I don't expect his departure will free up a lot of cap space, either.

in my opinion, good for the bottom line, not good for him (footballing wise), not good for us.
was he really on the socceroos radar though?
Lee/Lawrie/Co have all stated this is the business plan regarding the Jets. Hence the fight over the buyout clause in Hoole's contract. Its a loss to the squad no doubt if he goes. Business wise though the club picked up a transfer fee from Petratos, who is arguably a better player than Nabbout, got him back anyway and now potentially pocketing a significant transfer fee for a player who was bought for peanuts.
We're being all ho-hum about this, but it's not even a done deal yet.
In the end, both the club and Andrew need to agree to the deal before it's done.
From a club perspective, I think he'll shine under Merrick. Which could mean his stocks go up further by the end of this season.
Please stay Nabbout
It actually good for us
This time last week Bert basically had two spots to fill
The Sth America 4th rate Brazillian no 10 plus the Chinese Ribery
Now with Kokko and Nabbout most likely out the door it giving him much greater flexibility in spending the cash
Considering Our Caravan Georgevski and Petratos are Jones signings this really given Bert much better chance to sign his type of players
fair points. agree about the anonymity, agree he's not a world beater, and do see the value of the transfer. I do think, however, that he was a good player, was on the improve and at the very least made a very good squad member (although I think he proved over the year that he was good enough to be in the first team).
I guess, ultimately, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. if we get burns now to replace him (or someone equally as good or better), then it is good for us.
No doubt brilliant business and we may get someone even better. I just feel for these young guys who leave a season early for promised riches. Nabbout had the chance this season to be something special.
Then again, maybe the Nabbout post Coffs was the "true" Nabbout and he had been worked out.
Definitely won't be Burns.

I am honored that it has become a contract with Sanfrecce Hiroshima which is one of the most successful clubs in Japan and I am able to play for this club.
I will try my best to contribute to the victory by doing my best for the club.
Remarks Nathan Burns will join the team from July 18 (Tue).
What about Harry Novillo. What's he up to these days?
Nabbout is always appreciative of the fans support and he also took the losses hard. Best of luck to him in the UAE if the deal goes through.
What are everyone thoughts on Harrison Sawyer coming back? For me he was a better option than Kokko, can run all day, which I think would be something in the last quarter of the match, a cheap backup option to ROD, also a Matt Simon type of player.
Carrusca, Cirio, Vidosic, Milligan all still available still as well. Hopefully 2 good foreigners are signed to fill the wide roles
Good for the club, although there looks like there's way too many zeros in that transfer figure for the Jets.
Good job Gypo and Mr Ernie.
Aren't Dunster and Jetmaster old enough to remember when you couldn't make a living playing football so people did it for love of the game?
Loyalty is dead and football is nothing about money any more. That's why I am of the opinion that 650k for a bloke who had 5 or 6 good games, 10 or so okay games and a heap of anonymous leftovers is amazing business.
Negative. Rumour was he was signed on the weekend and was meant to be announced on Monday but it went strangely quiet.
They just announced a young midfielder, and have said they will announced a second signing at 330 this arvo. This arvo surely will be Bridge and/or Chris Herd (whom is trialling with them).
Wrong Dunster.
What about old timey guys like Maradona and Keegan. They never moved clubs ever and it certainly wasn't to 'smaller' clubs and it was never for money.
The old timey players all played on Sunday then wrote neat letters to the awesome fans thanking them for supporting the club because back then players only played to keep the fans happy.
Surely you'd be old enough to remember those days, it was back when WSW invented football.
Cirio signed for a Spanish 3rd division club.
Milligan has had his desired move to England held up for now as there are visa issues. But as much as I love him, he's not really the type of player we are after (read: he isn't an attacker).
Carrusca I rate, and he is no longer a visa player (which is largely irrelevant to us anyway as we have 3 visa spots available) but I just don't think he fits into Merrick's high intensity, direct style game. But would be happy to be proved wrong.
Vidosic is about to become, or has just become, a father. And him and his mrs are basing themselves in Adelaide for now. He seems as grounded now as I think we will ever see him. Apparently us, WSW and MV have made initial offers for him. I don't think he is in any rush to make a decision.
I still haven't seen confirmation on whether Mitch Austin is contracted to Victory for this upcoming season so he may still be an (imo poor) option.
I've seen Ben Halloran mentioned a bit but outside of a large injured phase, he regularly played for his German second division team last year. I imagine he won't come back.
You're kidding right? Whilst I understand we are in the market for more attackers with Kokko leaving and it's been said in the media, surely we'd be keen to look at players far superior to Ugarkovic and Brown for the holding midfield role. Looking at the squad I feel we have ok quality in the front third with no depth and lots of depth with no quality in the midfield. We are still a quality 10 and 6 short of competing in this league.
And Kanta. Don't forget Ernie wants to give Kanta another crack.
Don't get me wrong I love Milligan and think he deserves a spot in any AL team. But before this Nabbout & Kokko news we were publicly after a South American #10 marquee and a Chinese player more than likely an attacker, and that's where most people seemed comfortable going into the season. The club has been pretty clear that after NTS it was all focus on the top end of the field. With Kokko leaving, it made sense we are after a striker replacement for his spot. Nabbout leaving, and we're not after a winger replacement for his spot?
Yeh remembered Kanta but put him below those two mentioned. Hence the "lots of depth but no quality" statement. In my opinion we are overlooking the midfield a little when looking at recruitment. Need to replace Nabbout but I'd be disappointed if the club wasn't looking at "Milligan" level midfielders.
Have you ever thought that 'becoming a better player' is much lower on his list that 'pay my mortgage/put food on my table'?
Don't criticise the guy because your expectations don't match his.
Also: the players don't go for the money 'now'.
They've always gone for the money.
Those stories you were told as a kid were fables.
Can you point me to when those days were so I can do some reading.
Pretty much my whole life the norm has been to go to work then get paid then if the opportunity came up to get paid more most people took it.
Not sure when that all changed but I'm genuinely interested to find out.
