Hoffman’s header helps Jets to trial win over Mariners
Jason Hoffman’s 53rd minute goal helped Newcastle Jets secure a 1-0 Hyundai A-League pre-season victory over Central Coast Mariners in Orange on Sunday.
Hoffman rose highest to meet substitute Mitch Cooper’s corner shortly after half time, his header nestling in the back of the net to give the Jets a moral boosting win in the Club’s last trial match against a Hyundai A-League opponent before the start of the competition proper in October.
Central Coast enjoyed the better of the play in the first 45 --- twice Newcastle custodian Mark Birighitti was forced into outstanding saves as Mariners’ Portuguese ace Fabio Ferreira probed.
But Scott Miller’s men composed themselves at the interval and managed to produce a far more structured, polished and ultimately successful display in the second stanza.
Indeed, aside from Hoffman’s winning effort eight minutes after the game’s pause the Jets enjoyed numerous chances to put the scoreboard attendant at Wade Park to work.
Cooper struck a shot just wide in the 57th minute of play, before Enver Alivodic’s chip brought the very best out of Central Coast keeper Paul Izzo in the 64th minute.
Radovan Pavicevic nearly got his toe on a cross 15 minutes from time, while David Carney had two efforts saved by Izzo in the final ten minutes of the encounter.
Newcastle Jets Head Coach Scott Miller praised his charges for their efforts in the New South Wales Central West.
“Compliments to the players for their performances today,” Miller said. “After training yesterday morning they spent six hours on a bus to come out for the match, and that’s not an easy thing to do.”
“Definitely Central Coast had the better of the chances in the first half, and we lacked a little bit of confidence and belief in possession.
“But I asked for a reaction at half time and got it. Our ambition was to get into the game by settling as a team and relying on our structure and organisation.
“I am very happy that we’ve kept another clean sheet, and that we managed to see out the game once we took the lead.
“We could have scored a couple more had we been a bit more clinical in the final third,” Miller concluded.

it's very good to see Hoff working hard for his redemption

Notice Labi went off early.
Not good if he is injured
Battle for wooden spoon according to a CCM supporting mate who went to watch...
Also said Leonardo looked like a grub, he said "like Costa" I asked for clarification "Costa or Hutcho" and his response was "griffiths"
All hail Leonardo!
I think the Wanderers have signed Vidosic
Yup def signed Vidosic... Sad to see him go from the swiss league... (bozanic not so much ****)
Was told at start of season in july would not be needed by tholot(sion manager) but still under contract. First had a crazy transfer price on him.. Constantine (owner) what bloody mad hatter... although last 10 months has been pretty good there..... switzerland 51 games - 8 goals, fair few assists I believe
But also someone we have missed out on...
so how bad has the promotion for the new a-league season been?
i've legit not seen a thing, most casual fans probably wouldn't even know it was starting in two weeks. i guess it shows just how much the ffa rely on clubs to do the promotion via major signings and the like.
Clubs are only struggling to fund the current set up due to the fact that player payments are out of touch with the reality of income gathered.
Then you add into the equation the current situation with the PFA and FFA and the impasse they have. Reality is the players need a paycut yet they want a pay rise.
The system is ****ed until they address this issue.
To cut back on the elite junior development for players in this country is just wrong wrong wrong on so many levels
I partially agree with the member here. The players should get paid a sustainable amount that is directly linked to the amount of revenue they generate, not unlike everyone else in the country. If they're bringing in $40m for the A-League total, then the players shouldn't be paid $50m, they should be paid whatever is left after travel costs, gear, stadium expenses etc. No point being paid buckets for 2 years if you're gonna be out of a job afterwards.
dont know weather its been mentioned elsewhere but alcatel onetouch has signed on as another sponsor. pretty sure they based majorly out of the U.S but looks recent expansion to aus

Newcastle Jets today welcomed another major partner on board for the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season, with leading global smartphone and tablet brand ALCATEL ONETOUCH becoming the latest company to commit its support to the Club.
ALCALTEL ONETOUCH becomes the fourth major partner to establish a relationship with the Jets in the past three months, following the confirmation of respected brands Beechwood Homes, Inspirations Paint and the Greater Building Society to the Club’s corporate family.
As part of the significant new partnership, ALCATEL ONETOUCH branding will feature on the back of the Jets’ away jerseys throughout the eleventh season of the Hyundai A-League.
Moreover, Newcastle Jets Members and fans can expect a number of exciting ALCATEL ONETOUCH product demonstrations and fan engagement events at the club’s home matches at Hunter Stadium throughout the campaign.
Newcastle Jets Interim Chief Executive Officer, Mr David Eland, said that he feels that that the partnership between Newcastle Jets and ALCATEL ONETOUCH will prove to be mutually beneficial thanks to the beliefs and brand attributes that co-exist between the organisations.
“ALCATEL ONETOUCH is an international, multicultural company that pride themselves on being a lifestyle driven brand, and making their technologies accessible to as many people as possible,” Mr Eland said.
“ALCATEL ONETOUCH also seek to immerse their brand in activities that the broad community is passionate about, so the game of football and the Hyundai A-League certainly provides them with an avenue to engage with a diverse range of people both locally and nationally.”
“It’s exciting for us to welcome a company with operations in over 160 countries around the globe on board, and this deal definitely demonstrates the continued and growing support that we’re receiving from the corporate sector,” he said.
ALCATEL ONETOUCH Regional Managing Director, Mr Sam Skontos was excited about the opportunities a partnership with Newcastle Jets presents.
"One of the important factors is the way in which the Jets act on behalf of their community and work hard to ensure that football is accessible through low cost membership and ticket options. Having access to great entertainment at an affordable cost is something that is also part of our DNA."
"We have been very impressed with the passion with which the Newcastle FC team went about representing their team and community. We are proud to be part of the Jets family, and look forward to an exciting season ahead."
As part of the commencement of the partnership between Newcastle Jets and ALCATEL ONETOUCH, football fans have the opportunity to win a Jets 2015/16 away jersey signed by the Club’s new Serbian striker Miloš Trifunović, as well as an ALCATEL ONETOUCH PIXI 7 tablet.

Love it.
All trace of Tinkler should be wiped.
Like man utd fans forgetting anything prior to 1993
^^^
I've already ordered my new jersey online so a bit late for me to take up the offer.
Just my thoughts but I can understand many supporters probably will look at that red and blue jersey at the moment as representative of the failed Tinkler years and can understand their dislike towards it but in years to come we will still look back on that period as part of our club's history and that is why I will still keep it in the cupboard alongside the other strips I have which include the original gold, ACL and the original emerald.
Mark Jones leaves and then this comes out...

I wonder if we could see him here?
Did anyone go to the store opening on Saturday? How did it go? Get a good turnout?
Yeah I was there for about 1 1/2 hours just chatting with the players and Miller and welcoming the new ones (and the old ones back). There was a constant flow of people coming and going. Asked some of the players from last year about the comparison between this season and last season, pretty unanimous that it's like comparing chalk and cheese in every aspect .....enough said. All the players were pretty approachable and friendly, some a little more guarded than others but they are all seem determined and buying into Miller's style and philosphy.
