and he's sure as shit closer to a striker then a fullback
The gap isn't widening at all this season.
We like to ignore our unknown signing in Brown, but highlight how much both Melbourne clubs have strengthened, despite what they've lost, or because of marquees/visa spots they haven't even signed yet. Most of the players are being recycled around the clubs, so how can the overall gap be widening?
Mariners - brought in some experienced players, but none of which are anything more than the same a-league plodders we end up with. I do expect them to be better, but I expect us to still finish higher.
Nix - Barbarouses and Finkler will help, but they've lost Sigmund, Muscat & Riera. May score a few more but let in a few more? They're notoriously inconsistent. These two signings don't automatically elevate them into finals contention.
Adelaide - just to replace what they've lost will be fantastic work on their part.
Melbourne City - replacing Mooy will take a lot, and who's to say whether the new player(s) will link up Fornaroli just as well? Who's to say he'll have another great season? They've also lost Wilkinson, Novillo, Zullo... they seem to replace like with like and it's a coin toss as to who will shine and who won't. They certainly aren't any further ahead of us this season then last.
WSW - brought in Lustica, the Uruguyan, the Japanese due, and Cornflakes. They've lost Castelen, Andreu, Alberto, Bridge, Vidosic. Same as City, are they really any stronger than last season? Possibly, but I don't expect them to make the GF this season.
Brisbane - they've lost Corona, Donachie and Henrique. Broich is another year older and even last year he looked slow and was unable to put his stamp on games. So far they've signed the world-beater that is Jacob Pepper.
Sydney - one of the few who genuinely seem stronger... but it's Sydney. They'll collapse when it matters.
Perth - I think Perth will build on last season and genuinely challenge.
Plus a big factor that will help us immensely this coming season.... Ben Williams just retired.
Can't possibly agree with that sorry. I always over estimate our chances but there is nothing that tells me we can improve on last year.
The gap is widening because all of the teams immediately around us, Gypos/Nix/SFC have all improved whilst we arguably gone backwards. I would agree that both Roar, Adelaide and Wanderers are all weakened not to our level. And all have plenty of recruitment to come where we don't.
Maybe next years recruitment will be better after a full season under new ownership, but I just don't see where we are going to improve. We are relying on a number of unproven players to suddenly become a lot better to that we can be competitive.
Put it this way, our biggest issue last season was our ability to attack and score goals. Our front 4 as it stands is so far behind all the other teams ion the comp, and this is where signing the Development Chinese player really annoys me. If we had of instead signed Castelen and a Visa striker we are after, then we start to have a starting team that threatens opposition sides.
Jamieson is off to Norway.
Not many LBs around for WSW
I think you are missing the point of the so called gap.
If the teams worse than us are improving, the gap below us is narrowing.
If the teams above us (e.g. Roar, Adelaide, Wanderers) are "all weakened" then surely that means the gap has narrowed as well.
Basically we should all shop at gap.
This wait for some news is getting a little frustrating.
Still no news on an International striker & Chinese Development.
Also quiet on the business/organisation front. With the start of financial year i was thinking we may start to hear some announcements regarding sponsorship's, players, trips to china? or any other further club plans
Any inside rumours or goss?

Varley Group has re-signed.
Have to say what are we nearly one month into the Ledman reign
Would have to be one of the most low key take overs in the history of football
Usually new owners come in and good signings are made plans are announced for future success etc
Yet we on the other hand would barely know we have new ownership, don't appear to be interested in signing quality players and just seem to be plodding along like we were in the 3-4 months before the FFA washed their hands of the club.
Been a rather disappointing period really
The warm glow and good feeling of new ownership has brought us nothing so far really

Unhappy about this. The Jets need to ditch their associations with the military, warplanes, etc to better engage the community.
On the contrary, I'm of the opinion an owner coming in with a 3-5 year business plan, not throwing cash around and making promises to all and sundry makes a pleasant change. This is a business deal and it is how you would work in many business takeovers.
I have felt all along that this would be the season to get things off the field setup properly, consolidate a reasonable team and get some stability after the salvage operation last year.
I am at peace with the new world.
i do agree, i was only thinking from an organisation side of things, whether we were going to see any new sponsors in the short term.
and also when were we looking to sign these last remaining players as the later we keep it the less time there is to settle, especially with both being foreign to the a-league.
but i do believe we are in good hands moving forward
In a month Ledman has;
* appointed a new CEO
* led an FFA delegation to China
* gained international exposure for the club (unlike we have ever received in my opinion)
* arranged a pre-season tour of China
* locked in fan forums
* signed Ivan Vujica
I don't think that is all too bad.
If people are looking at why we haven't signed any more players its surely because we have changed direction in who we are signing, and now signing the Chinese development player has put a spanner in the works. This player is likely to be expensive (min wage in CSL is around 500k) and is likely to be impacting how much we have left for a striker.
And for pure speculation, the Danish striker that we were recently linked to, Jesper Lange, has in the last few days retweeted the article and posted a goodbye message to his current club Aarhus. I would take it he is on his way to the HAL.

Any Chinese trialling at training yet?
Mckinna saying 2 chinese players will be here on trial in 2 weeks

Ben Warland is trialling, formerly of Adelaide. Thoughts? I've not seen him play
As injury replacement for Alessi, I am guessing?
Quote:
Beginning his football career at local South Australian club, Campbelltown City, Ben Warland moved to the Australian Institute of Sport in 2011 to further his development, before returning to SA and the Adelaide United Youth Team in 2014. Having represented Australia’s U17 and U20 sides, Warland is a seasoned defender considering his age, with substantial experience at a high level. Having captained the Reds’ Youth Team to National Premier League success in 2014/15, Warland is a commanding figure at the back with a sound understanding of the game.
Saw something on Twitter saying a chinese assistant has joined the team Qiang Li?
Does anyone know any more about this?
Well it's interesting nonetheless. Not sure if I was Miller how thrilled I would be about that. Former assistant at Beijing Guon though
Citeh last night (as far as I could see and subject to some midfield and front 3 rotation)

Deducing from millers comments in various media ive come up with 3 names whilst reseaching on transfermarkt. Marvin pourie, ken fagerberg and jesper lange. Obviously lange has already been mentioned in the media.
Pourie is the one id go for based on his career to date.
Really cant believe we still waiting on a striker. Has basically cost us ffa continuation.
What comments are you basing it on? That its a striker and from Scandinavia? Other than that I read we had a shortlist of 3 or 4
What club has their roster finalised 2 months out from the season?
Man United won't even have their squad ready for the 1st game of the EPL and this is a club with (relatively) unlimited resources and incredibly strong pull. It's a club that players would jump at the chance to play for, and it still takes time to put together the final pieces.
We're trying to convince someone from Europe to travel to the other side of the world to play for an underachieving club, in a relatively new competition, neither of which they've barely heard of.
