I would like to discuss the next Jets' ACL squad.
re-signings underway

there might still be hope for Membah that Wello will steal Boogs from us...
did anyone go on Saturday to Tomaree Sports Centre training session BTW? anything of interest to note?
happy if we kept cowbie, hoff, kosta, pato and vargas.
other ones can go, would also like to see brown and jackson moved on if possible but don't see it happening.
We can only hope Boogaard gets the arse
Can tell the bloke is a Gypo as he should be kicking doors down to get a new deal but he seems to not give two ****s where he plays next year
The question though has to be asked how Cowburn is getting a new gig??
Can understand Hoff getting a new gig as he going well but Cowburn cant get in the team let alone the ****ing bench
So why the **** do we want to sign him for ??
surely we're setting jackson up to be the replacement for topor or boogs, whichever one leaves first.
Perhaps Cowby is getting close to being in similar position to Kanta ie salary cap concession.
Just as a side note and a quick one.My young bloke said he read somewhere the Rolls might be listed in this Fridays squad ?. Is he taking the piss out of me or what ?
I reckon Merrick sees Cowburn as an option within the next season or two otherwise he wouldn't have re-signed him. Not sure what he sees in Jackson though... :D
Whether Cowburn is up for a cap concession is irrelevant
You set a standard and if he good enough he gets a new contract
If he not he doesn't
This isn't a ****ing charity
4 years and still has at no stage looked like being a starter
How long we giving him to make it ??
We been in an Abyss for years by making these type of short sighted decisions ie Resigning Kanta and BK whern they didn't deserve it and other assorted shit cunce for little valid reason
Let's not repeat past mistakes
Cowburn was on the fringe of the team before he was taken out at training by Devante Clut. He'd have played at right back or CM during the peak of the injury crisis. We were crying out for a player like him. He recovered in time to go overseas with the U23s.
He's good for a 1 year contract and I reckon we will be having a similar conversation about him next season as we have Kanta this year. The club are clearly taking the same approach as they did with Kanta.
I've seen enough of jackson at CB to believe that he is good enough. i reckon pair him with (preferably) topor for the two or three years and then when topor moves on, we've got a ready made replacement who knows how we play.
I reckon there is a lot worse than Jackson at other clubs in regards to squad position at this point in time. IMO he is a good developer to have around and as seen against that overrated Barbarousis he has a bit of a mongrel take no shit attitude about him. Very rarely gets beat in the air.
Who ever Merrick wants to keep im down with. If he keeps cowburn or boogs then ill trust Merrick 100% and the rest of us need to do the same
If keeping Cowburn on food stamps means we fill a min squad requirement and it frees up salary cap space to cash up one of our stars then get at it Middleby.
If he wants any of Joeys or Ugabooga mans money then he can **** off to Europe.
[QUOTE=Jeterpool;201361]You expect Boogs will leave? Or he will take a step back?
He won’t take a contract for much less then what we currently have him at, when the central coast and Wellington would probably happily have him and overpay for him.
I expect he’ll take off which is for the better, and we move Jackson to a permanent CB role or we get a more accomplished cb in as his replacement
By the way FFS where is Johnny K?
Middleby OUT.
[QUOTE=MFKS;201371]If that was the case we'd concede way more then we have because Topor doesnt have the pace to handle both sides of the defence. You hate and don't rate Boogs fine. Ill even admit he's ****ed up a few times this season marking and what not. But his postives far out way his negatives this season and its about time he got some praise for a good season. The bloke could have a goal line clearance in the last second of the GF and youd still slate him FFS
I expect Boogaard will take a step back, at some other team. Isn’t worth the reported wage he is currently on, and as others have stated, can’t see him sticking around for much less.
The reported negotiations with Nigel are probably a token gesture so the club can say they discussed it.
Just my view. But Jackson needs to be playing regularly next season. I’m hopeful it’s for us rather than against us.
I think you are all way off and Boogs will stay. Always discussed coming back to Newy with his family and finishing his career. I believe he cops enormous amounts of unwarranted criticism on here. I can see him signing at least a years extension.
[QUOTE=StannyCFCJET;201376]The bloke has cost us again and again in his time at the club
Even last gamr his piss poor attempt at marking nearly cost us a goal and it was through sheer luck we didnt conceed
Yeah blokes make mistakes but this bloke makes more than his fair share
Season 1 -2 of Boogaard here we conceeded shed loads
Topor here and it stops
When Topor was here before our defence was much better
When Topor went to WSW therir defence was good
Maybe the common denominator to a good defence is Topor ???
I wouldn't be against seeing him stay. But I would like to see him take a bit of a pay cut to do so - if he really does want to be back in Newy and part of a good team he should be willing to do so to allow the club to free up funds to pay blokes like Pato and Ronny.
When he came we were a shambles and had to pay massive overs to attract people to come here - now people have legitimate footballing reasons to want to be here, not just the bank balance.
If he's serious about wanting to be a part of his hometown club and make them be successful, he should be willing to lose some pay.
I'm sure I read that Brosque was willing to play for minimum wage for Sydney if it helped the club reach their goals.
Personally I just can't fathom Jackson and topor playing together on a regular basis. Two left footers in central defense is very rare on a temporary basis let alone as regular partners. In my ideal team next season we either stick with boogs as topors partner or sign a quality right sided partner for topor and make Jackson put pressure on topor and koutroumbis on whoever the rightsided centre back is.
