Embarrassing decision
So the Premiers in every grade across all 3 zones are now disadvantaged by playing Major Semis mid week in front of smaller crowds and reduced revenue. Add in player availability compared to a weekend fixture.
Meanwhile teams 2-5 play in the best time frames on weekends in the sun with larger crowds etc.
Why wasnt one of their original plans of removing 5th place from the finals not implemented instead of this nonsense.
One of the strangest decisions from NF in recent memory. The decision was made a couple of weeks back regarding the rescheduling of the Finals series, clubs were made aware of these changes and now bang just because of the potential for rain today the whole Finals series is turned on it's head and many club's preparations have been put in total disarray.
What a debacle!
Singing a victory song and anonymously calling a bloke a coward aren?t even in the same ball park.
If it flogs down tonight as forecast the association will look brilliant, and if it doesn?t they?ll look like they overreacted.
They made a call. Right or wrong at least they?re trying to be proactive vs reactive, which has to be a good thing
Great I just arrived at Meyer Park to find out there’s no games on… checked a Suns post 2 days ago that said they were playing….. won’t see me attend another finals game.
Hahaha.
You really can?t be upset by those lyrics surely? If you are can I highly recommend you completely avoid any commercial radio & stick to Rhema FM to avoid any more outrage.
Also moving the game to the weekend suits Uni more than anyone. Playing midweek on a school night would be infeasible for them.
I guess like everyone else I was surprised by the move more then anything. Personally removing 5th place was never an option, There are some teams that have had their eyes on 5th place for some time. Removing them without playing would have been tough.
The Forecast for Wednesday was always looking bad. So Tuesday/Wednesday finals wouldn't have worked.
Obviously can't move all games to Tuesday night, given some teams would have Firsts and Reserves at different venues.
I would have moved all First grade games and the conference doubleheader to tonight (tuesday). At least get them played, Reserve grade could be moved to Thursday night at grounds that are fit for play after the rain.
Lucky games were called off tonight. A huge 1mm of rain fell. Would have made fields like mud.
Complete farce, hand in your resignation.
Great call from Newcastle football
So it turns out the games yesterday could have been played with no issue.
Today?s games are dubious with rain forecast to continue all day.
Three possible scenarios were on the table when the decision was made:
1. NO games playable
2. ALL games playable
3. Tuesday games playable, Wednesday not playable
Of the three, what would have been the worst outcome?
Rain has passed, perfect conditions for football tonight
LMRFF was no chance as NPL clubs kept their bookings for PYL training.
Correct if me I?m wrong but Suns, Kotara, Uni and Mayfield did not play over the weekend?
No reason at all why first grade fixtures were not played Sunday, Monday or last night when the top 5 was already known.
Hearing the suns proposed a lucrative deal to host all grand finals on the same day at Myer park however it was turned down. Any more info on this speculation?
lol what?? haha
All 3 zone league gfs on the same day on 2 fields
Where do you come up with this stuff
For the record we never asked for ZL1

Something interesting was brought to my attention yesterday. One of the more remarkable feats in recent zone league history.
The Kahibah team competing in the conference league (formerly known as 3rd grade) after an average start to the season followed by horrendous weather accumulated in quite a few catch up matches and impressively they ended the season on a 5-6 match winning streak which included playing about 5 matches in 9 days and winning them all to sneak into the finals.
Interesting that this turn in form appeared to kick in just after Kahibah 1st grade secured promotion to NPL next season. It must have been really inspiring for the Kahibah third graders having their new fm comrades able to attend matches and passionately cheer them on from the sidelines.
This is interesting, I also seen a Garden suburbs Firsr grader with a quick backup score a hatrick for their conference league team 2 days after playing first grade and they were happy to post about it on their social media. It makes you wonder this time of year just what could happen.
Just out of pure curiosity do we have the eligibility for finals outline? It makes you wonder what might happen in the finals series especially with clubs that only have teams in the finals for the lower grades?
Never let the facts get in the way of a whinge. We all know exactly what you are inferring, and you are a pathetic grub for doing so. My son plays in that team and every player that has taken the park is registered and eligible. They have even used u16 community kids at various stages because of work commitments. Nearly every one of them either played first or ressies over the last few years for Kahibah and dropped back to conference league because of work. As those senior teams have been strong for a number of years it is no surprise that when all are available they are good.
Two comments here suggesting stacking to make finals. I guess some times it happens and some times it just looks that way. Just had a look through the Suburbs conference league results and the team scored three or more in their last game and back in June (11 games ago) and a couple of times prior. So I assume that you are talking about their last game of the season when they beat Kurri 5-1. They ended the season in 6th place and two wins out of the finals, so doubt it is what you are suggesting.
