Was just about to say the same thing. One of those games where not using our bench is clearly hurting us late in the game.
Played well... how the **** did we not score about 20 though?
Played well. Final ball and execution was lacking however.
Did Berisha play?
Clean sheet against the victory? I'll take it.
Fair result.
Real positive was pretty much keeping rojas and berisha out of the box all night.
****ing frustrating
Good feeling to have
We lost the plot the last 30mins though
Same shit not working
Too many Hollywood balls
Thanks to everyone who went to the game for creating a shit atmosphere that Victory couldn't play in.
I would have taken the draw at the start of the night. However, I think the Jets dominated / controlled enough of the game to the point where they deserved more than the draw.
Poijak Nordstrand Ma Lei Lei Nabbout and Hoole all looked gassed by 65th min. Does Jones make changes nope
They were great the first hour, but I'm surprised Clut didn't get a run ahead of Kokko, I thought he'd be perfect particularly in the last 20. It was clear from that point on we weren't going to score & I don't see how Kokko was going to change anything.
They should be happy with the performance but disappointed with the result.
Should have won.
As soon as Muscat put Broxham on an hooked the Gypo in midfield the Tards got to grips with the game
At this point Poljak and Stevie U lost control and we let the Victree just bypass our midfield and play an end to end game
Would love to see Stevie U played as a 10.
He looks so much better at playing forward all the time
Think Jones missed a trick or two with his subs.
Not one of them made much of a difference to what was going on out there
In fact Kokko coming on started causing an increase in hoof balls into the box
Ohh well onwards and upwards
I thought Kokko was a good change. We were buggered across the park and the game was stretching, at least kokko gave them something to aim when they hoofed it, and they had to bring Donaghie on to deal with his height.
Happier to say that we lost 2 points rather then stole 1.
Also, can't believe we didn't concede a stinker in the last 10 minutes to throw it away. I was just waiting for it happen.
I was sitting with a mate and he pointed out that Ma wasn't taking any responsibility on the ball during the second half in particular and went hiding on the field. Gotta say I thought he was on the money. That was around the 55 minute mark onwards - I think had we brought Brown on at that stage his energy could have got us over the line.
Felt surprisingly assured with the defenders yesterday. Hoff handled Rojas really well - Rojas got by him maybe once I can remember. Mullen was a good match up against Austin.
Great performance overall, I wasn't even sure that Rojas was playing until I saw him get the ball a couple times in the last 15. Berisha was invisible until the last 20 also. Great game from the CMs, dominated a more expensive and more touted midfield. Victory were really made to look pretty ordinary until the last 20 minutes. We got sapped of energy when we had 3 or 4 really hard counters/breaks midway through the second half which the players invested a lot of energy into, and I think Victory gained a foothold and some more space when we weren't able to finish those chances off. Both fullbacks had great games.
How about that article from TWG having a go at Hoole for missing an "open goal sitter", what a laugh. Weak foot half volley under heavy pressure and was close to being a superb finish. You get the feeling they had pre written an article about Hoole missing an easy chance and they just had to shoehorn in a shot to fit the narrative. On Hoole, had another great game, he's still pretty poor at being a playmaker and passer, lingers on the ball too long and doesn't take good options. But man is he good at creating something out of nothing. Back to defender he just goes around them all day. If he can work on the finishing and final ball side of things he will be a super player. And his finishing has improved this season imo. (Still lots of bad misses don't get me wrong)
I Feel like Mark Jones's use of his Subs is costing us points. Fresh legs around the 55-65th min wouldve knocked the sails fully out of victory I reckon
On the flip side we were dominant and in control of the game and everyone was playing well. I think he might have waited 5-10 minutes too long to make a sub but I don't think any change was needed at 55 minutes. Even Noddy was still going strong then
Where not seeing enough from Nobby IMO. He's not the same player we saw last year. Also notice our players dont often see the runs he makes into space so he gets frustrated and stops making them. Our players need to look left and right before they pass so their not missing overlapping runs and runs into space
So we're not seeing enough from him because our other players aren't passing it to him?
He faded a bit (as he will every game, doesn't have the legs for a full game) but for the 50-70 minutes he can play he has consistently been one of our best and most dangerous players. He links up play well, makes good runs and has great awareness. Not to mention he's our best finisher if not one of the best in the league. I thought he had another good outing last night and continues to do so. Even if we were to get another good striker or two I would be happy to keep him around, for the half hour he would come off the bench for he would be influential and dangerous.
That is every game Ma has started. He goes missing for large chunks of the game and usually ends up drifting wide.
Ma has some nice touches here and there and a great left peg but he isn't up to starting, particularly as our #10. Should be permanently left on the bench
Agreed
He was imposed on us by Lee, but it's Jones who continually picks him in the team.
The team selections and use of the bench are baffling. Mullen may have played well last night, but you can put your house on that he will cost us more games as long as he stays at RB. It happened for the Wanderers and its happened to us. Ticking time bomb.
Just on this (I agree with you by the way) -
So far this season, Jones has made 54 substitutions. only 18 of these came on or before 65 minutes, and at least 2 or 3 of these were due to injuries/babies being born.
So 67% of the subs are made too late to have any real impact IMO
A substitute after 65 minutes can have no impact? What?
I don't know the stats but I wouldn't be surprised if the professional average for substitutes was pretty similar to that, I don't think it would be unusual at all to see games with no subs until after 65 minutes that aren't injury enforced. I tend to think if someone gets subbed before that, or at half time, its either due to them having a shocker, or a change for tactical reasons, defensive or formational mismatch etc.
I'll help out a bit.
55 substitutions this year
19 of those played <10 minutes
10 of those played <5 minutes
