What does that say about the clubs standards, that they dragged Bridges out of retirement and have not terminated his contract after years of mediocrity

Nicky effing Ward???????
:wtf:
Ljubo is a seasoned professional athlete. He knows what he needs to do and he does it. People were worried about his fitness last time he came to the Jets. He turned up looking like a bloke that had never been away from the game.
Ljubo + Jaliens = Grand Finals
No he trained with the squad today, Jimmy Gardiner says he is being looked at as an injury replacement
season over.
seems to be more than just training.Quote:
IN-FORM winger Nathan Burns has been ruled out of the Jets’ clash against Brisbane Roar on Friday.
In a further development, former Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory and Wellington Phoenix midfielder Nick Ward is set be added to the Jets roster as an injury replacement for Scott Neville (knee reconstruction).
Ward, who has been without a club since released by Perth at the end of last season, trained with the Jets Wednesday.
The 28-year-old playmaker will work with the squad again Thursday and, pending fitness and an approval from Football Federation Australia, could be available for road trip to Adelaide on December 29.
Burns was a late withdrawal from the Jets’ 1-0 loss to Wanderers on Saturday due to fluid in his knee.
He had a cortisone injection on Tuesday after the swelling had not subsided.
However, the club remains confident that the 25-year-old winger will be back on deck before loan deal from Incheon United expires on January 11.
Meanwhile, Emile Heskey trained on Wednesday but remains in doubt for the trip to Suncorp Stadium.

Nicky Ward is a bloody terrible footballer
You don't want to sign a player you were always happy to see in your opponents line up.
Happy to be proven wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.
Nick Ward's da best.
Am I the only one that sort of would prefer Ljubo not to be on our books?
Nicky Ward.... shit! you just have to look at the clubs he has been through and not gotten game time at to see he isnt up to standard! I dont see the point of this signing!
Nick Wardihno
Our youth team will be killing it in a couple of weeks time with guns like Ward and Caravella.
Hope to see this squashed on the head by the FFA, just like SFC when they tried to sign a striker for a left back on an injury replacement contract, its got to be like for like & a defender Ward is not.
.Quote:
Ward unsuccessfully played a trial game for the Western Sydney Wanderers during the 2013-14 pre-season.
Ward and Gibbs.
Jeez, that just fills me with confidence.
Only room for one scapegoat in this team:angry:
Update from Ljubo on FB is his on his way to newy
Seriously what the **** is going on when we are looking at hacks like Nick Ward.:banghead:
FFS the bloke has been punted from Victree/ Phoenix/Perth for not being up to the required standard at those clubs. Why in ****sname are these hacks continually getting recycled?? FFA need to step in and stop the clubs continually recycling other clubs garbage:banghead:
Put some kids in or find new players from somewhere in the world who can make a ****ing impact on the HAL and not giving blokes who can't cut it at this level a ****ing paycheck
In defence of the Ward news:
I can assure you, there are far worse players currently playing in the A-League. I thought he actually was pretty reasonable at Victory, just failed to impress at Phoenix and Perth (2nd stint).
The way I see it, we either sign someone like him who has years of A-League and professional experience, or we just play one of our current players out of position. Neither are bad options imo, but I think the former will increase the strength of our squad.
Disagree. We have Zads Beard Kanta Pepper Zenon Oxborrow and that other useless bloke who coughs up the ball most of the time and doesn't run. We have plenty of cover in this area
If we are signing anyone in this position we should be signing someone who is MUCH better than them
Unlike other players Ward is paying us. Can be the only explanation for such a sick joke.
Another Grossman?
I thought about this too, although do we really have any decent right-backs in our youth team?
Also there were already big questions asked about the lack of experience in our squad, bringing Ward in would be a good move against this criticism. He might not have had the most successful career, but he has experience, and for a short-stint that is probably more valuable than youth development.
PS Kind of playing devil's advocate here if y'all can't tell. I still get shivers down my spine when I hear anyone utter the words "Joey Gibbs".
I'm with Militiaman on this (my iPad predictive texts 'militiaman' that's ****ing awesome).
Ward wasn't that bad and I always thought he played ok against us. There are worse blokes to have hanging around the club.
Plus if he does go any good Middleby will offload him for nothing next transfer window anyway (ziiiiiiinnnnngggggg) so the haterz won't have to worry.
With him, Bridges and Heskey we are right in this 2005 title race.
Have the Herald used the 'Emergency Ward' headline yet?
If not: bags it.
Mine predicts 'plague' as well. This is cute.
viz. R Middleby, C Deans.Quote:

But seriously:
Joey Gibbs is an A-League footballer.
Marc Warren is an A-League footballer.
Liam Reddy is an A-League footballer.
JASON HOFFMAN is an A-League footballer.
Who mentioned something about standards?
he he heQuote:

I wonder if they tried to make peace with Jobe or not when looking for an injury replacement midfielder.
Makes sense to go for a local, proven player rather than a "former hack".
I still cannot get my head around this Nick Ward fiasco. If we sign him, it is an absolutely diabolical situation. As people have said, we have ridiculous cover in all of our central midfield positions, all of which are better than Ward (except maybe Bridges). If it was immediately after the transfer window had shut, I wouldn't be so perturbed with it as a possibility but given that we are TWO WEEKS from the window opening, why aren't we waiting to get someone who isn't a massive steaming pile of Bridges?
How far is Cooper off being fully fit? I would rather someone we have been trying to develop than use the position for Nick Ward.
We need a wing back as cover. Like-for-like.
How are Eags knees these days?
