Yeah but you're the bloke who rates Gypos like Wilkinson, Rogic and Ryan so your rating system is garbage and wrong.

But if someone thinks that zepplin, hendrix or beiber are sh1t, it isnt wrong (maybe a bit naive), its your opinion against theirs. You might love Bros and I will say cool even if I might not. If there is pioneer then it probs does give a bit more weight to their craft of being good even if it is only a societal influence. I think music technicality must carry some weight also. hit that perfect beat boy
Yeah I'm with that.
Especially considering of all the iconic performers of that generation (which would be a group consisting of Prince, Michael Jackson and Madonna) you would have to say Prince was by far the best technical musician, and by far the more prolific songwriter.
2 pretty big categories I'd say.
MJ was the better singer and performer, and Madonna the better marketer.
See my post above of Jascha Heifetz . There is no argument he is the greatest musician to have ever been recorded.
You could then talk about the best at a specific instrument. Dennis Brain perhaps would be regarded as the greatest horn player of all time without anyone else coming near him.
Cello - You can argue between Casals or Rostropovich - but there are a lot of people that come near enough to fool the casual observer.
Get to Piano and Guitar and it really does come down to opinions and preferences because there is not a lot of difference between a large class of players. Same as with drums or Bass...and so on.
My favourite guitarists are Townsend, Hendrix, Richards, and Malcolm Young. There are many out there better technically than this lot - but riff wise it would be hard to find anyone else to match them.
Yeah but Off the Wall is MJs best album and still killer. There's just some fantastic proper pop songs on there, but from memory he really only wrote about half of it.
I'd probably take a Michael Jackson concert in his prime over just about any live experience from that era.
Edit: but I'd also say that a Prince live even last month would be as good as it was 20 years ago and I doubt there's many other pop figures you could say that about.
Ok now I'm on a train of thought.
Alicia Keys?
Green Day?
Pearl Jam?
I'm clutching.
MJ put the D into daggy. best the that guy did was get a monkey, all class...imo
No no, what I'm saying is that take any popular musician (whether you like them or not) and compare their live performance 20 years ago to now and I think the list of people who are comparable would be real small.
MJ towards the end was nothing of his old self, Madonna doesn't even try and staples like Farnham, Billy Joel, Metallica are shadows of their former selves.
The examples I gave were ones I thought were at least consistent, and it highlighted how great Prince was live that he still blew doors every night.
Performing live and putting an album out are two different things
There are many artists who out on a great show but their work in the studio is average conversely there are many who put in great performance in a studio but cant do it live
Also comparing people 20years ago to now is a bit harsh. People have kids families partners and have different interests as they age.
Some of those performers you slate as not being as good now more than likely not have the motivation to go out night after night and conquer the world. They have done it and would rather kick back counting their millions doing other things most of the time
Also again: the point of the discussion was longevity and an ability to maintain a standard previously set.
So yes, anyone out there still touring is fair game for this discussion.
You don't have to cape up for your favourites every single time.
I mean, we do it with footballers every single time, why can't we expand the discussion?
Ok. On that note then as a live act the Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, and The Who can still pretty much destroy everyone else live. Sure they are not what they were vocally but musically they have very tight rhythm sections that most of todays bands can only dream of having.
Oh and The Jackson 5 even without MJ are still pretty awesome - again - Because they are such great musicians.
Leonard Cohen is pushing towards 80 and is still fabulous live.
Most notable of those that no longer have it is Fleetwood Mac's Peter Green. His fall from being one of the greatest guitarists on the planet to being a mere shadow of his former self is very sad indeed.
The multi million $$ paychecks available to them mean they are almost certain to partake in the touring aspect again regardless of whether their abilities and motivation is 100% like it was back in the day
Let's remember most of these people have been to the top of the mountain achieved their fame and fortune why would they want to pony up and climb the mountain again
They can sit around the pool all day checking their internet banking as the royalties keep rolling in for past work
Same as in Football you can respect SAF as he done it at high standard for years and regularly found success. Compare him to Wenger who has also been doing at a high level for years but is bludging off what he achieved 15 years ago
Doesn't make Wenger any less of a great manager
Tributes to Prince grind my gears...and people writing FB statuses about him acting like they were huge fans. On that note, Prince's music grinds my gears. Sounds like gay men music.
I saw someone put on FB about how much of a legend Prince was because he wrote Nothing Compares 2 U...**** me, like that is something to be proud of! The world would be a better place without that song! All you sad pricks driving around playing it in your car hahaha gaybos Q-Man pumping it in his headphones as he darts in and out of traffic on his pushy hahahaha love ya Q-Money but come on maaaaayyyynnn :rof:
wooft the butch out of nowhere with absolute savagery
In what mood do you have to be to pump some Prince? You blokes honestly sit around in your sheds listening to that? No wonder your neighbours think your gaybo's hahaha

This is what Prince was doing at 18 years of age. Wrote it, sang it, arranged it, produced it, and played every instrument.
Even at that age he was way ahead of the pack.
Prince was a massive Derby County fan.
Far out was that supposed to convert me!? I hope my neighbours didnt hear that or they would have thought I was a closet butt pirate! My point proven right there. Please tell me Q-Penny fangs along the bike line in his lycra with that pumping through his discman hahaha
Gazza, you and I both know that the nancy boy wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes in Derby. Apparently he was a devout Florist fan though and they welcomed him with open arms...and open bum cheeks.
We get it. People who aren't heterosexual grind your gears. The internet must be a confronting place for you. Here's hoping time travel becomes a reality soon so you can return to a time when your ideals weren't so antiquated.
what's with all the hate speech butch?
with a brother like yours , you're the last one I think would have issues with batty men
