From what is being said Groovin the Moo played a big role in calling the game off

I have been wondering if that along with a long weekend played any part in some games being off throughout zone leagues.
Cooks Hill called out Athletics park too, that ground never gets called, especially on a mostly sunny and windy day. Any more to it i wonder?
Also, a lot of game reviews in these threads seem to suggest many teams had numbers missing. I know it has been a major issue in the past with local netball having trouble with numbers when that festival is on.
Mate you want to very careful spouting things you on here you NOTHING of, I live in town and it absolutely flogged down from 5am (up with the baby) till at least 9:30am. Only call that could have been made was to call it off. We were full strength at Cookers and filthy it was called off but no one can predict the weather. Muppets like you insinuating that we would deliberately call a game off due to players unavailable need to pull their head in. Maybe contact the club before shooting your mouth off!!!!
They used to be able to call off Rooball, or all non-a grade games or just single fields, so I don't see why they couldn't call off all age and play ZPL, even just first grade.
Imo, there needs to be an avenue that opposition teams can go down to verify that the ground is unplayable.
Whether they go and inspect or get an independent to inspect or offer an alternative ground.
If both teams are happy that it's washed out, leave it be. If unhappy, give them a pathway to follow to maintain integrity.
Not commenting on any specific incident. Just what I've seen/heard in NPL, NEWFM and ZP and zone leagues.
Settle down buddy, i was not spouting anything. It was simply a question of people missing from multiple games in multiple grades. Someone else had hinted that groovin the moo played a part in another decision (true or not, who knows?) and i was simply thinking of other games that were off throughout zone leagues.. and there weren't many to list!
And it is true that Athletics Park very rarely gets washed out am i right?
Hahaha you have lost it haven't you... shooting my mouth off? Nothing was meant of it... i think you need to go have a latte and chill out a little!
This probably works in theory but i don't know that it would in practice. I am unsure how the Barnsley situation last year panned out, as in who made the decision that it was playable and at what time. Seems strange to do that in one case and not have some kind of appeal in other cases. Do teams go and inspect opposition fields when they are called out? and if they do, what kind of pull do they have if appealing? i means it a matter of opinion and a call made at 8.30 in the morning can be difficult to judge for a 3oclock 1st grade kick off... a lot can happen in that time.
Pretty easy in practice I would think.
All clubs have the contact person for opposition teams. Quick call on a day of concern to converse about the situation. If its been pissing down and both parties don't wish to inspect the pitch call it off. If the away team wishes to inspect they arrange themselves (or appropriate committee member) to inspect together with the home team committee member. If they inspect and agree, call it off. If they inspect and cant agree, leave it in the hands of the ref.
I'll go about it in a much nicer way. Just be careful by saying statements such as "any more to it I wonder?"
Stockton was called off. I live out of town and was Sunny most of the morning. I was then sent photos from local boys with the ground ankle deep in water covering over half the pitch. We had a LOT of coastal rain. May explain why Cooks hill was also cancelled.
You can still call out single fields. The thing is, you have to make the call on grounds prior to the cut off for cancelation of games. If the fields look dicey, you have to make a call. If it dries out ofter that, not much you can do. Same when as happened last year to us, it pisses down rain after the call is made and the pitch gets trashed.
As for our grounds, I don't care what an opposition team/club thinks of the pitch. If our ground committee, independent of the ZPL, thinks it is not in the grounds best interest to play, we will call it off. A lot of clubs have pitches that are questionable at best by the middle and end of the season, so you do what you can to look after it as best as possible. You obviously have to be reasonable with it, but the grounds are used by more than just the ZPL squads and clubs also have a responsibility to other teams in looking after the pitch. An opposition team, who only have to play on the pitch once in a season, are not going to care or have a balanced view of whether a game should or should not be played and I don't think should have any call on whether a game is on.
Offering up an alternate pitch is all well and good, but then you are denying clubs a big revenue stream through the canteen and booze sales.
The ref will only call it if its dangerous to play on, a pitch can get destroyed well before you reach that point.
Ive been playing for 37 years and only had one occasion when I was 16 where a ref has called the day even though the fields are declared open.
It just comes down to whether people value a single game of football higher than the pitch they will need to play on for the remainder of the season. Being Round 3 just gone, I have no issues with clubs being conservative with their decision. I think preserving pitches at this time of the year is far more likely than any conspiracy theories about calling off games due to weakened squads.
Played a game at the Suns ground last year. All three grades playing waterpolo football across the entire field. If the ball hit the ground it would stop dead. Several players running passed the ball after it didnt go where they expected it.
Pissing down all three grades, still played them all out.
You would have thought the ref would have called this off at Nesbitt a few years ago....

suns game with Cardiff last year was called off by the ref
sat there for ages didn't say anything, watched everyone set up the ground and canteen, start the bbq, 3 grade warm up etc
