so we could be shafted from the cup?
we are now only 5 points off last place.
so much for the great start to the season.
disc-race.
Just goes to show what an exciting and even comp the FFA have created!

I thought he was just informing us the gap between us and the team on the Gypo Coast
Good to see the club moving on Jan signings. Getting them here in December apparently. My confusion comes with us waiting until Jan so that we can sign contracted players, how then can the player be training with us in Dec if they aren't a free agent?
For arguments sake
Let's just say they were playing in China USA Japan etc
Places whose club football don't follow the Euro Calender etc
These leagues are either finished or finishing up
Some of them may still technically under contract to say Jan 1st but not staying at their current club after that
So they might be able to get an agreement in place where they get permission to train here before Jan 1 etc
99% of players we sign have probably been 'let go' from other clubs. I can't imagine us outbidding other teams often, or offering something good enough for a player to jump ship from a team that still wants them. The only recent example seems to be Roy - that hardly counts, who wouldn't jump at the chance to leave the scum?

For the right price I'd be happy to take him as cover for Vargas.
Cahill leaving, as well as Brandan. That means McCormack will be able to be retained, yeah?
I could see Tim at WSW. He'd link with a former Socceroos Assistant, who has could have an issue with the main striker at the club. The relationship between Gombau and Riera appears a bit frosty at the moment.
Tom Smithies interestingly posted the UAE transfer window opens next week.
Cahill was not a marquee at City this year.
City's two marquees are: Bruno Fornaroli (with McCormack as injury replacement), and Mardin Budzinski (the number 27 from the weekend that didn't do much).
So McCormack staying still relies on Forn + Budz.. Cahill leaving changes nothing.
Cahill frontloaded his contract to the enth degree so was marquee last year but salary cap player this year. Which it's hard not to be skeptical and judge his leaving now a little bit more. He has a hell of an agent.
Question for the experts here. If a player signs for three years as a marquee. Do they need to be the marquee for the entire contract or just the first year ?
I'd hope it's for the entire duration of the contract, otherwise it's a rort of epic proportions.
They can be front or back loaded.
Cahill's contract was 2 years + an option. First year marquee, second year (this current season) cap player, third i think coaching etc.
Hahmez Troisi, on the other end of the stick, has back loaded his current Victory contract so is cap player this year, marquee next.
Sydney FC once notably front loaded Nick Carle's contract, and he went on loan to somewhere west on a loan during it too.
Sydney's Polish player is under the cap. Which makes City's Polish marquee even more ridiculous to be marquee, when you compare their respective CV's.
Joe Champness, currently with us, recently signed a 3 year deal which sees him continue as a Scholarship Player for this season but become a regular cap player for the next two.
Perth Glory once realised with bonuses etc that they were projecting to accidentally go over the salary cap so instantly moved Thwaite & Marinkovic to marquee spots so they wouldn't rort the cap (which they eventually did anyway).
Clever agents all round.
Thanks PV4 - it's a lot worse than I thought then.
It's not the agents that are clever it's the FFA enabling a system which benefits the clubs with the most money to innovate around the salary cap.
Much the same as the ATO does for the wealthiest citizens as opposed to everyone else come tax time.
