Not 100% sure but I think lustica and ugarkovic are cousins.

Good post, I think everyone agrees. Time for miller to pull his finger out.
One thing thats clear is that good recruitment is vital at the start of the year. The January transfer market works well in Europe when clubs can buy in to fix whatever problems needed.
But in the A league its a different mater. The salary cap means its hard to fix any major problems like the jets have. Clubs can only really get free agents, no decent players will get released from contracts for nothing. This is the case with Clut, why would Brisbane release him?
The other problem is that clubs cant really afford to get rid of players as it still counts against the salary cap. So a player like Leonardo that is unavailable most of the time takes up a spot and money on the roster. Therefore recruitment at the start of the season is vital.
Basically Miller has had weeks to work on bringing in players. He has one foreign spot to fill, that should have been the easy one as there would be loads of foreign free agents after the end of leagues in asia, america and sth america. Clubs in Europe would also be looking to offload players to reduce wage bill and bring in their own new players.
The Australian recruitment would have been a little more difficult. But there are many australians abroad in lower leagues, some struggling for game time.Even state league players may have done a job. Miller should have searched hard and wide and had players in now.
i love this thread solely for the hope in the voices of the people as we whilstfully type names that we think will be stupid enough to come here.
then when we end up signing Hoffman 3.0 the despair (whilst hilarious) makes me feel sad for you guys.
your hearts are in the right place, and you are good people. but make no mistake about it, this team hates you and delights in crushing your soul.
No Riise yet? Jerks...

Had his chance. Pass
Virgilli's success at state league and NYL level demonstrates just how much of a leap it is into A-league. He's a very talented footballer but unfortunately not talented enough.
He's also proof enough for me why we shouldn't be wasting our time trialling, let alone signing players without solid records at A-league level or better.
The fantasy of extracting a future A-League star from the lesser leagues may be exciting but the reality is you will waste far too much time and resources on what nearly always turns out to be a massive fail.
^^^
Virgili has some good qualities as a footballer and will probably tear up the NNSW NPL but at A League level there is just not enough "end product". This as a club has been our biggest and continues to be our biggest downfall....signing players who don't provide that cutting edge you require in the front third to basically score goals or provide assists on a consistent basis. Victory has about 4-5 of these players (Berisha, Finkler,Barbarouses etc), City has at least 3 (Novillo, Mooy, Fornaroli), Roar has 3-4 (Broich, MacLaren, Borrello etc) and so on and so on. Who have we got, maybe Carney who in half a season last year provided some regular assists and even this year is probably the only one who can knock in a quality delivery or free-kick.
Virgili unfortunately had some shit coaches in his development but you can only judge him by his performances, yes he would come cheap but he will not make one iota of difference to this side.
Virgilli certainly has rhe talent. I don't think theres any doubt over that. He probably hasnt taken his chance at A league level which is left him back at NPL Level.
I read alot of guys bagging the likes of Virgilli and NPL level players. But seriously where are the jets going to get their players???? Heard of the salary cap??? I say use the money and get a good foreigner and give a young aussie kid a go.
We had a squad of players that were youth reps across the board. We gave young aussie kids a go and our coaching sucked.
Biraz
Neville - Chapman - (Jackson) - (PlusOne)
Kanta - Beard - (Cowburn)
Hoole - Taggart - Goodwin
In my mind, this is exactly the sort of squad we should be assembling on a regular basis. It's the only way to be financially viable outside of a capital city market - recruit youngsters, fill the gaps with quality imports, sell youngsters for profit. You'll get the occasional player that never amounts to more than an average to good HAL player (Kanta may be a good example of that) and they will be your long term club heroes you aim to keep forever.
Fantasy league football. Most of those names are gone and probably wont come back. Time to move on.
Isnt Kitto a younger player that was recruited? I guess he is not everyones cup of tea.
People must remember it is the Newcastle Jets and the squad should reflect that. The squad should contain at least a third of local products.
I am not saying we should get them back. I am saying we had them and we gave young Aussie kids a go like you are suggesting. I am saying our coaching was shit and most of them have moved on to bigger and better things.
I've not seen Kitto play. I've not watched a Jets game in months and feel so much better for it.
You are never going to win a comp building an A-League team with youth rep players because too many of them don't make it to the next level or have a few good seasons and fade off into oblivion like Musalik, Sarkies, Patafta, Brown, and so on.
Worse still is that the better ones command far more than they are worth because their manager dangle the transfer fee carrot in front of the dumb as a box of rocks Jets management.
The ones you do get cheap that work out are usually gone in a season if you are lucky, then never to be seen again - leaving you with a massive gap in your roster you simply cannot fill which has a snow ball effect on the rest of the shit in your squad.
I didn't say anything about winning, just financial viability. The salary floor will guarantee we are never financially viable unless there's a big change in tv revenue.
apparently david williams is off overseas
Just read hersi travelling to central coast for trial with mariners. Too old i reckon, they can have him.
Also seen a report that phil stubbins had agreed a deal with milos ninkovic before he was axed.
Makes you wonder what could have been? He is quality.
Muppet might have been not the best coach but he did better with foreign signings then the other coaches.
Lee ki-je was one of if not the best foreigner we have had ever. Ninkovic is in the top 3 players in the league. Hard to bag muppet on that.
Apparently he had other foreigners lined up for this year.
Talent scout maybe his future.
lee was honking this season
You serious???? Not quite sure if this a joke. Is ot April 1 already??
To start with Corbo was good if you just wanted a left back to pump it up the line. Slow and low skill level. Good at hacking players. They got him from low level english football. Why didnt the jets want to keep him then?? Because corbo was crap.
Coveny did a reasonable job, but he came to the club past his best.
Brown was just a standard A league player.
Milton was great when he was here. A good fit at the time for the jets.
Song was also quality. A good signing.
Vigs was dissapointing whilst in a jets shirt. Had good pedigree but failed to deliver.
Fiorentini was just a squad player that they got from lower levels in italy. Tried hard but hardly special.
Kew was decent. No doubting that.
Heskey was quality. A good fit for the jets. Fell away in second year.
Ritter was ok, hasnt done anything since leaving the jets.
Brockie was the one name on that list that performed for more then a season. A good player.
Ali again whilst at jets was just a squad player. Has kicked on a bit since then.
Byun was a sydney reject. Jets needed a left back. He was available. Was shown the door by GVE pretty quickly for a reason.
And Denni??? He was crap. Jets won the league but then got rid of him because he was crap.
Lee Ki-je was quality. Sure he didn't perform as well this year. But last he was excellent in a poor team.
How many of those names picked up a decent transfer fee for the jets?
How many of those names performed as well if not better then Lee Ki-je
Brockie and Milton id say.
Heskey, song and kew at same level.
As for the other 9 names. Tried hard but nowhere near the quality of Lee Ki-ji. Theres a reason he has played as a south korean under age international. Imagine if he was in a good team.
If you don't understand why Corbo and Vigs made an impact then you obviously didn't watch them play.
Cameron Joice coming back to the Jets Youth for the NPL season after 2 years at the AIS, full squad to be named soon.
Your not their manager are you???? Please..... Corbo played year one, The A league has improved drastically since then. I respect Corbo as a professional, but really its like compairing a horse thats won a maiden at taree to a class 1 at randwick.
Corbo wouldnt clean Lee Ki-je's boots.
Vigs was quality, but sadly for the jets was past his best.
Obviously you were at the bar or toilet when corbo was playing? Or maybe you have just seen a highlights package on youtube.
