. Too high-risk and Stubby has not come over as a dummy so far. Jaliens seems to possess the tactical nous to lead on the field and was probably the most logical pick for the 'right-now.' That said, I agree with CA's observations as regards the longer-term. Yes, it's early days, but given Stubby's performance to date, I can't see any evidence of the myopic, short-term vision that has plagued us in the past. I'll keep faith that Stubby is looking at the future, and not just the coming season, to make this club consistently competitive. Which is nothing more than what us long-suffering, faithful members deserve.

Good onya G, warming up for the coming season. I'm doing a bit of a pre season in here, getting a few nibbles from the same ol, same ol's ! I agree, I don't think Griff was ever in the picture and common sense was always going to prevail.I don't mind the look of Stubby so far, it's all looking fairly good. The club has ever only had short term captains and they usually are shown the door and I don't see any youngsters being around long enough. Probably, a season at a time is all that we can really look ahead to and with Kew at the helm, I don't think you would get too many that would disagree with that. Enjoy the season G and let's hope it's a good one.

I'm with you Crackers, it had to be Kew. Thank goodness it wasn't Griffiths, no doubt his crazed disciples will be upset. Well done Stubby, I don't mind that decision at all ! Don't get too carried away CA, there's no long termers at this club and I'm sure Laurel and Hardy in admin will make their usual ridiculous decisions as the season moves on, you just got to wait for them!

kew is a dirty player - fell on purpose on top of delpiero last year and injured him - not a good leader

A somewhat deluded comment Bowie, we're talking about the captaincy here and thankfully, Griffiths wasn't made that. I was hoping that things would be a bit better for you this year, obviously, things are still clouded!

Why would YOU be hoping for ME to be keeping up with things Bowie, any particular reason? I've got no interest in who gets the vice captaincy. My comment concerned the CAPTAINCY and thankfully, it wasn't Norman Bates !. (The lunatics are more concerned with what I comment about than giving their own opinion about the story at hand)

Griffiths was never in the frame Billy, Kew gets a few cards and injuries so its a fair bet Griffiths will be captain at some point .The appointment was widely reported by lunchtime yesterday.
He looks in fine form. Can't wait to see him after a full preseason
as jeterpool said he doesnt need the armband to be a leader
As I said to pv4, he was such a good bloke missing that volley. It would have been far too easy for him to score it, so feeling bad he decided to miss it.
What a top bloke.
Juventus behind closed doors. This sums it up from the great one. Stretch out a bit while signing autographs.
Been a bit quiet the talk about this bloke lately.
Praise Griff
Cause in a season that looks like going to shite before it starts and the degree of apathy setting in with the fans towards these ****s is reaching some type of record level their is a beacon of hope that the future will not be 27 ritual sodomisings with a star picket.

Don't know if this has been posted before but there's some great quotes by the man himself. http://www.a-league.com.au/article/v...c1oxptcbf1mvzh
Griff Laying some truth bombs:gent:Quote:
AS a receptionist, Joel Griffiths makes a hell of a striker.
The evergreen Jets No.9 and 2008 Johnny Warren Medal winner has taken the first step towards life after football.
Griffiths, wife Bianca and childhood friend Jeff Sawtell have opened an Aussie Home Loans franchise at The Junction.
Though prepared to be the face of the business and man the front desk when available, Griffiths’ main focus is the Jets.
And top of the list is making amends for an ‘‘unacceptable’’ 4-1 capitulation to Wellington Phoenix.
‘‘We were pumped by Wellington Phoenix in all aspects,’’ Griffiths said.
‘‘Everyone is to blame.
‘‘I’m pretty sure the 11 players who started and even the ones who came off the bench would say they could have done more, whether through their actions on the field or something they could have said in the dressing sheds.
‘‘We weren’t compact enough and played as individuals rather than a team.
‘‘The fans have every right to get on our backs. That was unacceptable. That is not the way Newcastle fight for their jersey. Every player would be thinking the same.’’
Despite the inept display across the ditch, Griffiths believes it is not all gloom and doom.
‘‘Everyone is predicting us to get the wooden spoon,’’ Griffiths said. ‘‘That’s the challenge for us – to prove people wrong.
‘‘Yes, we have a lot to work on, but it’s only the third game.
‘‘The first two games, especially, we showed that we can compete.
‘‘I spoke to [former Jet] Andrew Durante after the Phoenix game.
‘‘When they lost to Perth in the opening game – they had ended the pre-season with a four-game losing streak – he was thinking, ‘I’m over this. I don’t know what to do. I am out of answers.’ He didn’t want out of the club, but he was down in the dumps.
‘‘Then they beat Central Coast 2-1 and pumped us.
‘‘All of a sudden he is on top of the world.
‘‘They are sitting fourth and he feels like his team are in contention.
‘‘That is what it takes. A couple of wins, a couple of things to go your way, a bit of self-belief, and all of a sudden you are back in it.
‘‘That is the good thing in sport: you always have next week to make amends.’’
Next for the Jets is a trip to Perth, where their lone A-League win was a 1-0 triumph in the inaugural season, nine years ago.
Before meeting the Jets on Saturday, the Glory host Melbourne Victory in a quarter-final of the FFA Cup at nib Stadium on Wednesday.
Although the west has been a graveyard for the Jets, Griffiths has fared well, scoring four goals in seven visits.
‘‘It is a tough place to play, but I enjoy it,’’ he said.
‘‘The main thing is we have to be a team against Perth, otherwise we will cop the same result.’’
Griffiths opened his season account with a header against the Phoenix.
‘‘I know I’m 35, but my body feels good,’’ he said.
‘‘I’m not as quick as I used to be, but I still have an eye for goal.’’
After starting on the right wing, Griffiths was moved centrally when Jeronimo replaced Edson MontaƱo in the 54th minute and coach Phil Stubbins reverted to a 4-4-2 formation.
‘‘It is nice to get a goal,’’ Griffiths said. ‘‘In a situation like that you have to try and get something out of the game, some confidence.
‘‘I have played alongside Jeronimo before and it worked OK.
‘‘He is lacking confidence at the moment, but we all know what he can do from his Adelaide days.’’
Off contract, Griffiths intends to play on for at least another season. He is also a realist. ‘‘My body feels good, but I’m 35, and at the end of the day that is what people look at. That is the reason for opening the business.
‘‘ Initially Bianca will be doing most of the work. She is a licensed mortgage broker, has a couple of degrees and is multi-talented.
‘‘Days off I will devote to the business.
‘‘I will be learning off Bianca and our business partner, Jeff.’’
He ****ing gave it large to the players for not coming over at full time except kew, regan and Virgilli who came with him.. He's shaking people's hands going not good enough. As they pondered across.
