People whinging about the price for Asian Cup Semi-Final tickets.
$99 for 4 games of Football was a bargain.
If you wanted to wait to see if Australia may play in Newcastle before you get a ticket then you can pay $80+ for that privilege.
^^^
Agree
Whos sitting pretty now??
Member held off on buying a Semi in Sydney ticket until he had confirmation who was playing.
Figured the 3 hour train trip there and 3 hours back would only be worthwhile if Australia were playing plus i m doing it anyway for the Final regardless of whos playing. Picked up the newy pack and now Australia look like coming to town am sitting pretty.
Disclaimer: We will probably lose on Thursday anyway so my foresight and intelligence will be not relevant anyway
Hey MFKS , I was driving into work and radio saying they may change the game back to Sydney as have the right to do so. I will be fuming if this is the case and it is a right snub to us if they do. Plus I missed the game last time Australia were in town as I was overseas.
Heard the same, but also heard Aaron Kearney say the exact opposite i.e. They are locked in. So who knows.
To be honest, while I will be disappointed if the Semi's were to be swapped between the 2 venues, I could understand the decision. 80,000 fans having the chance to see the National Team versus under 30,000, that's a big difference both in numbers and $$$. And we all know what wins out in the end.
I got Sydney and Newy packs, and have gone to every game so far at those two plus plan to go to both semis, so where the potential Socceroos semi is located doesn't bother me as to if I'll get to see it or not.
But I would love to see a packed Turton Road, with the Socceroos there. Would be amazing!
What will grind people's gears, if they do change it, is that now the Socceroos have fallen on the Newcastle Semi side of the draw, people have bought their tickets accordingly.
To move it now, the AFC may have to accept single game purchase tickets a refund. That would be at their discretion, however, but it will piss a lot of people off.
100% , we have bought our tickets in good faith and they should do likewise. No other country would do this during a major tournament and if I was the opposition I would be kicking up a stink as well . Its a sporty event and if this goes away from Newcastle for me it would be breaking a unwritten rule of sporting integrity .
Why didnt they give us the other semi to start with? a ground change wouldnt have been needed.
oh thats right Australian football inept twats
seriously, what does FFA have to do with this? This is an AFC tournament.
I would have thought that the FFA would have had a fair bit to do with it tbh. Much like how they spent the $40mil odd on the World Cup bid book, I would have assumed the FFA would have been involved in the bidding process, and the inspection to get the stadiums up to standard, helped with the scheduling, etc of the tournament.
I know the Asian Cup has a 3-4 day turnaround on group stage games (as opposed to 4-5 for World Cup), and the host nation always gets the 4 days as opposed to 3. I would have assumed this is because the host nations FA would have had a hand in scheduling, and "rigged" it this way.
What's more unbelievable is that they did nothing with the grass area, hence reducing capacity to 22000 for a semi final!!!....
See, I was always under the belief that for every Asian Cup game we were going to have temporary seating where the grass is. I have no idea where I took this belief from, but rocking up to the Japan/Palestine game and not seeing it took me by surprise.
Maybe they could make temporary seating from all the discarded glad wrap boxes
Would have made sense straight away to do the temp seats for the semi well in advance and sold more tix from the off
The other games were not necessary at all.
Cost would have been significant for no return for the Japan Palestine game and the Oman V Kuwait effort. Semi could have been cost effective 3rd and 4th a bit iffy depending on opponents anyway
Traditionally 3rd V 4th games are not that well supported.
People were buying them for the WC and tried flogging them off but were having a hard time giving them away. The game is an after thought for the losing semi finalists and the interest wanes.
Usually good spectacles but when you have the 2 semis the final in the same area it is game no 4 on the interest demand stakes by a long long long way
Being though it may well be Australia the game will be well supported then. If it ain't involving Australia I do not envisage a sell out even if it is Korea/ Japan/ Iran match up.
Sure people will go but they ain't gonna be selling tickets hand over fist for it
Why were we even given a semi? Serves them right. i want chair service as well
They fixed your glad wrap problem lads.
You done it.
Just had a terrible hamburger at the takeaway in Branxton, staleish bun, bland patty and all round crap
Irony..
Working as an hydrographer to measure flooding rivers, however am now stuck in my office because the adjacent creek has flooded bigtime..
Hoping the waters will recede enough that I'll be able to get the car out and still make it back to Newy in time for the game tonight..
