I haven't seen much of Garrucio to be honest so I'm assuming he is rock solid on the left side of defence.
But 45 games since 2012 for one goal ? I'm obviously missing something but don't we have a solid stock of players that can't score goals ?
I just fear he will be another one of those guys we take a punt on who doesn't deliver.
It would be nice but I know it's a stretch.
Perhaps that was the issue for the Jets we've had too many left sided players that could score like Carney and Goodwin who when they played for us couldn't defend to save their lives.
Someone like Thommo I thought did ok at LB for us and was versatile enough to be shifted around if required.
Quality left backs are pretty thin in the A-League, unless you want to go for a visa player like we did last year. Garrucio does have the ability to play further forward (he did a few times last year) but last year was his first full season of appearances. He also provided 3 assists. I rate him as a player and think he's at a stage where he'd want regular first team football. Elrich coming in would prevent that because Franjic is on the other side and won't be replaced, so he'd again be behind another player in the pecking order.
I agree we've got players who don't add goals, but I'd rather a solid defender who has the ability to run the flanks and provide assists - that's what I see as their core role in the squad.
I'd rather be critical of the goals provided from midfield. While they performed under what I would expect are minimum expectations (we got 7 goals from midfield this year), we score 1 the season before, 0 in 13/14 and 3 in 12/13. That's not enough to make you competitive.
Today's article in the Herald is interesting for squad news.
The imminent signing of Allessi is no surprise, but the signing of Joice as another u20 is interesting. Would indicate no Left Back signing given the last u20 will need to be a goalkeeper.
Is it a good idea to sign 18 year olds given very few are playing at the top level here and those that are would generally be looking to go overseas.
It's like if they work out we lose them as they seek greener pastures and if they don't work out [the usual case) we are stuck with them ?
Sorry for being so negative but as a Jets supporter my immunity was shattered a long time ago.
Adelaide have just made a statement saying Tarek has 2 years left on his contract and is not going anywhere. He is a valued member of their squad.
Is Alessi better suited for being a RB or a CB?
