Coffs capacity...
If Cahill plays it will get its sternest test....only 936 seats and I bet few of those will be allocated to Gold Jets members who pay a large amount to not sit on a grass hill. Have booked accomodation early anticipating Cahill - but had the sense to book something that has free cancellation too.Quote:
The Stadium has a capacity for 20,000 spectators, including 936 permanent grandstand seats.
Will be interesting how this pans out - the Herald will go to town on it for sure....if it happens of course.

Fan foz announced. Got an email about an hour ago.Quote:
As you are aware it is an exciting time for Newcastle Jets with new ownership under Chairman Martin Lee and the Ledman Group. We have also recently welcomed Lawrie McKinna as Chief Executive Officer, who brings to the Club a wealth of football knowledge and experience.
Given the recent changes we would like to invite our fans to a forum where questions can be asked to a panel consisting of Lawrie McKinna (CEO), Scott Miller (Head Coach) and Nigel Boogaard (Club Captain). This will be a great opportunity for our fans to hear from leaders from the Club on a range of Newcastle Jets topics.
Date: Wednesday 27 July 2016
Venue: Event Cinemas, Kotara
Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm
RSVP: Please confirm your attendance by registering your details here.
We are also keen to receive any questions you may have for the panel prior to the Fan Forum. We will integrate as many of these questions into the evening, enabling fans that may not be able to attend a chance to be involved. Questions can be submitted up to midday on Tuesday 26 July 2016 by including them in your attendance registration.
Ahead of the Fan Forum, here are some Club elements we can advise you of ahead of time:
Club Colours – The Club’s colours for the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 Season will remain blue, red, and gold. These are the colours that feature in the Club’s crest and the Club will be seeking to maintain consistency with this.
Club Kit – Following feedback from our Members and fans and in consultation with our Members Sub-Committee, we understood the preference of our Members and fans was not to change the kit design each season. To this end the home kit design will not change for this season, however a new away kit will be launched.
Club Crest – The Newcastle Jets crest will not change for the 2016/17 Season.
Club Name – The Newcastle Jets name will not change for the 2017/17 Season.
We look forward to welcoming you to the 2016 Newcastle Jets Fan Forum.
Together We Can Soar!
Am I reading too much into the 2016/17 comments re name, colours etc?
My hunch is that Lawrie probably won't be able to provide any answer at this stage, only that he will have to inform Martin lee of the possibility that Tim Cahill will possibly be playing for City in a game scheduled to be played in a regional town that is approx only 20,000 capacity (only 1,000 seated) versus our own stadium which is 33,000 (23,000 seated). If I was Martin Lee, I would be simply asking "Why"?
I hope this happens, and I question how the previous Jets administration were able to make this decision while effectively in caretaker mode. They have basically screwed over the incoming owner and management team.
There are only a few clubs in the A-League likely to sign a big name player, City are one, so this scenario was not one that couldn't be seen to be likely to occur. FFS, if you are moving a game, move a game like Perth, Adelaide or Wellington. no big players and it would be a pain for them to get to. Don't move a club who is likely to make 1 or 2 big name signings that will bring in a crowd.
Lee wants to connect with the Newcastle Community. Keeping the big games in town is one way to do it. Unfortunately at this stage, I cant see the draw being amended.
you know, I reckon there is a chance the jets will make more money off a 20,000 crowd at coffs than 30k at newy.
Why would you want to watch the jets get pumped by the City juggernaut at hunter stadium anyway? Move this game to Wee Waa imo. Coffs Harbour is not far enough away for it
The fact that you all think the Jets HQ had a say in who would be the opponent for Coffs game is hilarious.
Hi-Five Vukabitch has been granted a release from Victory. He was afraid of the ribbing he was going to get from the hill at Magic Park in a few weeks.
In all seriousness, his son is getting a liver transplant apparently. Explains his loss in form towards the end of last season.
Hope that all goes well.
And sign with FC
Yep he has.... It's official now
Heard tonighs game V NPL select side is off.
Apparently playing in the rain is beneath us
Was watching something the other night an old Chelsea game when they had Zola and Vialli so back before they got good
Were playing in the Cup Winners Cup against some Norwegian side and a blizzard came in and covered the pitch. They played it out though
It is a glaring indictment on how soft we are getting with things being called off at the sign of less than ideal weather
Cup Winners Cup! That's old. Did Vialli do a stint as player/manager?
I guess that match had started by the time a blizzard had come across and the match was a competitive fixture. This is a trial match, to play devil's advocate.
I'm sure the leading teams aren't complaining about the decision.

When men were men
The grounds in England are well drained and often heated. Most grounds in Newcastle are built on old swampland / flood plain (including but not limited to Stade de Newy, Magic Park, Adamstown Oval, Darling St, Edden Oval, Novocastrian, Alder Park, Islington Oval ). I know that a lot has been done to improve those grounds over the years but they still don't hold up well in the winter when wet and over used.
Another HUGE problem we have is the lack of grounds generally. Our football fields are over used, poorly maintained and conducive only to poor play. The team I coach play on Islington Oval and it is rubbish. Last weekend they had their only game on Darling St and it was like watching a different side. Decent playing surfaces will lift the standard of football markedly.
Undersoil heating is for dealing with pitches being frozen rather than wet . Obviously dangerous playing on a pitch as hard as concrete as it is frozen. Not an issue in this country
Your right a lot of our sporting facilities in this country are built on swamp. . You only need to look at the plethora of drains creeks etc in the vicinity of grounds to see this.
Biggest issue here to me is a cultural thing. First hint of rain and it is off as the precious grass needs protection.
Compare that to Europe where weather 5x as bad as we have had in Newy today and they would still be playing on not only professional standard pitches but also pub league pictures right across the nation.
So even facilities with less drainage and infrastructure than a Newy NPL ground would be used without batting an eyelid.
Yet here it is off.
Hell even as a kid growing up in Newy 20-30 years ago we would play in these conditions every week if present but not now thanks to over zealous bureaucracy
I'd argue that the grass does need protection otherwise we will continue to try and teach our kids to play on crap surfaces. Fix the drainage issues and the subsoil and then the grass will more likely survive the rain and the heavy use.
I do however agree that we should play in all weather. Some of my best memories of junior football are of rain soaked matches. Let's get the grounds right then we can play in anything. Yeah, I know, who will pay for it? Council does have a significant amount in section 94 and 94a contributions stashed away. That's the start point. Then it will be down to local communities and clubs or a benefactor of some kind. It's nice to dream
Different types of grass for different environments for different times of year for different temperatures for different amounts of traffic... There are plenty of variables purely when it comes to the type of grass used and our local parks certainly aren't blessed with what is used!
So you missed the bit where I was talking about pub league fields??
How many Pub League pitches in Europe have multi million $$ pitches??
Your comparing NPL grounds win Newy with multi million $$ pitches on pub league grounds.
Care to enlighten us as to which pub league pitches are worth millions of $$ because I am at a loss
Delusional is when you can't read and then comment and make points that don't even stick with the points raised
