My feedback;
Quote:
The atmosphere at the moment in the ground is non existent. I don't believe this is due to results alone as the club has been in a similar position for the last 4-5 years.
Whether the club likes it or not, there is large resentment towards the club (especially the coach) over the way the removal of senior players was handled and his puzzling tactical choices during games. People are sick of excuses like;
- The squad is small and fatigued (the coach made the decision to remove 5 senior players and Flores)
- The squad isn't good enough (see above, they were experienced players)
- I didn't pick the squad (this is a cop out)
At the end of the day there is 10,000+ current members and close to 50% are no turning up to sit in seats they have already paid for. The club needs to look within and ask why. Do you expect these people will suddenly turn around and buy another membership next year?
My family will be back next year, we love football and we love the Jets, but if you get out and talk to the membership base, the current results are only a minor contributor to the crowd/atmosphere drop. There is a massive disconnect between the current coach and fans and it is driving people away. There is a large apathy towards the club that began with the "clean out". This widening chasm between the club and fans needs to be repaired if the club wants to come even close to breaking 10,000 members next season.
First and foremost the club needs to look at how to retain these existing members. Free tickets and the like are not the solution. Results may help, but when the coach said the club needed a culture change, he wasn't wrong, but he is very much a part of the culture that is driving people in droves from the games.
I'm not sure how long the club can stick its head in the sand, but there longer it goes on the worse the community connection will become.
Similar to mine.
I included in my feedback about the highlight of the match: The Squadrons stubbins out banners.
Thanks for the support.
I am actually starting to get a little peeved like I am fighting a one man battle.
Would be great to see a pile of other people get into the equation and fill the stadium with banners in the next 2 games stating their disgust at the way the club has been run.
i hate to say it, but we have definitely improved in recent weeks
still he's done nowhere near enough to warrant remaining in charge
^ recent weeks being the last two?
We were woeful against City, maybe even worse than the 7-0 loss.
If Western Sydney played their first team they would have creamed us
This is exactly what I hammered home in the Jerkstream podcast. We beat what was pretty much a youth side - and their youth side came second last in the NYL season!
IMO we only looked good v WSW because Alivodic and Hoole ran riot against Gallaway (no explanation necessary) and Alessi (who, poor kid, got destroyed by Hoole and was hooked before half time).
Just went on All Sport Show Podcast to talk about jets. Discussion around Perth game and how Perth might get wooden spoon. I managed to slip in its just another thing Stubbins can't win. Thought it was missed but no they picked up on it!
Serious question. When did you lose faith in stubbins? Was it a particular match? Event? Do you still have faith in him?
For me I thought we started the season ok. We were unlucky round 1 v Mariners and played some ok football early on. For me it was the capitulation against Wellington when we conceded 3 in 7 minutes that did me.
The problems started when the Johnny Steele Affair came to light - something seemed wrong in the background.
IIRC my thoughts on Stubbins went like this:
- gave him a lot of credit for Adelaide's ACL success, mostly because Adelaide fans raved about him so much.
- didn't take a heap of notice of him in Thailand, but was happy enough with his appointment and chose to be content, but fence-sit, on how I judged him at the Jerks.
- quite liked the squad list that was put together at the start of the season, even had optimism on Montano and particularly Steele.
- didn't mind we lost the FFA Cup game. Thought it'd take time for his team to gel, I think from memory Montano wasn't there yet, Flores was still injured and I think he was playing Jeronimo out wide too. Figured things would sort out over time.
- talked to Craig Goodwin's uncle (or maybe it was second cousin, can't remember) about Craig leaving, and I started to have doubts over Stubbins and his methods.
- was bored to death in the Coast away game. Had no faith whatsoever in Stubbins that he'd start Taylor Regan in centre mid.
- typical Jerks for the Wellington and Perth away games, I refuse to even get slightly optimistic about those games in any context.
- the game that I completely, without doubt, lost faith in Stubbins was the Brisbane 4-0 loss at home. That was (at the time) the most boring, deflating home game I've witnessed from the club.
- it's all been downhill for Stubbins since then.
- the player sackings only furthered my discontent (and hatred) for him.
- Every game hurt to watch, the one that hurt the most was the home game v City when Koren ran riot. That game was to me as bad as the Roar game.
- I still to this day haven't watched the 7-0 loss, I can't bring myself to.
Love Newy, Hate Stubbins.
the day flores tweeted that he wasn't injured and the coach wasn't selecting him.
most technically gifted player in the squad not getting a run is ****ing ridiculous
Funny I am not 100% certain on this but I can clearly tell you when my faith in GVE departed. I was actually pretty much late to the party on him and gave him far too much latitude.
The first season we had Heskey late on in the season was sitting at Sydney Airport waiting for my flight to Adelaide. Checked the Newy Herald website whilst waiting at the gate and there was an announcement that Michael Bridges had been resigned by the club. To me it showed me a complete lack of ambition from the club. We had Taggz and Kale as attackers on the books we also had a pile of young talent about to blossom in Chapman Beard Hoole Goodwin etc. Bright days looked like coming and our coach goes and wastes a VISA spot on this bloke 6 months before the next season starts. Basically saying lack of ambition to me to go out and find us our own Broich Hernandez Finkler Berisha etc and we will stick with a bloke who is achieving little and is not a defo starter
That was where I joined the GVE out mob
The Roar game was probably where it started for me with the Muppet. The performance was disgraceful and so flat it was not funny and his treatment of Birraz after that showed us all his man management skills.
Does say a lot that Birraz is happy to sit on the bench for a Serie B side getting relegated than sit on our bench
What body said.
3-0 down after 20 minutes V Heart at home and the Muppet did nothing but sit on his Bunnings chair till 1/2 time.... that was it for me
The left field signing of Stubbins, his first presser and his comments about how Newcastle is a fine footballing region, needs a team to be proud of and wanting to play attacking football... optimism.
Then about 30,000,000 naysayers from Adelaide told me he is shit, loves to scream at players in training, is clueless, plays favourites, loses the dressing room... shattered.
So about 10 minutes after he signed.
Wasn't the Roar game when he put Kew at RB with Welsh at CB and everyone was like WTF!!!
Half-time comes and he puts Kew in his rightful position but by then yes it was already 3-0 down. I clearly remember people leaving at half-time, was the worst most uninspiring A League game I've ever seen live.
Yep it was the worst game I saw Kew play for us, he looked so out of position at RB. Which I remember thinking was odd, in the sense that he basically only played RB in the Netherlands, according to Patrick Zwaansvijk.
I left around 10 minutes early in that game, there was the QOTSA/NIN gig on that night. Parksey will confirm.
Yeah great gig
Member, I am going to have something for you to work with over the weekend. Can take it to PM if you prefer to not spoil the surprise...
Send it by PM then.
At this stage have nothing in the works for next weekend :rof:
What sort of a coach at this level notifies players via SMS that they are/are not in the playing squad on match day!!!
Yep this has happened this season....oh but there are some that will say that Griffo, Kew and co. were sacked because they were troublemakers, trying to undermine the coach. As the days turn into weeks and the weeks turn into months since the sackings it is becoming more and more apparent that Griffo, Kew and co. were frustrated along with the rest of the players at the total lack of, how would you put it....coaching nous on all aspects.....from a rookie who was well out of his depth at this level. It's apparent that he likes "yes men", once you question his methods or ways....you are gone!!! This is his plan for "moving forward", the way he is "planting the seeds for the future" so that he wants players to not question him or his methods because that undermines and exposes his failings as a coach. From the players who are still left if I could ask them two questions it would be....1) Under coach Stubbins this season how would you rate your development as a footballer? 2)Do you feel he has aided your development so that you feel that you have progressed to the next level?
After all isn't that, apart from getting results, isn't that what a coach is about? It is obvious he has failed in the "results" department and I am willing to bet my house on it that not one player has benefited from his coaching in terms of development either.
That's interesting have heard the exact same thing where the Muppet was texting players the night before a match and telling them they were in out or whatever.
Seems like the type of thing to install a low morale in the squad as 23 blokes nervously await an SMS on match eve whether they are playing or in the stands
Not so bad if your Sam Gallagher as he probably got lots of good news texts
Didn't Tarek complain about GvE doing the same, or similar thing?
Nuh - he had this convo..

Then was promptly given the flick.
