3-1
Jesmond held on well, Stags had a lot of possession just couldn't break down their defence (missing our best ST, but that's no excuse). Toronto had plenty of chances in the final quarter, just couldn't convert. Good Luck to Jesmond next round, some good players in that team.
Jaffas 8-2
Olympic 5-0
I honestly think that it's being played far too early in the year. As some have said, most Zone league teams have only been training for about a month. This makes it very difficult for these teams to be competitive against not only better but also much fitter players. Also add the cricket season to this when games are for some reason played on a Saturday. NPL players may not be as committed to cricket as say a ZL2 player would be, if put in the same position.
Once the Zone teams are match fit, I think the scores would be much closer.
Hunter Simba 7-3 Kurri I heard
Mayfield 5 v Charlestown 0
And Valentine 3-0 after 15mins v Dudley
Happy with our win v Toronto. 3-0 up then it perhaps showed how early in our pre season we are as we got ran over the top of in the last 30 minutes. We've probably only had half dozen full sessions and one trial so lads were doing it tough. Late on our gk got rounded but their striker forgot to shoot then we conceded a pen which the entire lead up was disappointing from our perspective. 3-1 probably a fair result. Apparently an up and coming female ref who I thought was very good.
Good setup out there and was run like clockwork. Well done all involved. Good to play on a true pitch rather than the goat tracks we usually play on. My only negative in the setup is the awkward proximity of grandstands. Whoever planned them needs a clip.
We'll probably draw someone out of our depth but will take it for what it is, an opportunity to test ourselves that we otherwise wouldn't have had.
Goof luck Toronto in your comp.
Valentine 10 Dudley 1
anyone have a full list of scores from the weekend
Went out and watched Olympic Vs. Suns on Saturday. Suns where very competitive in the first half and Olympic found it very difficult to break them down. Second half Suns ill discipline in the form of silly fouls and defensive errors cost them and Olympic ran away with the game from there. I'm not sure if Olympic are expecting many players back from injury, but just from my observation I believe the only established first graders that where missing where one of the Swan boys and Bailey. Olympic wasn't convincing at all and looked like there attack was very dis-jointed. This could be put down to a number of new signings in the front third just waiting to gel and the very young squad they had out, which they may reap the benefits of in the future. Early signs that i took away from the game is that Olympic have a good young squad, that i believe may start off slowly, but if they can get some confidence in the young boys and instil a good culture, they may finish the year strongly. I realise that it is still relatively early in the pre-season but its just what i took away from the game.
When's the next round of these matches on?
Love the FFA Cup draw. Get the road runs in Jesmond. Good squad.
The Great surface of speerspoint northern headquarters has taken another victim, Alex Kantarovksi from magic is now out for the season with an ACL injury.
thats a big shoe to fill for magic.
Good luck Kanta . hope you have a speedy and full recovery...
as for the the pitch havent been on it (living over here).. but i have had my fair share of various synthetic pitch surfaces... some are soft and do feel quite real to grass for most of the time.. but others like the one i played on last weekend in Basel (just next to fc basel stadium, whata complex) was a very hard under foot surface... for gk a nightmare... alot of people pulled up for training very sore...
But hey thats another discussion re pitches....
on other cup news tomorrow aarau of to sion (4 hour bus ride in switzerland woo haha)
Home of football - who are they kidding.
I know from an extremely reliable source that the specs for the surface at speers is NOT what the suppliers recommended.
In their wisdom NNSW decided their own specs and the suppliers took the money ....lots of our money.
Add the disgraceful design of the stands to the issues too.
It could of and should be so much better.
These issues of injuries were forecast.
So nobody ever does an ACL on normal grass do they? As for the statistics are you going to share your sources this time?
Round 3 out yet ?
I heard Luke Walker out for year with ACL. he injured himself on real grass
That's a real shame for all the guys who did their ACL. Hopefully they have a quick and easy recovery and are back to it soon.
Some good match ups for the next round, with south Cardiff received the bye, surely it's rigged
Does anyone know a) when the next round is pencilled in for b) when the teams are to be drawn and c) when the fixtures will be announced with times etc. Got blokes with cricket commitments as I'm sure many clubs would......
You guys got Mayfield

West Wallsend 3-2 Singleton
This coming weekend should be interesting with all NPL squads going head to head.As they are the first meaningful games we should now be able to start sorting the wheat from the chaff so to speak. Can't wait.
Obviously one needs to choose their words more carefully when posting as some people are just a tad too precious or delicate.I meant meaningful in the context of a contest.CCB winning 15/0 or Edgy winning 12/0 etc doesn't relate to a meaningful contest in relation to the standard of the opposition not the importance of the tie. This week will allow teams to gauge where they're at.Trial games are what they are,a way for coaches to evaluate & conditioning.Wouldn't worry too much about said trial, think CCB will finish above Olympic without a problem. My opinion only so don't start getting worked up ok!
You need to calm down & analyse before you criticise.Reread my previous post & jump down off that high horse you're on.You are obviously associated with one of the teams that were towelled up & therefore your post reeks of sour grapes. All I'm doing is calling a spade a spade not a shovel. My opinion nothing more.As I said reread my previous post.
It's a little amusing/embarrassing how you seek calm, then go of on a rant.
I'm on no high horse and no sour grapes from me either. You're right I do play for one of the said clubs that were beaten in the earlier rounds, however we were not "towelled up" as you put it we were beaten 3-0 in a good contest.
Let me put a question to you. If you're struggling CCB make it to the round of 32 in the FFA cup and get "towelled up" by say Melbourne Victory 8-0 would that be seen as "meaningful" game?
Seen as though you are quick to give out advice I'll return the favor for you. Instead of looking down your nose on the non NPL clubs maybe try accept the competition for what it is and show a little respect to all parties involved.
You can try to defend your statement all you want claiming that you were talking about a contest between 2 clubs, however it won't wash. Your comments where intended to say that everything before this round was non meaningful and that's the your comment has been seen.
As previously stated it would be meaningful in context of being a round of the cup,for Victory they would see it as a means to an end,for CCB it would be thought of as possibly a bridge too far & treat it accordingly.I'm happy your team was competitive & congrats for that, unfortunately not many Zone teams were.It is what it is,you're passionate about your club & comp, great but the post wasn't meant to deride other teams & comps it was the Cup in relation to NPL teams.P.S. Can't see CCB getting to Quarter Final really!
