Players break contracts easily these days.
What club wants to hold a player who doesnt want to be there at all.
Paartalu kicks up a stink, asks to leave. Club can either continue to pay someone to do nothing or release them and use the money elsewhere/save it.

Maybe they are trying to work these issues out before announcing anything?

When the club is top of the table and is one of their better players, its a little more difficult than you suggest.

Even when there is no contract and the club is a shambles it can still be difficult....just ask McGlinchey

Mariners have signed Senegal forward Malick Mané, 25, on a season-long loan deal from Sweden's IFK Göteborg.

CCM signed some Senegalese (capped once for Senegal) striker that has been playing in Sweden. 25 years old.

Phoenix signed some Ajax youth product mid/defender. 22 years old.
