All depends who is available, and who is willing to come to the Jets at the end of the day
If Birraz goes we should get Ochoa
Well lads, after today it is now apparent that the Jan transfer window is not about bolstering our squad in order to make a run for the semis....forget about that now. It is to avoid the dreaded spoon again. We are clearly in a battle now along with the Gypos and Glory for the the spoon. The other 7 will teams will be fighting it out for the top 6.
I'd spend the entire $425k on a playmaker with scoring ability. Get that and it will take a lot of pressure of the rest of the team as we will have more options and hopefully the ability to hold / pass the ball.
Wanting three or more players as Miller has suggested only demonstrates he's now a headless chook running around the paddock.
and they said we can fix your squad

Think we need to have a serious look at Anthony Caceres. Yesterday again highlighted the need for a playmaker that will unlock defences. We look horseshit in our final third. Noted in a SMH article other potential Aussies abroad struggling for game time other then the obvious Taggart was Troisi and Brillante.
Troisi has been linked with Sydney and Melbourne teams. I could see him coming in as an injury replacement for Valeri.
Brillante and Troisi would be excellent signings for our team, however. It would be more of a sign of intent. Taggart obviously would too but I don't see him coming back with a new Fulham manager and having been recalled from loan.
He actually needs some assistance period
Our wingers are far too wide of him.
Our midfield is far too deep from him.
95% of the time he gets the ball who is he playing it to anyway??
He ain't quick he ain't the greatest at holding the ball up.
Big question really is why did Millertime spend months looking for a striker and sign a bloke like him which completely goes against the style of play he is inflicting upon us with his cowardly tactics??
Brain dead stupid if you ask me
Why he persists on leaving the bloke isolated and frustrated all game and then has the nerve to hook him and bag him for failing when he is offered little support from his teammates defies belief
Halilti's injury has affected us much more than it would first appear. I reckon he would have made a massive difference to our team at the moment. Either up top, out wide but with more pace or beside Milos working hard to help him out. I think Kitto is trying to do the same thing but isn't ready yet.
I wouldn't mind seeing Nick Kalmar and Caceres show up. I also saw somewhere we were looking at Naumoff aren't we?
Taggart wasn't recalled, Dundee cancelled his and some others loans. I don't think he has much of a chance at Fulham this year, too far off the pace and it's too late in the year to get match-fit for them. We could have a chance of having him for the end of our season. Get him fit for next year.

Melbourne City’s David Williams pulls out of Adelaide United swap deal
January 4, 2016
David Davutovic
MELBOURNE City’s swap deal with Adelaide United that would have secured defender Osama Malik is off, with David Williams pulling the pin on the deal.
Williams rejected an 18-month deal from United and now looks set to join struggling Newcastle Jets, who are desperate for attacking reinforcements.
City could make the first signing of the A-League January transfer window, which opens on Tuesday, with keeper Dean Bouzanis set to be unveiled.
Bouzanis is expected to sit on the bench against former club Western Sydney on Saturday at AAMI Park, with Tando Velaphi set to join a Japanese J-League club.
While City is keen to offload Williams and free up salary cap space, Adelaide was only prepared to release Malik if they secured a player in return.
Malik, who has been on the Socceroos radar, remains part of coach Guillermo Amor’s plans as United aim to qualify for the 2016 Asian Champions League.
Former Tottenham and Croatia attacker Niko Kranjcar, 31, is one of many overseas stars available to A-League clubs.
Kranjcar is on the outer at Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kiev after playing 22 games and scoring twice on loan to QPR in the Premier league last season.
Hamburg striker Ivica Olic, who’s scored 20 goals in 104 games for Croatia, is available.
Ronaldinho’s name has been floated to A-League clubs but there appears to be conjecture about his availability and his huge wage demands.
Greek international Giorgios Samaras is available and holds an Australian passport.
Irish striker Andy Keogh, whose contract was central to last season’s salary cap scandal, could make his Perth Glory return in Saturday’s clash with Adelaide United.
Glory officials will hold talks with one of their current visa players, believed to be Dutchman Guyon Fernandez, about paying out his contract to free up a spot.
Despite struggling both Central Coast and Newcastle could be losing key players, with gun attacker Anthony Caceres subject to offers from overseas and rival A-League clubs, while David Carney is on the verge of receiving an offer from the Middle East.
The availability of Socceroo James Troisi is subject to him being released by his Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, while Fulham is seeking compensation for Olyroos striker Adam Taggart.
Jeez, wouldn't mind Kranjcar.
Replace Carney with Williams... Double Win!
Olic would be better than Kranjcar for me. Can put it in the net efficiently and would do well against HAL defenses. Would be on a lot less money than Kranjcar as well who was on QPR money not long ago.
Could we steal any of Perfs Visa Players? I haven't seen much of Fernandez, is he on Marquee money?
I would be content with David Williams. He has A-League experience and brings speed to our front line. In addition, a bit of experience as well. I'd be happier with him coming on instead of, say, Pavicevic.
I expect an 18 month deal as well.
Rumours I have read is Connor Pain looking to get out of MV for first team football. Has more pace than our entire squad combined.
Would be underwhelming and under deliver so perfect for us.
Agree mate, would have Williams in a heartbeat over the likes of Caceres or Kalmar. Over the years whether it was Fury or City he has scored some solo goals or belters that not many other players in the A League could match. Has never really settled in at Melbourne City, maybe a change in Newy could do him good. I would rate him as an above average player, Kalmar is just another squad player while Caceres is another young player who has shown some good potential...but we have enough of those already in the squad.
If we have $420k to play with, there is no excuse if we cannot entice Williams here....plus we've got the lifestyle and the beaches:wink:
There is also some talk of us chasing Corey Brown from Brizzy to replace Leaky G. Happier to hear that we are chasing the likes of Williams and Pain and Brown, would love us to try and get someone like Clut from Brisbane as well. But we will probably re sign Allan Welsh
Pain is on a minimal wage, would come cheap.
Think you are right member, anyway with the limited resources we have available in the Jan window spending some of it on a LB or any defender would be a total waste of money, which we can ill afford to do. We have decent enough defensive stocks both in the squad and the Youth to cover any losses.
We need to spend $$$ in the front third or else we will be collecting our second spoon in two seasons....hope that's the last I here Brown or any defenders name mentioned again on this thread FFS!!!
Newcastle Jets set to bolster playing roster
By JAMES GARDINER
Jan. 5, 2016, 4:40 p.m.
LONG-TERM: CEO David Eland insists the Jets are not after a quick fix.
CHIEF executive David Eland expects the Jets to have at least one new face in the squad for the next home game against Wellington.
The sale of Lee Ki-je to Ulsan Hyundai and on-going knee issues with Leonardo has stretched an already thin squad.
The A-League transfer window opened on Tuesday.
“We will be making some announcements in the next couple of days,” Eland said.
“The transfer of Lee Ki-je has enabled the club to take advantage of some of the salary-cap concessions that weren’t available before.
“The level of commitment is there from the FFA. Now we just have to find the right players. We are rebuilding the club and are looking for players to contribute beyond this season.”
Fingers crossed the player in question is David Williams. He is more renowned as a wide player but I have seen him play as a striker for City/Heart.
Pain wouldn't be available for 3 weeks as he is away with the Olyroos, don't think we can afford to wait and anyway I don't think he is a big impact player like Williams.
I wouldn't knock Pain as a player.
Watched him play Yoof a few years ago for the Tards and he was killing it.
Got a look into the HAL side and then has had scraps with Tards buying name players and not giving him a fair run.
I am sure we would cripple the kids career being we are shit and all but their is no reason why he couldn't become a very good player in the HAL if given the opportunity
im suss on him. Bloke has little arms, like a carney.
no wonder he never takes throwins.
no thanks Middleby.
Seriously some people have NFI, have seen it twice in the last week or so people on The Herald's website calling for the club to bring back Bridges

We tried that experiment it didn't produce a positive result.
^^^
Yeah agree with the comments about Pain, no doubting he has potential but he won't be available for another 4 games if we sign him....we need someone now.
Is he in the same class as a MacLaren for Roar or Ferreira to the Gypos for example who is going to come into our side and make a difference....doubt it very much.
We have enough squaddies, we need game-breakers.
Williams is a solid A-League player. He's not the most consistent striker / forward in the game but at least he is a known quantity. If he does come to the Jets I hope they don't continue the trend and pay him overs or offer him a long contract. Unfortunately, with the club needing goals I can see Williams manager exploiting it [and so he should] and the Jets once again paying way too much.
