What will fill you guys with confidence is Hoole absolutely destroyed&embarrassed Daniel Alessi, our most recent signing, the last time Hoole played with us.
But 5 of the assists were in the season we scored 23 goals. Add to that the 1 goal he scored, and that's a contribution to over 25% of our goals that season.
Also no player provided 5 or more assists last season, nor 5 or more assists in 2013/14. The last player to reach/exceed that in a season was Ryan Griffiths in 2012/13 with 8.
Id take him over Pav and Brennan but if he's starting every week im worried. But i will say if he resigns ill back him 100% and hope he proves all my doubts wrong as the HOFF did
So when surrounded by other high fat content turds, or the cream, will his contributions be converted at a greater rate?
I'm just playing devil's advocate here by the way. I'm on the fence with this one. I'm not too fussed either way.
I think we need to recruit better out wide and would rather more money go to, say Troisi. But our bench lacked any sort of impact last year and that needs to improve. He can certainly add to that but I don't know whether that would appeal to him at this point of his career. But, he offers more than Pav and Brennan as said above.
Remember that goal was a penalty too.
He lost it at Sydney that day in Wellington when he dived, copped it from Dura and then missed another pen. That, and the miss against Chelseas just blew his self-confidence which is something he struggles with. Looks like a deer in headlights many times.
And if you are down I think I would rather have Miller in my ear than Arnie.
Does this mean we are getting Carney his best mate back too... Jeez I hope so.
Judas ****s
Hoole to LB anyone?
Looking forward to Hawks input on Hooles return.
Geez. He's Newy. Love him. He's us. The end.
we are aiming for 8th if we re-sign shitness like Hoole...
Let's just welcome Judas and his sh1t haircut back and trudge on.
everyone deserves a second chance.
sign him up Middleby.
Jack Duncan just left his Danish team. Wouldnt mind him.
Hoole's agent spouting rubbish this morning in the Herald. A complete about face on what he has said over the last year.
A-League: Home-grown midfielder Andrew Hoole set to return to Newcastle Jets James Gardiner
June 17, 2016, 7 p.m.
NEWCASTLE Jets were a basket case when Andrew Hoole decided to leave his home-town club for the bright lights of Sydney FC .
The Jets and Sydney FC had tabled similar two-year offers in January 2015, but the off-field stability of the Sky Blues, combined with an opportunity to play under Graham Arnold and compete in the Asian Champions League made Hoole’s decision easy.
Now the 22-year-old midfielder is poised to return.
Hoole’s manager Joel Grenell confirmed on Friday that talks with the Jets were advanced.
The winger has a season to run on his contract at Sydney FC, but the Newcastle Herald understands that the Sky Blues will not stand in the way of his departure.
The Mariners have also expressed an interest but Hoole’s preference is the Jets.
“Newcastle is not appealing in that it is his home town, it is appealing in a football sense,” Grenell said. “He needs an environment where he can flourish and Sydney was not the right environment for him. If he signs with Newcastle he is going to make sure he is out of his comfort zone and pushing himself. There was a club in Denmark that wanted him over there for a trial but he wants to establish himself in Australia. To do that he needs to be playing 25-plus games a season.”
The Jets are remaining tight-lipped until a deal is finalised, which could be as early as next week.
Coach Scott Miller, who returned from Europe on Thursday, tried to lure Hoole back to Newcastle in January as part of a trade for David Carney.
The Olyroo turned down the approach, due mainly to the Sydney’s upcoming ACL campaign.
However six months on, the Jets are a far more appealing option.
The mid-season arrival of Morten Nordstrand and Steve Ugarkovic helped the Jets climb to eighth spot, one place and four points behind Sydney. As well as on-field improvement, the Jets re-established their connection with the community and business sector.
On Tuesday,Chinese billionaire Martin Lee completed the purchase of the Jets from Football Federation Australia, who had controlled the club for a year after Nathan Tinkler had his licence stripped.
Hoole, a Broadmeadow Magic product, can play on either wing or in a central role would add to a front line headed by Nordstrand, Labinot Haliti, Devante Clut and former Fulham attacker Wayne Brown, who touched down on Wednesday.
The Jets have two visa players to sign, which are likely to be in the front third.
Hoole made 15 A-League appearances for Sydney, but only six in the starting side. He appeared in five of of the Sky Blues’ eight games in the ACL, the last of which was on May 25.
W@nkers, both agent and player.
Yup. Hoole is a very good state league player but he's fringe A-league material at best given his inability to score goals and how easily he can be rattled mentally by the opposition.
If he's paid as a bench warmer then I have no probs with us giving him another chance. But if he's paid as a starter then I think the clubs making a big mistake.
So with him having 12 months left on his current contract I couldn't see him coming back for less money.
If you have been moved down pecking order at Smurfs and scrapping for game time plus Arnold has publically stated he is not planning on developing kids any more as he needs ready made players and results then it is highly likely he will come back here on less coin
2 Years in the wilderness and off contract isn't good for his career or future contact negotiations
To me he should be getting out of Smurfs ASAP to go somewhere he can play regardless of how much coin he drops this year
We fit the bill
Theres talk that hes coming for less money than he's on at syd and that it'll be a 2yr contract
Just a point on the press articles stating we have only 2 Visa spots left. With the changes to the guest player rules now for 12 months this effectively provides for an extra visa player if we want to use it.
Signing Duncan would be interesting considering we still need to sign 2 u20's. Duncan, Hoole, 2x u 20s and 2x visas is a full 23 man squad with only a guest and a mature age rookie up our sleeve
Yeah but to put it into context we were either 8th or 9th anyway when they arrived
The Gypos were definitely last and we were slipping down the ladder with our mid season capitulation and we were either behind or above only Phoenix anyway
Well I am sure you can work out when you sign someone for significantly less than you offered 12 months earlier it's good business.
But I get it, there is a good number of supporters who will death ride him no matter what. I am happy to see how he goes. If he can recapture his form from 2 seasons ago then we have made a smart capture.
All this hate is a little baffling. Hoole was never going to be signed until Ledman opened up the purse strings. For mine he is another option for Miller that we would not have had if not for the new investment. He might start, he might sit on the bench. So what, it's an option we otherwise would not have had.
Hoole isn't the finished product but he doesn't need to be. We aren't relying on him to win us games and score us goals. He needs to get his form back, contribute to the team and, hopefully, improve his game so that he can start scoring and push for a start.
What other Australian off contract should we have signed? Connor Pain (who was on contract) would have been nice but we didn't have an Austin to give up in exchange.
