In my first post I will weigh in to the cookers bero fiasco yesterday and it was just that. Res yes cookers deserved the win not by a long way but still they did. Firsts draw was prob a fair result in the end. 70% better cooks hill no chance 50/50 in my opinion. Bero were pretty flat in firsts and just weren't theirselves if I'm being honest. It will be scary when there's a consistent full squad to pick every week but enough about that.
I have been playing football since the age of 6. And it's my understanding its basically an unwritten law that the home side should have a contingency in place in the event of no refs. Last week vs trono both games bero refs and linesmans. We had no issue that was fine in our opinion that's the way it should be. Ok in some circumstance you can help out at an away game, but if you get asked to help out when the home side have 5 or 6 blokes sitting on the bench with a finger up their bum you reckon they might help out first?. 40min halves played due to the ref in firsts not having a stopwatch and someone on the cookers bench pulling the half up at 40. How long we been playing 45 for?. And on to the beers. As like namwob and many others I encourage having a few delicious ones on the sidelines and after the games. It's a constitution as far as I'm concerned. But when the coach and reserve grade players and supporters are all drinkin green grenades in the technical area, that is disgraceful and disrespectful. The technical area should be just that. It is ZL3 and its not the most professional but drinkin there is not on you won't see that an any sport. Sort it out cookers. Nuff said

A little tip to dungog though, when you know there will be 30 ppl coming to the ground from the away team you should put on some hot food!

What a difference a week makes, after a horror run of 3 losses in the space of 6 days we finally had a win, all this again without our full complement of players. Instead of 15 players like last weekend, we improved with 20 players. With 4/5 players hopefully returning in the next week or 2 our first grade side is just getting into its grove and the boys that will drop back to ressies will improve them as well.
Ressies was a good solid game, pretty physical but with I think a first grader in the middle both teams got away with a lot more than if there was a regular ref. 1-1 was a fair result with both teams having their chances but neither able to capitalize. I’m not having a go at the refs from Kurri btw, they did a good job, it almost got out of hand at one stage but he settled it down pretty well.
First grade again was fairly physical due to lack of ref (seems to be a common problem in this comp). Our goal came from an errant back pass with our striker left 1 on 1 with the keeper which he pretty nicely slotted in the far corner. Going in at 1-0 at half time was a strange feeling after the last 3 games lol but we were confident. Safe to say Kurri played all over us the last 20 minutes pushing really hard, their best chance coming from a corner, which dropped back to their CB who shot low forcing a reflex save from our Gk’s foot. Was proud of the boys to able to hold on with 7 players backing up from ressies, there were sure some tired legs towards the end.

We were unfortunately short players yesterday for res grade and couldn't offer anyone up to centre, we did provide linesman though. My understanding is usually teams don't like 1 club to run ref and both linesman for fear of bias against the visiting team. in all my years of playing football the teams usually offer up a lineman each to even that up. I know when we have played away this season we have happily offered up players to be linesman even though we weren't the home team, like we did last week in stockton, and we sure didn't didn't bitch and moan about it, we just mutually agreed to do it for the good of the game as it's best to have amateur linesman than none at all. As for Saturday, we asked your manager what he was happy with based on the situation at hand and he volunteered to ref the res grade game, and got paid for it too I might add. He didn't seem annoyed or angry about it, in fact the game was played in good spirits without complaint so i'm surprised at this post game outcry, and I suspect the person whinging is a mere spectator, not a player. I think the players understand this ref situation is shite and are just dealing with it. In future home games we will ensure we have refs and linesman sorted as a back up, as we have done for the other home games this season. It will be interesting if we get an outcry of bias from a club running all 3 officials in the event of a close win to the home team or a contentious decision...
As for the ref not running the game for 90 mins, that is shite and we were just as annoyed at that as Bero. We told him that it was 45 mins for a half and he inexplicably pulled it up short in the first half, meaning the 2nd half had to also be short to match the length of the 1st. That is something that can be easily fixed and is a 1 off. No idea why he did that.
Beers on the sideline: A few res grade players had 1 or 2 beers after the game which seemed pretty harmless at the time, no one was drunk or disorderly, but granted it shouldn't take place near the technical area so we won't let that happen again. the old lady was a players mum who was down for mothers day and wandered over to say hello, again it was harmless but shouldn't have happened. A 1 off.
The thing to remember is all these other teams in ZL3 are the highest squads in their respective clubs, so you likely have the support staff to go with that. Cookers have a successful ZPL squad so our ZL3 team is effectively our 4th and 5th grade teams and therefore games are manned and run only by the players, which can occasionally be an issue if we are short players on game day. It's just the reality of a 6th division comp really.
In terms of the on field stuff, the games were hard fought and well competed in both grades and we enjoyed the hit out against the new guys. We look forward to playing the return leg in what we can now only assume based on the dissatisfaction with the cookers amenities, is a state of the art football facility at bero, complimented with a plethora of eager support staff on hand to ensure the day is run like a well lubricated machine.

so i don't know what to think anymore tbh. many yellows & reds, and thousands of fouls, i've seen in my day would not have been given had we been going off bobby's rules (and, it seems, the ref you had on the weekend was either going off these "new rules" or he thought it wasn't from behind & contact was made with the ball first - i'm not sure). when refs say "new rules" etc, is there an actual rulebook where they can clarify what they're talking about, which us mindless players can scan over? i remember when they brought in the rule that players had to stand yay far away from someone throwing it in, my club at the time was notified & they broadcasted the information to our players. the same happened with the sock tape thing this year. was the same notification given for this "new rule" of tackling from behind?
Haha isn't that ridiculous hey! My thoughts exactly imagine if someone studs up from behind then got ball. It is a grey area I agree but this particular incident is also in the box whereby any player who makes contact with the attacker has then committed a foul. Not only was there contact in this instance but also the contact was made from behind. I agree that the player was coming in from the side but the attacker was closer to goal than the defender and in a last ditch effort slid in and collected both ball and legs. In the letter of the law that defender has made contact in the box thereby a foul should be given. It's hard to explain and I sound like I'm talking shit I know so I apologise. It just made matters so much worse when he then gave a free kick to dungog we were all like what the ****??? Also the bloke didn't have a clue and couldn't explain a single decision after the game. Anyways we didn't deserve to win at all I just would have liked an explanation haha.Quote:
